A Quilt for Emery Elizabeth!
I finished the binding in the car on the way home from Quilt Villa yesterday afternoon. I am reminded just WHY I love to make baby quilts – they are cute and quick and fast, and don’t have to match someone’s home décor or be of a certain style of fabrics, they just have to be made to be loved and used and washed and grown with!
All that is left is signing the label, and I’ll box this up and send it on its way ---I had an email into my sister to find out just how to spell this name, because I don’t want to botch it on the label!
Funny story is..my cat’s name is EMORY – her nick name is Emmie Lou – but I found her as a stray at a quilt retreat in Emory, Texas, so I am teasing my sis about naming my niece after my cat ---Emmie Lou is about 13 now, so she is in her late middle years. What a life we've had with her!
I'm sure I'll be making lots of memories with Emery Elizabeth too, when she gets here.
I love everything about this quilt:
On the rail, green green grass in the background!
I’ve had lots of requests for a pattern for this one – and I will do it, but it’s going to have to wait a couple of weeks because I’m on the road right now and I need to be home at my big computer to get it written ---
Close up of quilting and borders!
That pink ticking stripe in the inner border? That goes back to my bunny making days in the early 1990s before I designed under the label of Needle in a Haystack. Good classic fabrics are always usable, no matter how old they are. I love how this stripe plays in this quilt.
More quilting….
I am writing this post ahead because it’s a travel day for me. Tonight I’m giving a lecture to the Friendship Quilters in La Habra, California after traveling coast to coast to get there and finding myself in a 3 hour time difference time warp.
I hope there is a small nap in my plans so that I can stay awake during my lecture!
Pattern to come – give me a couple weeks and I’ll have it posted for you!

ReplyDeleteHad to smile....I still have some of that pink stripe fabric too...as well as the blue stripe. Used them for lots of bunnies and other crafts during my craft sale days.

Very pretty quilt! Very pretty name for a baby, too!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt too. I like that your baby quilts are not 'cute' fabric. This opens up a whole new way of thinking! The colors are perfect. I don't think I have that many pinks and light blues. Does that mean a trip to the quilt store?
ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt too. My eyes are drawn to that blue sashing - it's perfect. I'm scrambling to get a baby quilt done too. You're right, they are so fun to do.
ReplyDeleteFun baby quilt. Love the babies name too. I also was looking up new baby's name so I could get it just right on the quilt I am making for him. However it is a fun bug fabric one. For Great Grand Son due in July. Bonnie I love your quilts ever so much but sometimes I just want to use bigger pieces and get the baby quilt made.
ReplyDeleteLove the Emery Elizabeth Quilt. Think a king size would be wonderful on my bed for the summer. Has to be in your colors.
ReplyDeleteA lovely baby quilt. EE and her Mom are lucky to have a talented Auntie/Sister like you.
ReplyDeleteThe color balance is fabulous. A sort of cool warmth if that makes any sense! Thank you for the chance to watch The Quilt Show! You ARE SO inspiring.
ReplyDeleteA super quilt. I am so pleased you are going to write a pattern for this quilt as I have been admiring it all the time it has been in the making. Hope your Californian trip goes well. Safe journeys.

ReplyDeleteHave a good time in California!
sorry, autocorrect......the girly COLOURS.... ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I'm sure Emory E (EE for short?) will l♥ve it, I do! And, HOW did you do that stunning outer border???? Now that is stunning! Looks like you spent hours and hours, but knowing how you think and work I'll bet there's a method you've worked out. Please share it when you post the pattern, I REALLY WANT TO MAKE THIS QUILT!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the quilt! It is darling and I especially like the pink ticking. A young friend came over one day and we were talking about possible baby names, she asked it I would be offended if she named her baby after my cat, Joslin. I told her of course not, especially since it means 'a happy girl'.

Just beautiful. I agree that baby quilts are lots of fun. I'm making one for a friend who's baby is due in August. I am using Hidden Spools.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adore this sweet little happy quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with this quilt!!! I want to make one. Can't wait for the pattern instructions! Congrats to you and family on your newest addition!!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a funny story. I made an afghan for a friend's new baby many years ago. I went to visit their new home when the little girl was about 7-8 years old. There was my afghan in the dog bed. And oh yes, the dog had the same name as me. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful quilt. Such sweet colors.
I love this quilt, Bonnie - and the outer border fabric is PERFECT! I love that your niece is named after your cat (haha)!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I confess I suffer from stash envy! I love this quilt....great job, once again!

Bonnie, I love your baby quilt. I almost never use 'baby' material in baby quilts. I want mine to be used until they wear out and 'baby' fabric just doesn't cut it.
ReplyDeleteLove your choice of fabrics. I don't make many "baby" quilts because my friends have already had their children (who are now grown adults) and they are making their own grandbaby quilts ... but ... I agree with you that small quilts are good for many purposes ... to cover someone having chemo so they know they are loved, to cover just enough in a wheelchair to know they are loved ... you get the picture ;-) Beautiful job, Bonnie ... travel safe ;-)
ReplyDeleteOMGosh! That is pretty, pretty, pretty!
