I'm going to hang around an hour or so. Want to join me? Grab a project and come sew!
I hate being late for ANYTHING! I am one of the most punctual people you will ever meet -- but I came upon a fabric emergency!
I ran out of the yellow I needed!
I hit THREE stores this morning searching for the right elusive yellow ----NO DICE!
And then...in front of me...as I'm driving down the street --- THIS:
Come Back Here! I need you!!
I did find a very CLOSE yellow that will do the job...this fabric will be separated by a sashing -- so it should be fine..can you tell the difference?
I didn't think so! The small piece was my leftover -- the new yardage should see me through!
SO here I am racing like a crazy woman to get back for Quilt-Cam and I look down to see my car running on fumes!
I pull into the gas station at Sam's Club -- and my CARD doesn't work in the gas pump! It says "membership not recognized!" HA!
And by this time I'm running later and later and later ----
I feel the need for some mindless sewing today --- how about a bit of string piecing by treadle? I am all set up and ready to go!
Hi Bonnie, take a deep breath and relax! I'm happy to see you made it back safely and that you found your yellow fabric.
ReplyDeleteLovely Linda and I here in beautiful Birch Bay, WA, doing our strips for week 2 of EASY STREET! Hi there, quilty friends around the globe!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteI am joining you from Norway.
I have just started on your Mystery, and am sewing four-patches.
It is freezing here, it is minus 13 deg C (~8 deg F) and perfect weather to sit indoors sewing!
Where are you at in Norway? I have friends in Tverstad, or near there..not sure I am spelling that right. I have been there once and visited them in Songdal and went all the way to Solvorn where my great grandfather grew up and I met my family there. So glad Bonnie's fans reach all the way to Norway (and beyond!)
DeleteI am living in Trondheim, in the middle of Norway. It is great to follow Bonnie on QuiltCam!
DeleteYou do know how to make the choices hard...LOL the Packer game is on at the same time you are! I have both on, but it is muted, lol and I LOVE the Packers, smile.
ReplyDeleteI kitted up more Moth in the Window blocks and after I get done wrapping Christmas gifts I hope to be sewing them with you!
Hi Bonnie, glad you are safe and sound. I am hand stitching a binding while you keep me company. After that I can cut up some shirts. What do you do with all your leftover buttons from recycled shirts?
ReplyDeleteThanks for quilt cam.
Nikki in VA
I have piles of 4-patches and flying geese to press while I listen in a bit on quilt-cam...have a new recipe for fruitcake cookies in the oven...trying to get in the holiday spirit!
ReplyDeleteAh-h-h. Hubby is fed and watching football (through his eyelids!) I have a cup of tea and my hexie project to work on. I am ready for quilt cam!! I’ve been following along with Easy Street and would work on the flying geese for that, but the computer is in another room. So I’ll play with my hexies. They are ½” per side and I’m using Christmas fabrics.

Did you ever have a time in your life when you kept starting quilt projects and had trouble actually finshing anything??? How do you get over this obstacle? Will be seeing you in April at a guild workshop in PA.

Afternoon Bonnie! I am so pleased to be joining you for my very first mystery quilt, Easy Street! I am all caught up! YEAH! I was curious, as you select a mystery quilt for your many fans, is this a quilt you have already prototyped, or are you making it right along with us?
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm eating my breakfast and watching you in New Zealand.
ReplyDeleteAh... this is the first time I did manage to "catch" you on quilt cam. Nice to see you!

