When you find yourself in the Quad Cities, you just might have this strange feeling of not knowing what state you are in at any given moment.
I’m staying in Moline, IL…but our workshops have been across the river in Davenport, Iowa. A girl should get extra credit for crossing state lines at least twice a day, don’t you think?
We’ve been really lucky to house our workshops at the Masonic Center in Davenport and they have bent over backwards to make sure that everything was perfect for us. We’ve had wonderful lunches prepared by guild members, using a great kitchen space to prepare and store all of the goodies. Coffee, ice tea and lemonade have been on tap to keep us going. The lighting is wonderful, and best of all with a class of 41 students, all women “of a certain age”…the air conditioning works WELL!
Hey, we have to have the right climate to sew in, don’t we? And sew all day we did!
Don’t you love this combo of recycled fabrics? I was so excited when I saw that she had brought all of her shirt fabrics to sew with. I know this is going to be a beautiful quilt!
The alternate blocks are done first! Fun!
All those lovely shirt plaids and stripes becoming stars!
Just look at these gals, so busy!
Loving these brights!
Twirl that chain, girl!
Each colorway is so gorgeous!
Such a great day!!
You’ll find all of the fun and inspiration in the slide show below:
The pattern for Texas Tumbleweed is found in my book MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders. Signed copies are available in the Quiltville Store.
This kind of day meets it’s perfect finish as we all gathered at Culvers for a custard sundae after cleaning up the classroom and getting things back the way they were before we descended on the Masonic Hall in a flock and made the space our own.
This kind of day, after 3 days of such goings on also required a 2 hour dead-to-the-world nap as soon as I hit my hotel room before dinner!
If I add it all together, with 40 the first day, 38 the second day, and 41 the 3rd day, that is 119 quilts in progress! WOW!
Last night’s evening walk to dinner solo.
Sometimes the ears are tired of paying attention, and the voice is tired of speaking and an evening alone without having to do either of the above is just what a girl needs. Alone time. It was a beautiful night for wandering. Look at how the sun is hitting this gorgeous old building that now holds a subway and a grill. Can you imagine it in its heyday?
I discovered this wonderful mural by walking a different route than I had before.
it was a good night for some Thai stir fry!
I remember the candy shop from the last time I visited 4 years ago!
Refresh your memory of Lagomarcino’s HERE!
Today is a double duty lecture day with an Afternoon guild meeting starting at 1:30 here in Moline, as well as an evening meeting at 7:00. I’ll be on my way home tomorrow!
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
The very things you take for granted someone else is praying for. Your life is extraordinary!
Vintage applique quilt found in Kentucky by Irene who I get to see on Sunday when I fly to Louisville! YAY!
Have a super Tuesday, everyone!
Bonnie - according to your calendar, you fly out on TUESDAY (Flag Day) not Sunday. You are welcome for TWO extra days off! Lucky you - CABIN TIME! ;) Kara
ReplyDeleteYou have sew much fun with the girls of a certain age, I hear ya. With 103 temps in the forecast, I'm in my basement as much as possible! Getting it done. Binding going on my Grand Illusion finally.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the find, Irene; would love to see more of the applique quilt.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand it must be wonderful to travel, meet wonderful people and see our great country (hey the world). But it must also be exhausting at times. I can appreciate the need for alone time, time to recharge. Thank you for all you do to spread the skill and joy of quilting. I know you have had a big influencing on my quilting and me development of skill. Thanks again!
