A Brown Bird Weekend!

It's been a fun few days with the Brown Bird Bee in residence at Quiltville Inn!

What a fantastic group of ladies - so eager to jump right in and get sewing, and keep sewing!

It rained pretty much non-stop yesterday, so it was a perfect day for sewing and I was ever so grateful with the confirmation that we had chosen the RIGHT day to squeeze in our Appalachian Trail hike the day before.

However, the rain didn't stop a carload of ladies from heading to Jefferson, NC to explore the town and rummage through the antique mall in search of goodies.

Can you guess what this first picture is?

It's Virginia Bound from String Fling!

Claudia, holding up a beautiful vintage basket block!

I can't wait to see what she does with it.

Two matching quilts -

One for a granddaughter, and the other for her best friend.

Grandma knows how to do it right!

Any guesses on this one?

It's the border to Moth in the Window from the Addicted to Scraps book.

She finished the quilt while I wasn't watching - and I'll get the full unveiling as we do our over-the-porch-rail photos this afternoon.

Much trimming of triangles sewn on triangle paper - and the snipping of all dog ears - always!

This is part of an Edyta Sitar mystery - coming along!

Borders for a Judy Niemeyer project.

Hand stitched bonnet girls - so sweet!

Holidays are happening here!

Fun with stripes!

Some 1930's style EPP ready to applique down.  So pretty!

I always love a good log cabin quilt -

This one is fun with the nine-patch middles.

Medallion quilt is growing round by round!

And yes, the fire is going!

We turned it on for just a little while because it really wasn't that cold out - just enough for some ambiance and to cook everyone out of the room.  LOL.

This is where I spent much of my time yesterday.

Isn't it a wonderful thing when a project you dove into by the seat of your pants starts to come together?⁣
Part 1 of our Star of Hope Sew-Along was released Monday on my blog. ⁣
You will find part one and the introduction linked under the Star of Hope Sew-Along tab.
Part 2 with these alternate blocks will release on Monday October 30th.⁣
I've also presented another variation using just the Star of David blocks if you so wish.⁣
You may also use any other alternate block or none at all - as your heart leads you.⁣
My heart is devastated with the loss of lives on both sides. I shouldn't need to state that, but the messages I've been receiving from people who obviously don't know me prove otherwise.⁣
Everything is so raw. After spending a week in Poland between Krakow, the Krakow Ghetto and all of the history that happened there, a full day in Auschwitz Birkenau, and several days in Warsaw and learning about the Warsaw Ghetto and the uprising that lead to the complete destruction of Warsaw - I feel I need to do this.⁣
After spending a few days in Rome shortly after leaving Poland I learned that an early Pope also rounded up all of the Jews and kept them in a ghetto there for over 300 years.⁣

Yes - over 300 years.

On July 14, 1555, Pope Paul IV issued his bull “Cum nimis absurdum,” which subjected the Jews under his dominion to a long list of restrictions and humiliations, most notably the requirement that the Jews of Rome live within a closed area. This became the Rome Ghetto, the mandatory home of the city’s Jews until its abolishment in 1870.
When will humankind learn to do better?⁣ I don't see that we've come that far. Keeping Palestinians for all intents and purposes imprisoned in Gaza is kind of the same thing and I have no answers. For any of it. None.

I know we all wrestle with our own differing opinions. Let's not lose our own humanity in the process.
I say this with love for all -⁣

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Yep. We've all been there! I saw this sign somewhere and it just cracked me up.
A good thing to keep in mind – always!
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

  5. You're stitching to calm your Heart! It's something we can do when we need to be in our happy place to re-set our minds. Cheaper than Therapy. Love all the fun starts and finishes to come. I need to get my moth in the Window blocks out for Leaders and enders while I finish Chilhowie. Almost Mystery time.

Have problems understanding hatred just because of who I am or where I live.

It’s one of Bonnie’s quilts. I made it but for the life of me I can’t remember its name. I’d like to make it again.

Lordy be, I am spinning the prayer wheel due to current events. Here's to fewer kidney stones and other drama in the future, and may we all keep sewing and otherwise contributing despite these (and future) current events.