Hello Bonnie :-) Watching you in Norway. We have -10 C degrees, and it is a perfect day for sewing. I have just made a mini stuffed owl to embellish a pencil case for sewing stuff :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, working on a T Shirt Quilt and enjoying the company of quilt cam. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear your thoughts while you're sewing. Gives me a good reason to stick around and do my own "cleaning up" in my sewing room. trimming scraps. . . deciding which projects to complete, re-absorb. . . or retire . . . or recycle. . . or share. oh, and my Jubilee quilt too!!! yea 1962
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. Got my hands on the new QM magazine. I noticed a teaser..."a mystery" in the upcoming Mar/Apr issue by you?
ReplyDeleteAJ
Quilt cam, the Packers are on, and skyping with my daughter all at the same time... Love it!!!! Gonna work on my Step 2 pieces
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Just got home from California, just started getting all the fabric i brought home cleared off my sewing table so I can work on my stripes.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteAm handquilting today while joining you on quiltcam. Because my quilting room gets turned into a guest room at Thanksgiving, this is the first day we've had to turn it back into a quilting room, so first time in 2 weeks I've had to hand quilt. Have been busy this past week in the sewing room working on Easy Street and Smith Mountain Morning! Almost finished with the piecing on SMM!!!
Hi Bonnie, Mary in St. Catharines, Canada. I have you on the flat screen TV in the den while I sew down a binding on my latest Crayon Box quilt, to give to a co-worker tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOkay. Tupperware party over and staightened up! Small attendance and we made candy-yumm. Daughter still thinks this is a webanor!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, it is a beautiful sunny day here in Arizona and I just got home. I'm glad I didn't miss you! I'm working on Step 2 of Easy Street and Moth in the Window blocks as my leaders and enders. I love to watch you use the treadle.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you decide to do with the sewing table that came with your newest acquisition?
Afternoon Bonnie! I am so pleased to be joining you for my very first mystery quilt, Easy Street! I am all caught up! YEAH! I was curious, as you select a mystery quilt for your many fans, is this a quilt you have already prototyped, or are you making it right along with us?
ReplyDeletehi, Bonnie! What machine are you treadling today? Looks like you're a "two footer" - I never mastered that. I use one foot. I'm headed for my treadle shortly - but I wanted to check in to see what you were up to today!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, watching you on my son's iPad while sewing part 2 of Easy Street. Have also started cutting scrap strips for workshops in Galway next year. From Ann in Cork, Ireland
ReplyDeleteHello, Ann. I wonder if we're related: my maiden name was Sheehan, and rumor is that my grandfather's "folks" came from Cork. One day I hope to get to Ireland! Terry W in Broomfield, Colorado.
DeleteYou're my kind of holiday baker! Seriously laughing out loud! Embedded Christmas trees!
ReplyDeleteYou are on my laptop while I am making quilt backing for G-D's quilt, love the yellow! I love to watch color chemistry as seams go together <3 Barbie in NC
ReplyDeleteHello from Hanne in Norway again :-) Can't find the comment with the question about my location. I am close to Oslo, the capital.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe my luck! I was looking round the shops today and thought I'd have a look in the Charity shop to see if there were any nice cottons and I came across a beautiful hand-cranked Singer in a little wooden case! It even had 2 packs of spare needles and extra bobbins for a shuttle bobbin. The best bit? It was £7.50 and in perfect working order. My question is, where can I find out more about old Singers? Thank you so much Bonnie, without you speaking so lovingly about your own lovlies, I wouldn't even have thought about buying it. I'm in seventh heaven!
ReplyDeletewas going to put hexies in papers whilst I watched, but got home after a 3.1/2 hour drive this morning, with a headache and hungry, promptly carved my finger instead of the cold meat!!! watching anyway!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, great to see you on my laptop, while I´m quilting on my coffee-quilt. Just finished part 2 of Easy Street! :) So much fun!!
ReplyDeleteRia from the Netherlands.
Hi Bonnie, Watching here in UK whilst sewing in zillions of ends. Great to see you working on your treadle. I learnt to sew on a treadle in school back in the fifties.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, this is Bunnie in Chesapeake, VA, again.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for the "second window" idea. duh. Didn't want to miss you when the window re-loaded.
Your family may get slice and bake cookies, but they get handmade quilts!!!
The front threaded needles required a re-design of the bobbin hook.
Rainbow fabrics, rainbow sewing threads!
What do you have on the preset foot lift, on the Bernina behind you?
