The three days I spent with the Gate City Quilters in Greensboro, NC was full of much Showing & Sharing!
I love it!
I love to see what you do with your own fabrics, your own color ways, your own ideas for taking one of my patterns and going off on your own tangent with it.
I love seeing how quilters will dig through their own stashes making design choices that are uniquely their own.
And of course it was extra fun that these are quilts and quitlers who live near to my home base, and we were meeting for the first – or second time!
This is Cathy’s Happily Scrappily Irish from Adventures with Leaders & Enders!
Made from 4-patches, it is a perfect Leader & Ender project and you can see hers is still growing as a top. Yes, it could be strip pieced, but you get a more random placement of fabrics when you work with 4-patches and connector units!
Same quilt – on point in BLUES!
The 1850s $1.00 Yard sale find!
Whig Rose Applique!
This is one of those quilts that makes you catch your breath and cry for its condition all at the same time. It’s lived a hard life. Several of the appliques are barely hanging on anymore. But the workmanship and the hand quilting – close close tiny stitches –are just amazing up close.
Can you see??
This was a masterpiece!
And then someone who didn't know better ---
Possibly used it as a bed spread and washed it every week until it started to fall apart! I wish we knew more about this lovely, but as I said – it was purchased at a yard sale for $1.00. Okay everyone, all together now ---- SIGH!
Another interesting antique!
The hexie medallion in the center is appliqued to the center of a large paisley scarf! Then border were added. The final gold border was added even later – you can see on the back of the quilt where they added backing fabric and batting as well as the front gold border to the quilt. These quilts have amazing histories – and they are UNKNOWN!
Medallion close up.
Corner of paisley shawl.
Grand Illusion Mystery!
Close up ---so much fun!
This looks like an Asian trellis to me – pattern unknown.
We ooh’d and Ahh’d over this Judy Niemeyer Glacier Star!
That QUILTING!!
Chris brought her Pineapple Blossom from the Free Patterns tab!
Love her colors!
Our first ever mystery! Carolina Crossroads!
Pattern for this one is now found in Scraps & Shirttails.
Album Blocks called Granny Squares from AP&Q Magazine!
More Antique Love!
If you don’t have a show & share from one of my designs, and you’ve got great antiques – BRING them to class for show & share! It’s fascinating to see these lovelies up front. This one contains many feed sacks and is likely from the 1940s. Very thick batting….I can imagine how warm and toasty it was to sleep under this quilt! Broken Dishes design.
Simple Hatchet Block in 2 colors! Loads of gingham and solid yellow!
Album blocks biggie sized! 1940s with feed sacks!
Notice this is the same block as the “granny square” above –just bigger squares and no sashings!
Prudence gifted this quilt to a college ball loving recipient!
Tshirt quilt in progress!
This was such a great show & share with so much variety!
Half square triangles & quarter square triangles!
All 1/4 square triangles!
I love the limited color palette on this one – almost an Amish feel to it, doesn’t it? At this stage is is still a top, I hope she finishes it soon, it is graphically wonderful!
English Paper Piecing in progress!
Thank you ladies, for bringing things to share with us all!
If you find yourself in one of my classes in the future PLEASE bring something to show & share! We use this time to get to know each other and get our excitement for quilting back in gear right after our lunch break so we are eager and ready to hit the machines again. I love seeing what you bring!
So – it’s MONDAY and that means there is Quilt Cam TONIGHT at 9pm EST!
I’ve got a day “home alone” but I’m meeting up with Rick & Mona for lunch. They’ve got an appointment in Winston and the featherweight Mona is borrowing from me is having tension issues. So we’ve arranged lunch, a machine drop off and a visit – hopefully it is something simple and I can get it back working for her ASAP!
Have a great Monday, everyone!
Thanks for sharing all those beautiful quilts with us. Looking forward to quilt cam I'll be a Lil late I have to work tonight but I'll jump on as soon as I can. Cutting out 6.5 squares this morning for a simple patchwork queen size quilt
ReplyDeleteThe "unknown" quilt design looks like one that Eleanor Burns has: Hole in the Wall quilt by Sue Bouchard.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have the piano key border on the pattern though.
Thanks Bonnie! I always look forward to reading what you've been up to! I love show and tell!
ReplyDeleteThe "unknown" quilt is similar to "Garden Fence", a hyacinth quilt design.
The quilt show and share is always a treat. But, the Whig Rose applique made my heart go thump, thump, thump. So lovely, thanks for sharing. Stephani in N. TX (Tomazec@aol.com)
ReplyDeleteLove the broken dishes with 2 of them unbroken(browns) truly magical
ReplyDeleteGreat show and share again, thanks! Funny I have that "unknown pattern" block printed out and sitting here on my desk, although it is a different name than the other suggestions. Mine is a free block from McCallsQuilting.com and is called Garden Path Block.
ReplyDeleteYea for a sewing Monday! Loved your Meme this am that "Quilting is Nature's way of making up for Mondays." Happy to wait for QuiltCam tonight. Show & Share is my favorite time.
ReplyDeletedelish slide show....
ReplyDeleteBonnie,
ReplyDeleteWhat an AWESOME slideshow of quilts. I have to say the first 2 Irish Chains are my favorite :)
Last week I was watching Quilt Cam while I did binding, tonight I'm working on my APQ 4 patch blocks.
