Pieces and Parts and Scraps, Oh My!
How I love to teach this workshop!
It is always a treat to see what other quilters bring to the table --- some had left over half square triangles they were going to work in, some had other blocks besides the houses to give purpose to orphan blocks that had been laying around or just waiting for the right project.
We had first time string piecers, which is always fun.
We had swapping of fabrics going on, loads of laughter – and as I tell everyone – if you don’t like your first star, your first heart, your first pieced letter, you are learning and you WILL like the second one. The first one teaches you what you need to do better, and there is no way around that, just get in and do it.
Make a mess and have fun!
There are two kinds of piecers ---
Some who keep it neat like this….
Or the really fun ones who go for it with gusto like this:
Ah! That’s more like it!
Dig into those bags, girls! It’s all great stuff!
Getting silly with it!
Love Shack!
Love shack is a workshop exclusive pattern, but you can make your own through the various tutorials found under the Free Patterns tab. This is a compilation of Happy Scrappy Houses, Maverick Stars, Wonky Hearts! You can still pick up a copy of Tonya Ricucci’s Word Play Quilts in Quiltville’s Book Store to learn everything you want to know about free hand piecing of words. Upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and loads of inspiration in the gallery section.

Love Shack Group One, Kerrville, TX 2015 |
Today is a repeat! A second class of new students, same quilt, same place! I look forward to seeing what this new batch of quilters will bring to our quilty day.
When the workshop is over I’m being picked up by Irene and her hubby – we have plans to go back to Fredericksburg for dinner since I didn’t get to see much of it when I was there on Sunday. I arrived for the workshop at noon, we sewed from 12:30pm to 6pm and by the time we were done I was on my way to Kerrville – so this way I get to experience a bit more of the Texas Hill Country.
From there it is back to San Antonio and Irene’s guest room. Thursday – HOME!
It’s been a wonderful Texas visit ---can’t wait to come back!
Oh creative juices flow when I see a stash of scraps, no matter the size! Everyone looked like fun was had ... By the way--- I am a messy quilter.. looks like an irate squirrel hunting nuts went through the room...but heck, I LOVE IT!

Maybe that's why I like quilting so much--a legitimate reason to make a mess!
