Blue Ridge Beauties in La Porte!

Houston_TX2014 008
I spent the day yesterday with the Lakeview Quilters Guild at Painted Pony Quilts in La Porte, Texas!

We filled our day with four-patches and half square triangles, but SEW MUCH MORE.

We fixed seam allowances.  We corrected and improved rotary cutting methods for greater strip accuracy.  We learned to use the Easy Angle Ruler not only for cutting matched pairs of triangles that come out the right size – but also how to use the tool to trim up “other” triangles from left over projects, sliver trimming the units down with ONE CUT instead of two or four – that cuts the trimmign time down significantly!

We spun the seams on the back of 4 patches…getting them ALL to go the same way, and understanding why previous some had gone one way, and some the other…it’s all in how you feed them through the machine!

we also spun the seams on the back of our blocks after sewing units together – if you do this – and they all spin the SAME DIRECTION – these blocks will nest with each other no matter how you place them and turn them in the quilt.  That makes for easy assembly – which makes HAPPY QUILTERS!

We had white featherweights sewing with greens!

We had black ones sewing with pinks!

And we had Denise who took her project MINI sized to use up a bevvy of 2” finished half square triangles accumulated during swaps ---so she just made her 4 patches smaller – and her blocks were so cute..check this out:

  1. Your classes always look like so much fun. Love this pattern, another one to make, the list keeps growing. Should finish Lazy Sunday and Celtic Solstice first though.

I love following your blog from England – a very wet and soggy England at the moment. I am so excited as we are planning a trip to the States in March, including a visit to The Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge. I was too late to book a workshop with you, but do hope that I shall be fortunate enough to meet you.
