We couldn’t have asked for a better day for taping in Texas.
Okay, so a BIT cooler would have been nice, then I wouldn’t have been sweating during our filming inside the house for the interview and show and share – by the time we got to my demos I’d suffered through at least one major hot flash and my hair was flat ---but who cares, we were having a really fun time!
And yes those lights are hot.
YOUR QUILTS ARE REALLY LARGE!
Yes, I know. My quilts cover people that I love, they are not just home dec ornaments ---and they use up more fabric faster!
You are also REALLY tall! ((Yes, so I had to sit on a hassock, instead of a chair which put me a bit lower, and drop my knees so they weren’t up to my neck ---LOL))
And then there was the fun of taping on location where local sounds can stop taping because they drowned out everything --- Garbage trucks, airplanes overhead, cement mixer trucks rumbling up the road. There is so much going on behind the scenes it really amazes me how they can clip the bad parts out and mix a re-do with a first run and get it to seem like one continual well planned episode.
And boy, there were a lot of people and equipment in this one room!
If it looks as if I’m in awe, I am!
My next segment was held in Jane’s studio, a wonderful building out back of the house. We set up my demo pieces and step outs, and I got to test the Bernina machine – demoing the easy angle, leaders & Enders and string piecing.
Are you ready to do this? YES!
This is the monitor we could watch, to be sure what we were demoing was on camera. If you don’t see it here, it isn’t recorded!
Here I was explaining to Ricky the wild mix of neutrals I like to use – and I brought everything, even a piece from the dress I made while The Hubster and I were first dating. The block had hand dyeds, old calicoes, modern black on white, and recycled fabrics in it ---a good example of what I tend to work with.
See how close cameras are, and those dang hot lights again?
Next time, it’s a pony tail!
It was a great experience, let me tell you!
I will let you know as soon as they get back to me on when my episode will be airing. Right now they are taping a bunch of episodes with all different kinds of quilt artists from traditional to modern and everywhere in between. I heard about a lady from Nebraska who has over 300 toy sewing machines? I can’t wait to see that episode!
They have 3 more days of taping in the San Antonio area ---for a total of 8 shows filmed while here. Yesterday was a full and hard day, we didn’t get out of there until 5pm, and to know they are doing this again every day through Thursday –wow. These are some really hard working folks to put their best into what they do so we can enjoy it all from the comfort of our own sewing rooms. Bless them all!
As for THIS girl….after 2-1/2 weeks, she is on her way HOME!
Wow, what a fun day! Have a safe trip home.
ReplyDeleteHope everything went well with the taping. Was the blue top your new outfit that you bought? Blue suits you well. Have a good trip home, it seems as if you have been away for ages.

of course your quilts are big - you use them!! I love making big quilts too and can never quite understand so many making couch size or smaller - I don't use them that size all that much and would rather have them on a bed or a big wall.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the show. How fun and exciting for you
ReplyDeleteYOU are tall? haha
ReplyDeleteSo excited, I bet your family is really happy too. Can't wait to see the show.
I can't wait to see your show. It will be fun to see Ricky's " a ha " expression when you explain your neutrals rule.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great show and an excellent resource for quilters.
Thanks for sharing it all with us. It just shows how big of a star you've become. Looking forward to seeing the show.

Hey, the under the table in Jane's studio looks a lot like the under the long arm in yours! It looks almost like you were at home-love her cutting table and wish I had the room for one like that!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Bonnie, you look just like Bonnie on Quilt Cam-natural and real! Love you, woman!
It is fun to see the behind the scenes or as the scenes unfold recorded with comments. Thanks for sharing this experience with us! So happy you are on your way home. Sleep tight.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Thanks everyone! It was really a great day -- only I would never again choose a sweater set in Texas no matter WHAT time of the year it was :) Hot hot hot hot hot!
ReplyDeleteI must say this is great! Alex Anderson's Simply Quilts show is where I learned most of the things I know about quilting. I have never taken a formal class. I sure do miss her show. I was introduced to so many artists and technique via her program. And now you, Miss Bonnie, are going to be on her current show!!! I am so happy for you (and us!)
ReplyDeleteJudy
What a treat to share a day with Alex and Ricky !! Your approach to quilting is so fun, and I bet that came through in your segment!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNice outfit! Nice Shoes! :)
I wonder how many years those of us that aren't subscribers will have to wait until it comes up free?
Always nice to have something to look forward to.
Is the pink a blue ridge beauty? Gorgeous.
Welcome back home Sharyn in Kalama
How exciting to have two of my quilting heroes on the same show! I learned so much from watching Alex on "Simply Quilts". I had been a seamstress for many years, but I learned about rotary cutters and 1/4 inch seams watching that show. That was the start of my 15+ year addiction to quilts. Then you showed me the importance of the 'scant' 1/4 inch and how all fabrics go together if you use a lot of different ones and cut them small enough.
ReplyDeleteI was the one who was Star Struck last year. I met you in March then Ricky and Alex in September. It was a Great Year for me. Nice to see Justin in the background to, he was fun at the Super Seminar. The sweater set would have worked better in CO. They should invite you back and film you at Ricky's Cabin or retreat center.
ReplyDeleteBonnie you looks great!! That color really suits you! Love the sweater set, even if it was hot! Can't wait to see the show, just hope I'm able to see it. Not sure if we have to be a subscriber, or need to watch on a tv station. But knowing you we get all the details. Thanks Bonnie for sharing. Now go home and rest , relax and do some of your wonder cooking, and baking that you love so much.
