I'm going to start this post with Flash right here.
Something amazing has happened.
I never thought it would!
If you will remember, Flash has been with us a bit over a year and a half now. I think? You know, time flies around here.
It was JUST this spring when he finally learned how to control his tail and gave it a full and upright "up periscope!" that even let us know that he in fact, yes in deedy, is a he.
It was also this summer when he started exhibiting more "cat like" behaviors, because you know - his mom never taught him ANYTHING.
"What? Were you born in a barn?"
Yes, likely.
He found us as a very feral youth and it has been slow learning around here.
I honestly think he is somewhat slow. Like special needs kitty. At any rate, he was never taught any behaviors, no people skills and it has been a very slow go around here with hissing and swiping of murder mittens, etc.
A month or so ago he started rubbing his face on things, like he enjoyed it. Like cats do. This was new for him.
And then he started putting his cheek to the ground and looking like he was trying to roll over. As cats do, but he never learned how.
Tail up = security and comfort.
Face rubbing = marks territory and shows affection.
And just the other day for the first time ever - HE PURRED! I swear! I was shocked.
It happened when I put down his food bowl and I just stood there and talked to him while he purred.
It hasn't happened again yet, but I have hope.
I've also been reaching out a hand to lightly pet his back or catch his tail while he goes up the steps when I'm giving him food and he doesn't jump back like he's been tasered. I think we are getting there. Honestly.
He may never accept us any more than this, but he is purring. And not acting like he's been electrocuted.
I'll still work on him, but things are happening.
So is this! LOL!!
Yesterday was a desk day for me. There is so much happening this week and I'm not quite there, but getting there.
So imagine me with my mug of apple cinnamon tea, and in comes this crazy girl with zoomies all over the studio, jumping up on things, zooming around things, and finally she comes in, and lands in the trash can?
I guess it's true what they say - dumpster cats are the best.
Evidently she thinks she needs a cat scan, too.
The only sewing time I found was for making some "step out" parts for the Tropical Twist workshop the November Quiltvillians are having this weekend. Pattern from my Addicted to Scraps book,
Here is a throw back to a 2017 workshop!
This time I'll only only have 12 in class...but I can't wait to see what fabrics they are putting together.
After that was done I laid out some kite blocks
Row 9 is ready to put together!
So many little scraps, and the same ones still end up too close together!
Love that spiderweb in the neutrals toward the center - see it?
I'll wait until the end to attach the rows to each other so I can be sure to spread the variety around and try not to get the same thing too close to the same thing. But, you know. They will find each other anyway.
This morning's view as the sun was breaking through the fog.
Most of the retreaters arrived yesterday afternoon, a few are still arriving today so we will start our workshop tomorrow.
And of course you also know what happens TOMORROW?!
We are off like a firecracker with our Festival PDF pattern release and Gift-Away!
I am so anxious to see what you do with this one. Whatever colors and fabrics you choose.

I'll be drawing for 2 winners who will each receive a Festival PDF pattern from me AND a Facets of Yellow color roll from our friends at Cotton to Quilts!
And do check out their other color rolls! The Notable Neutrals rolls can't be beat for building up your own collection of fun neutrals for scrappy quilt backgrounds.

We will draw for our winners on Friday, October 30th! That's TOMORROW!!
More desk day for me today. Maybe some sewing time late afternoon.
How about you? Are you excited for our Quiltville Winter Mystery intro happening Saturday?
Do you want a hint??
Go show your neutrals some love and give them a good press -
You are going to need them! HA! (okay, I know that was obvious....)
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
It's one of the wonders of the universe - scrap quilts just make more scraps!
And I'm totally okay with that, aren't you?
Let's make the most of this Thursday -

Hi Bonnie! My day always starts with you! Inspiration in every post. Have you decided if you will make your kit quilt into a pdf pattern? I sure hope so!
ReplyDeleteYay, we're using light neutrals! I have some of those...🤣

The tropical twist workshop group you featured was my introduction to your scrap system and wonderful quilt patterns. I’ve been addicted ever since and thoroughly enjoy your blog and wonderful gifts you give us (quilting tips, mystery quilts, leaders and enders projects, monthly pattern releases, views of places beyond our borders, and so much more). I always find a reason to smile when reading each post. Many thanks!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the teaser for the mystery. And of course the car content. Can’t wait to be a tired quilter with a slightly smaller mount scrapmore after
ReplyDeleteLol, that's an easy assignment. I have a bin of neutrals. Glad you get to teach a class. I always learned something new when you taught me in a workshop. Great memories. Flash and Hazel and Tula are so lucky you take care of them.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to read of Flash's progress! He is a very luck boy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Flash progress!!!! It probably helps that you're so unattached to him becoming a snuggly housecat, and you let him go on his own time and his own path.
ReplyDeleteHow do you decide what counts as a neutral? I think I make different choices every time I sort.. for example, the fabrics that have bright colors but on a white or cream background/field?
Can't wait to see Flash in April! Let's hope I can get a scritch on him!!!!
ReplyDeleteI always love your posts! Today it was esp delightful to get an update on Flash. Not surprising if he's a dim bulb, I imagine along with not being taught how to be a cat he didn't get good nutrition as he was growing. I love seeing his progress. I'm very excited about this year's mystery! And so grateful you do one for us - is helped me thru many a christmas season! And of course, I love your new project too! I even bought myself a set of kite templates! I think I have more quilt projects in the queue than I can do in my lifetime! But I love them all. As a former November Quiltvillian, I'm sad to miss all my beloved quilting sisters but I hope you have a grand time this year as always!!!
ReplyDeleteJust LOVE your kite block quilt--so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLoved the picture of Hazel in the trash can. I had a cat that used to hang out in the recycling bin. Too funny! Your kite quilt looks fabulous! I hope you decide to make it a pattern for the rest of us. I'm ready to tackle Y seams.
