SEW READY TO SEW!
The feed for Quilt Cam is embedded at the bottom of this post, but my text here will give you an idea and some background on just what is going on tonight!
I pulled out a sweet “Best Built” from the late 1950s to sew on tonight…straight stitch only, powerful motor, and great two tone….aqua blue and cream…FUN!
Tonight’s project? Well, I “NEED” close to 100 3” finished red & neutral 9 patches.
It’s not rocket science, but I have stalled on this project because of the monotony, and….well, the job of cutting more strips --- I was seriously LOW in the 1.5” neutrals department.
Which means….
Loading odd hunks and chunks onto the Accuquilt Studio and cranking them through.
The worst part? Ironing the fabric before loading the tray because after that, everything is a breeze.
10 seconds to crank through 10 layers!
And waste? Not very much. a bit at the edge…
And anything 3/4” or wider but less than 1.5” goes into the string bin!
Nice set of neutrals ready to roll tonight!
Test sewing…2.5” strip set! Yeah baby!
I’ll be working on these probably for the next few Quilt Cam sessions. 100 is not a small number, even if it is easy sewing. I’ll need some strip sets light/dark/light and some dark/light/dark and it’s going to be a whole lot of strip sets through the machine.
What did you bring to sew for the evening? Click the arrow on the screen below to join me!
Bonnie, Am working on some redwork tonight while I watch. Could you please discuss a little about your lights on your machines. An needing some help on mine. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWatching quiltcam and sewing hexies. Also, I am picking up a 1904 Singer treadle machine on Saturday. I am super excited about using it
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see you on Quilt Cam tonight. I like your haircut. I'm working on my applique project while listening to you.
Hi Bonnie, I'm working on practicing my Free Motion Quilting. I have a few quilt tops completed, but the actually quilting part scares me, so I bought 10 yards of muslin and a package of batting so I can practice, practice, practice.
ReplyDeleteJoining you from Guelph, Ontario -- yes, you're pronouncing it correctly! I've pulled out some Scrappy Mountain Majesties blocks to work on.
ReplyDeleteI'm moving in about a week in a half - so I've starting packing up my sewing room.
Love the new do!
I love your "new" hair. It is so cute on you. I am putting a binding on a queen size quilt.
ReplyDeleteGale/ Oklahoma

ReplyDeleteLove your new haircut. It really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sewing the last row of blocks on my Dear Jane quilt. Still have the triangles to do.
Have you prewashed your reds? What do you do to prevent the reds from bleeding on to the neutrals?
ReplyDeleteGreat hair cut.
Hi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteI am watching the live feed on the side of the page and noticing that most of the viewers so far are Canadian...the Red and White is perfect for us Canadians! Would love to see you in Canada one day but I understand customs is challenge
Working on my Red and White Pineapple Blossom from your class at Tellico Village Quilters last month. One more border and I am done. Love your hair!!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, am binding a baby quilt for upcoming great-grandson tonight. I sometimes turn white on white over so yellowing is on inside. Thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI just printed a label on Printed Treasures paper and I can't get the paper backing off. Do you or any of your listeners have any ideas for getting it off?
Thanks.
Watching from a hotel in South New jersey. Drove up from eastern NC today to pick up my "neused" Morse Fotomatic 4400 vintage machine. You have started this wonderful new love of mine. What a joy to use these old machines. And just in time. My bernina's irreplacable circuit board is FAILING.
ReplyDeleteEven DH is catching the dear old machine rescue bug!
Love the new style Bonnie!! Young and fresh. I'm surprised the Hubster let you go downstairs tonight!! LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! First time to actually make it to quiltcam tonight. I just started following you about a month or so ago. LOVE your scrappy stuff and I feel that I found my mentor, finally! Love the haircut and keep on doing what your doing. Still exploring the site and having a hard time choosing my next project from all your cool patterns!
ReplyDeleteJennifer from Springfield AL
Vicki from Charlevoix, Michigan here. I'm about an hour's drive from Mackinac Island -- one of my favorite places on earth. And, yes,it's still cold here. We may even get snow tomorrow. Love quilt cam AND your new do! Vicki
ReplyDeleteLove the new hair cut. I'm knitting some dish cloths. I got tired of constantly throwing away those stinky sponges so decided to make some I can throw in the wash.
ReplyDeleteI have been de-boing shirts for one of your quilts.....can you use some shirts that contain 80/20 cotton polyester..??
ReplyDeleteI have been deboning some shirts for one of your quilts.....can you use some shirts that contain an 80/20 blend of cotton & polyester?
ReplyDeletewoohoo Quilt-Cam!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the new hair cut!!!!!