ReplyDeleteI am in Kentucky and love that you do this and wish more would. You are so down to earth about the quilting and that is so great in this economy, thanks Linda, keep up the good work and again love your quilt cam.
ReplyDeleteI do the same gentle rippit when removing sewn threads by "tickling the threads" with the rotary cutter carefully.
ReplyDeleteHey Bonnie. I am the one without a camera. It's my birthday month and DH bought me one yesterday, so I will be able to post pictures now for Easy Street. I have my four patches and flying geese done. I am working the strips of paper 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 while watching you. Having fun watching you.
ReplyDeleteGale in Oklahoma
Karen from Arkansas - thanks for the tip on the eyebrow thingy - I will have to look next time I run in Wal-Mart - like most likely tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Bonnie: When you are sewing string blocks without a specific pattern in mind, what are the common sizes/styles you do? Ever since I did my Orca Bay, I've been making 3 1/2" monochrome blocks from the scraps of my current project. It will be a great memory quilt someday!
ReplyDeletethank you thank you for who you are and what you do. You are truly a blessing!! and speaking of thread.... what thread do you suggest for quilting and do you recommend using the thread noted as "bobbin thread"?
ReplyDeleteso glad I made it. had to fix lunch and clean up . I have been doing crumbs and loving it so much. such fun from what use to be a nothing. Now its a something and I am thrilled. I already know how I am putting it together when all the strips are finished. so much ffffffuuuunnnn. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteFirst time I have actually caught you live. Enjoying it!!
ReplyDeleteI have lost you ... B-( "Your current account (thepiececorps@msn.com) does not have access to view this page. "
ReplyDeletehi Bonnie! catching you in the kitchen (just an old pasta dish) Glad to catch you working on my ES second part.
ReplyDeleteI don`t care about the ads cause I know you are coming back and it gives me a chance to cut and then stir up dinner.
You are just hilarious...Costco what about a quilt store...
Toronto Ontario Canada
Made it! Thanks for an afternoon edition. Hope you're getting lots of European viewers too. Here I am again hand-stitching, because my computer is not in my sewing room (no room and no connection there). It's okay -- the stitching in question is on a quilt. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the eye brow trimmer demo. I couldn't find them at WalMart, but I did make a purchase at Meijer's (regional chain based in Michigan). They were with the false eye lashs.
ReplyDeleteI am making Santas for wall hangings for family members on my embroidery machi8ne.
Marcia near Toledo, OH
Whew I made it home finally an hour late.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to know what you suggest for bow tie blocks, I now have 200 done I need to cut more pieces to sew, but should I start making 12 inch blocks with the 200 I have or just finish all that is needed then begin piecing them together??
santa sewing with selvedges here in chilly maine @ 32 degrees...freezing!
ReplyDeletemaking coasters for my stepmother from my dad's hawaiian shirts. My dad is 86 and that is the only type shirt he wears. Eventually they will be used in a quilt. I love the cam, ads and all <3
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie. Leader and ender question. Do you precut squares for leaders and enders?
ReplyDeleteAJ in Savannah area
I'm sitting out Easy Street, but all of happy chatter about Quiltville quilts motivated me to pull out my cheddar bowties and start woth on them again.
ReplyDeleteYes we are really close to Sinterklaas ... I've asked him for extra time to quilt. Wondering if I get my wish :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, Nice to sit here with you . I'm knitting dish clothes . Just a ? do you find the treadle machine low ? you seem taller when you sit at it then at your other machines . why?
ReplyDeleteQUESTION!!! what can you do with the card boards from JoAnn fat quarters?
ReplyDeleteIf you do any fussy cutting, you could use the cardboard to cut little 'windows' to see what you'll be cutting. The inside of the window is the finished size of the square, and the outside is the seam allowance. You can see some examples of what I'm talking about here: https://amidthismoment.wordpress.com/2012/07/14/polaroid-block-swap/
Delete-Bobbi
Templates com to mind.. As does a foundation for the kids to work on. I used to give them to my nieces to do with as they please, they got pretty creative with them.
DeleteI hear Bonnie mention your question during Quilt Cam and I had been cutting out the pieces for several Christmas Mug Rugs while watching. I can't sew and watch Bonnie at the same time so I usually cut out spools or something for my leader/ender that uses multiple small pieces. I used the card boards from JoAnn fat quarters for separating the individual mugs & put rubber bands around them.
DeleteHi Bonnie
ReplyDeleteJust cleaning my sewing room and watching you. I have finally talk myself into doing the mystery so I need to pull fabric. Today is my birthday and so happy to spend some of it with you. Happy Quilting.

