Teenage Daycare!! (I'm Lovin It!)

Jeff (my 16 yr old son)got a job!! He actually got a job! (See me doing the happy dance of joy joy joy!)

Mc Donald's called him today to come in for an interview. Dave had to take him since I had a client at 4pm...I told Dave that if Jeff got a job we would have to work out the drop off/pick up schedule because I couldn't lose ALL my afternoon clients to come from the other side of town to pick up Jeff and take him to work, but I would be willing to SHARE the responsibility.

They hired him! And they wanted him to start IMMEDIATELY! So....Dave left him there, and called me. He needs to be picked up at 11pm. That means my son will have worked from 4:30pm until 11pm!! That is 6 1/2 hours of gainful employment where I didn't have to wonder where he was, worry who he was with or what he was doing.

He will come home exhausted and I am sure he won't be sneaking out of his window in the middle of the night!

I came home from work to find the IRONING BOARD set up in the middle of the room..which means he IRONED his clothes before his interview!

Hahahahahahahahhahha....I've been waiting for this day for a long time!

It's almost 8pm now...let's see...that still gives me three hours to do what I want until it is time to pick him up...oh happy day!

On the other hand....Jason and Shanon have split up. Jason is moving back home.....more on that as it unfolds.

  2. That is so exciting. I know just how you feel since my DS had his first gainful employment this past summer. It's so nice to have them somewhere you don't have to worry about them.

  4. Congratultions, you boy are lucky. My DD got her first sommerjob this year and earned a lot of money. A big relief for me as a single mom and newly bought house. She is still working some weekends. So I know the feeling you got. That's great. And you discover he had ironing his clothes LOL I think your heart bounced a bit. our kids are not small kids anymore.

  5. The next stage is when he gets his first paycheck and the reality of minimum wage and taxes hits! It was about his third minimum wage job that finally convinced my DSS that going to school was important. I wanted to laugh so hard I popped the top button on my jeans!

  6. Great news on the job front! I think these fast food jobs are important for our teens...as I put it with mine they teach the importance of post secondary education. I think they also learn alot of other valuable life skills.
I'm sorry about the breakup news I guess the rollercoaster of parenting does last longer than their teens?

  8. It's great when those years of teaching (and praying) actually reveal that the lessons did not fall on deaf ears! The biggest change I noted in my youngest son was when he bought his home. Talk about your home-bodies! He immediately installed new windows in the basement and kitchen, put up a new screen door, repaired and restained the deck, installed fencing in the back yard, and built shelves for some of his collectibles in the basement. He also built a really nice workshop in the back of his elongated garage, and has refinished several pieces of furniture. Now, he has a garden, and calls often to ask for cooking advice. He loves to cook!! This is my fast-food diet kid . . . he eats vegetables and everything! Hope you see more signs of growing up, too!

    Sorry about Jason and Shannon.

It is a good feeling when your child gets a job, isn't it? Mine was a little behind being 19 when she got hers back in March, but I think it has done her a world of good. She works at Starbucks inside a grocery store and really enjoys it. Today she is getting "promoted" to the produce department and gets a raise! And she is going to school fulltime too! I love it. Now, if my stepdaughter would just do the same, but she told her dad no way. That's a whole different story . . . Anyway, congrats proud mom!

  11. Congrats on the job!

Sorry about the other son's breakup. It's hard being a parent when their heart is breaking.

I think you and I travel the same road often! I am so happy to hear that Jeff got a job and he ironed his clothes for the interview. There is hope!! :)

Too bad about Jason and Shannon. Good luck on that issue. Moving home will be tough on all of you.

  16. Congrats on Jeff's job. When our son got his McD's job, he rode his bike to work and we drove him and the bike home. That way, he was responsible for getting himself to work. Could that work for you?
Sorry to hear about Jason and Shanon-they've been together a long time. But better to find out before there are any little ones to worry about.
So good to see you writing again. I look for you everyday.

  17. Great to hear your happy news! Our kids do surprise us in many ways. Sorry about the break-up. Been there. I'm still feeling sad on behalf of my son who had his heart broken a year ago. I'm probably sadder than he is!

  19. Bonnie, I enjoy your blog and 'met' you through Lucy's blog. I really can relate to the stories about your sons! As the mother of two myself, I can relate! Thank you for making me feel like I'm a normal mother, and for the inspiration you give for quilting and life!