Hi Bonnie. Working on a small gift item with that same Downton Abbey fabric :-). while watching from Cary, NC. Like the new haircut.
ReplyDeletePutting together my supplies for my first QOV sew-in on Saturday. Your new cut is fun and fresh! Happy Spring. Maria Call in Tucson (the other Maria)
ReplyDeleteYour new do is sew becoming! Enjoyed your blogs from Macinac Island, but glad you finally came home to the rest of us. Have been anxiously awaiting a quilt cam, so thanks! I'm working on what I would call a Dancing Charms baby quilt. Will send a picture when I figure out how to do that on comments.
ReplyDeleteNow that is an adorable do and you look great with it. I just love short hair. I been cleaning and organizing my daughters old bedroom into a sewing studio. She is home this week for a visit. It will still have a bed in it but will be a twin instead of a queen size bed this way when she comes home for a visit she will still have a place to sleep. Love, love, love quilt cam and all that you do. Have a great weekend at the cabin and have a nice time home before off again to another stop.
ReplyDeleteI am working on blocks for a quilt called Turtle Lagoon from all shades of turquoise/teal batiks. The pattern is from Quilts from Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Fall of 2012. Live near the ocean and do Turtle Patrol for loggerhead turtles so this is really fun for me. Cute haircut - I am sure you will love it as it should be easy to care for.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie! Great hair. Can you explain how you cut your pieces after the strips are sewn? Do you sew all 3 strips before cutting segments? I ended up with a lot of waste when one strip or another was too short.

Hi Bonnie! Love your new look. Not sewing along tonight, instead making pizzas from scratch. Was wondering how to tell the "weight" of a fabric? Lightweight vs heavyweight, if it is not listed on the bolt.
ReplyDeleteHow does 1.5 in strips make a 9 patch? 3 strips = 4.5 in
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that 3 1.5 strips are 4.5 inches. How do you get a 3 in square finished?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful doo, Bonnie! Packing up to go to Camp Wanna Sew for 5 glorious days!!
ReplyDeleteHello Bonnie - First time I have ever watched quiltcam. It is nearly 4am here. It is not often I sleep badly - you are just the tonic I need.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do, when you come to England for goodness' sake don't offer to show anyone your backside.

ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Thank you for Quilt Cam tonight! I really love your new hair cut it looks great on you!! I hope you have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie, I missed Quiltcam live by a few hours today but I have now watch it while doing some sewing homework and caught up with what you are up to.
ReplyDeleteI like your hair too - really enjoyed quilt cam - I'm putting the borders on a quilt I made out of my scrap basket - first one in a long time but I'm inspired to do a nine patch now!
ReplyDeleteBonnie - I really LOVE your hair! It looks terrific on you!
ReplyDeleteYour machine sounds to me just like the 'purring' of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. Or perhaps it's the belly rumbles...
ReplyDeleteI'm making blocks of randomly pieced 'trash' from my leftovers bucket. Sort of crazy piecing. I need 56 of the 8.5 inch blocks and I'm nearly there. The only bits that get thrown away are slivers.
Missed this QuiltCam while I was in Vegas..will be catching it soon when I get back to my machine..and your episode on the Quilt Show too! Cannot wait!
ReplyDeleteLove you hair short makes you look 10 years younger. Just watched your segment on Quilt Show and you inspired me .I can see scrape quilts coming out more than going to buy anymore. My husband retires in 3 years then moving to east Texas .So I better start now to ease the burden of moving my stash.
ReplyDeleteBonnie I love the new haircut, it looks awesome. I'm so sorry that I missed this quilt-cam. My pc was in the shop. Love watching and, moving around in my studio while I'm working. Its so much more fun to hear what your talking about, so very quilting bee. I'm playing with the strips sewn onto old phone book pages, trying different angels. Thanks for sharing this, and for taking your sewing time and sharing it with us all.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a blast with it. I should be working on the dresden plate quilt. This strip sewing is just simple fun. Hope I see the next Quilt-cam live.