maybe you did find the finished blocks already, but I think you put them to your right...... ;)
ReplyDeleteAm I right??
Ria from Holland (still watching and quilting and having a lot of fun watching you!!)
Hey, Bonnie. When you're using shirts, is it a big deal if some of them are cotton blends instead of 100% cotton? I have a couple of blends that were gifted to me, and I don't know if they will cause trouble if I use them in a quilt that's mostly 100% cotton shirts.

Hi Bonnie from Belgium for the first time live! Fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow beetle.
Bonnie, not living near quilters, nice to sew along with everyone. Feel like I am at a retreat!

Speaking of orange shirts. While in Tennessee last spring there were so many men wearing orange shirts the I finally turned to Ray and said - what is with the men around here wearing orange? (Not many orange shirts here in So Cal.) he reminded me that it's their team color.
ReplyDeleteWhen I moved to Knoxville, TN I was dumbfounded by the amount of orange around town. The hotel we stayed in the first night in town even had University of Tennessee logo orange lamp shades in the lobby!
DeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI just checked the updates on Facebook and saw that you're live! YAY! No "set alarm clock to 3 a.m. today to watch quiltcam"
Greetings from Germany!
Jane
Working on Easy Sreet here. Finished step 1 cutting on 2. Emmie is pretty. My hubby brought home kitten. I worked and worked getting her to go out the doggy door. Success. But now even if patio door is open she uses the doggy door. Lol. She has since decided her sleeping spot is inside the sectional where the table lets down. Yea that's the cat bed inside the sofa. Crazy cat. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI have been saving the 1/4 cardboards to label baskets, for when I cut up my scraps, since they are sturdy they wont bend easily, Im using a gator clip to clip them to some dollar store basket.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed working on Easy Street for about an hour with you today.
The tips on lining up the flying geese have helped so much!
Thanks for inviting us to spend the afternoon with you!
Meg from Michigan.
Bonnie, I certainly empathize with you about the bundle thing. I don't care for bundles either; for me, fat quarters is about as small as I go -- occasionally fat eighths, but no strips or squares. I find cutting my own is a very soothing activity, and as it's seen me through some very stressful times in my life, I wouldn't trade the opportunity to cut fabric for all the 'convenience' in the world. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteTrying to work out where you are in your sewing room now? Is your long arm to your left now? Just waking up here in Australia so having a lazy breakfast in bed and watching you on my phone!
I made it!!! Hubby HAD to have a leaf blower! So I went to Kohls while he went to Home Depot and I got a new purse! ha!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, I'm watching you from The Netherlands. I'm American married to a Dutch man. I love Marco Borsato too.
ReplyDeleteI got on to watch you after you started. What are you working on? Looks like you are sewing onto a piece of paper. Is this correct?
Love watching you on Sundays. Oh yeah, love watching you using your old treadle machine too.
Karen in The Netherlands
You make me wish for my granny's treadle machine! When she lived with my aunt, which was next door, I would go up and sew on it. I had so much fun! Wish I knew where it was. I would pay most anything to have it.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie....Jill and Melody from Erie. We are working on Easy Street!
ReplyDeletePlease tell about the hour glass quilt on your wall :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course he got his leaf blower. Now he is sitting on his chaise playing games on the computer and the leaf blower sits in the back of the truck. lol
ReplyDelete80 degrees here Bonnie, had to get up and turn the a/c on. Please say hi to Cathi at QuiltObsession blog. She is the INKLINGO queen. Makes beautiful quilts using that method. I see they have the compatable EASY STREET up!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie, it's Karen in The Netherlands again. Trying to figure out how to add a picture. Would live to show you my stack of crumb blocks for my friend Angelika's quilt.
ReplyDeleteGood morning from Sunny Queensland! I'm working on a second Easy Street in your colours and thoroughly enjoying myself. I also made 4 ceiling fan blocks - they turned out so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWow I went out to the DR's and then got my pills and came home and you are still sewing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your time with us. It's like having a little quilt retreat and getting to sew with a friend.
ReplyDeleteBTW - nice product placement at the end of quilt cam. As you moved past the computer, you had your Coke Zero bottle held perfectly label-front for the camera!! You should get advertising income from them!

ReplyDeleteIf there's a difference between those two yellows I can' see it - good match. Rats, I missed Quilt Cam again. I was working in the kitchen - rather be sewing!
ReplyDeleteSince I can't see anyhing o the screen , I guess the fun is over fortoday. Guess I will have to try to figure out the time-difference a little bit better next time. Or maybe the people in netherlands or belgium could help me. Hope you all had a nice time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sewing with us today. It's always more fun to sew WITH somebody. Have a happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteWell, my geese are done but they look like they've had a long, hard migration. This is my first time with the Easy Angle rulers. Ready for the next clue!
ReplyDeleteJust got home from quilting retreat. Missed the two Quiltcams this weekend. Wondering when will be the next.
ReplyDeleteBonnie said that she may have Quiltcam again on Tuesday.
Deleteoh rats!!! I have missed quiltcam today, & I would have to miss the one with your treadle, I just bought a Singer treadle this week & have spent the last few days spit-polishing it & oiling it etc..(I smell like a mechanic)..I am dying to give it a go but keep putting other 'houseworky' things first - it is so hot here in Qld, Aust today, & tomorrow is supposed to be worse!!! I would love to switch off with some sewing.
ReplyDeleteHope I catch you next time.
I've got that exact yellow as part of my EZ Street. I had to substitute yellow to orange because I don't have enough purple. I like how it looks with the white/black and grey, so I'm good to go.