ReplyDeleteWendy :)
This must be a fun day. A dream Bonnie. Se you ARE famous my dear :-)
ReplyDeleteand what about tall… they haven't seen me ;-)
ReplyDeleteBonnie, thanks for sharing your day - I bet it was just as exciting for Alex and Ricky as it was for you! As others have said, the Simply Quilts show was great help back when we had it to watch on TV - how lucky we were! Now thank goodness we have you and your amazing books, web site, pod casts, Where do we go from here!?
ReplyDeleteI knew it would go great! You are a natural. I guess I need to sign up because I have never watched this show but I am going to need to see yours!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very full but fulfilling day!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd do us proud Bonnie, Alex and Ricky should be in awe of you! Hope you get home without any delays.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I am so excited to see the broadcast! I've been a faithful TQS subscriber for 3 years now, and think it's one of the best productions out there. Hot and sweaty? Ah, no -- you're just glowing in those photos. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWOWOWOWOW -- you looked great, even if you were HOT! Alex must have not blood as she looked like she was all wrapped up!!!
ReplyDeleteCan not wait to see the show. While I am a basic member of her site, I am not sure I can watch the show without being a $43.00 per year PREMIEM member... we'll see. Will you have a copy on your quiltcam group?
Smiles, JulieinTN
Can't wait to see this show. I was struck by how well the blue suits you, very pretty. I have been subscriber to The Quilt Show since the first episode! Alex and Ricky have done such a wonderful job of broaden all of our horizons.
ReplyDeleteLoved the blue sweater…looking forward to seeing that episode!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see the show, but they charge membership and I can't see paying to view a quilt show. Glad you had a good time, although hot. :) Di in TN; TN Treadler
ReplyDeleteOnly 300 toy machines? Ha! That's nuthin'. Faye Beckwith in Nashville has one of the world's largest collection; some extremely rare. :) I've seen her collection and it's mind-boggling. She comes to my TOGA every year also. Di in TN
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see you on the Quilt Show!
ReplyDeleteYou looked great!
You looked wonderful Bonnie. Blue is definitely your color. I'm looking forward to seeing the show. As for being "so tall"...at almost 5'9" myself I hear that too. It's a shame you couldn't sit in a comfortable chair because of it. I love being tall and it often comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful this will be Bonnie, we don't get The Quilt Show anymore here in Australia - we used too. I'm sure they were in awe of you too :)
ReplyDeleteglad you are in texas@@ live in Austin just a hop north of San Antonio - love your books (have them all) and your facebook -you do a wonderful job - thanks for your generosity!! Mary
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the show. You looked great--good sweater color choice. Your quilts really look beautiful in the background, too! I know you will really be glad to be back in your own bed tonight!!!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading some of the comments, I hope people will become members of The Quilt Show (TQS). I've been a member since 2007 and It has been so much fun! I'm a star member and pay about $43 per year. You get two shows per month and many, many free classes, a free block of the month each year, etc. They post a lot of fun stuff, too, on The Daily Blog each day. I'm not being paid for this, either, I'm just a fan of TQS. I hope they will let Bonnie offer her show for free so all of her blog followers can see it. They do offer shows for free many times a year.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all you looked great. Hope you had fun doing the taping. It is amazing how many people were involved in the filming looked like fun though. Enjoy your time home and your family.
ReplyDeleteCan wait to watch the episode. Have a nice and safe trip HOME.
ReplyDeletehugs
You really looked wonderful! And like you were having a great time. Thank you for sharing all you do!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the show!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome!
Wooohooo!! You looked great with your new sweater set and your "flat" *eye roll* hair! I don't see your hair as flat - I just see your beautiful smile and twinkling eyes have a blast sharing what you love!! Have a safe trip home :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie - Thanks so much for sharing your behind the scenes pictures. I can't wait to see the show - looks like you hit a home run! You go girl!
ReplyDeletebtw - for those concerned about the $43 price of TQS - watch for their $5 off discounts - usually offered a couple times a year. Just follow the free daily blog - they announce it on there - usually around a holiday.
Bonnie, They were lucky to get you as one of their guests. I know you being a guest will benefit their show tremendously. Hope you are home in bed now sleeping in your own bed. I didn't think you looked tall at all. I can't imagine what they would say with a 5'11" lady.!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, unique experience! One I'm sure you'll never forget.
ReplyDeleteI just might join the membership again to see your episode. Hate to say it, but this is how they earn their living. It's not a gift. LOL
ReplyDeleteBonnie, you are a real trooper and I'm so glad that this show will get you more recognition for the quilty rock star that you are. Your quilts all look amazing and wonderful in the photos, and so did your smile!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! What an awesome experience. Love your quilts on the backdrop. You look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to watch you on The Quilt Show! I know you must have had such a great time. I'm also sure that Alex and Ricky were just as excited to meet you.
ReplyDeleteNow go home and have some well-deserved down time.
Will someone explain to me what The Quilt Show is. What network carries this show? Is it showing in the Dallas area? Would so love to see it and hope I will be able to. Thanks for any info you can give me.
ReplyDeleteMartha
Martha, it's an online only show just like a TV show, but you access it through your computer. Just go to The Quilt Show.com and check it out. They have sponsors just like a TV show--Bernina, Gammill, etc. Companies for quilters. The sponsors keep our membership costs down.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think we "knew you when". I love that that little pink and read (and maybe purple) quilt which is sparkling away behind you. I don't think I've seen that before.
