And truly, I could be re-sorting them back into their color families and start putting them away (in their new cubbies beneath the table side of the long arm which is working out SPLENDIDLY!) but maybe I will want to frame this quilt top with *something* when I fully get it together so there they stay.
When making truly scrappy blocks...I kind of fly by the seat of my pants thinking that if I pull in ENOUGH variety the likelihood of the same fabric touching itself as the blocks come together will be somewhat minimalized.
Not wanting to think too hard after yesterday's post - I just sewed all of the blocks into pairs, checking that no fabrics rejoined itself as they are want to do.
Today? Maybe they will be joined in fours and I can start laying out.
There have been so many kind and understanding comments and helpful emails with where we can look to find housing that will fit us for a few months while we help Jason with his rehab after brain surgery.
Click if you missed Yesterday's Post.
For those inquiring, he will be at PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Washington.
We have some leads on rentals, and are so grateful for offers on the Portland, OR side of the river, but traffic can be an absolute snarl and a 20 minute drive can take 2 hours so we are trying to stay close to where his therapy will be.
Most of all we appreciate and feel much comfort in the well wishes and prayers being offered so freely in our behalf. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
I know they will carry us forward with our "One Day At A Time" motto.
Yesterday Jason was feeling quite hemmed in and anxious while staring at the 4 walls of his 300 sq ft studio apartment and I suggested he get in his converted van and just go camping for a couple of days.
He texted later that he was on his way up toward Mt St Helens - the season is over the camping spaces are free. He's got his camera, he loves to take photos. He stopped at this burger joint to send a photo before he left any traces of a cell signal behind. He'll be out of touch for a while.
I think being one with nature for a couple of days will be good for him.
At any rate - I know many of you come here for quilting content only, and quilting is definitely going to be what is holding my seams together in the near and far future.
Stitching with the Muddy Creek Misfits!
I did as much as I could yesterday in the studio, and in the afternoon came to sit and stitch for a couple of hours.
This is the next-to-the-last small hexie motif in the done column!
That means there is only one more, and then I need to concentrate on the larger ones surrounded by the aqua.
This whole project may be coming to Vancouver with me - who knows - the top may be done before things get back to normal.
One top finish! Great way to use that colorful fabric!
Not a pumpkin - but it's orange!

ReplyDeleteI couldn’t agree more with the quote of the day. I’m sure you are getting loads of love and bear hugs with the retreaters in the house. Love the quilts and blocks shown. FranSak in WA
ReplyDeleteBlessings to all of you as you walk through this challenge. May the surgery, recovery and rehab be successful.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Bonnie, I hope if you find the cure for waking up at 3 am you will pass it on. I woke up at 3:41 thinking the dogs wanted to go out. Only I don't currently have a dog. LOL Brenda J.
ReplyDeleteThinking of and praying for your family. I would appreciate updates on Jason! Take care of yourselves.
ReplyDeletePrayers going up for Jason and all of you. Diane
ReplyDeleteBonnie-My heart and prayers are with you as you navigate through this difficult time. Please do your best to take care of yourself and do only the quilting/writing that helps you cope!! The rest can wait.

Bonnie, you and yours are in my prayers as we walk a parallel path. Our son has been treated for kidney cancer for two years now. So very frightening! God is good. He has all of us in His hand. Prayers will continue! Beverly Fenley, in Texas.
ReplyDeleteDear Bonnie: So sorry to hear about Jason's condition. Much love and prayers go out to you all. Sending positive vibes for a positive outcome. You are all strong and have so many people rooting for you. A friend in Berkeley Springs, WV. Miss seeing you up here. Hugs, Joyce
ReplyDeleteTry Lateral Eye Movement to fall back to sleep. Close your eyes, move them side to side a few times (like trying to look at your ears) and you’ll realize you’ve stopped thinking. Then you can choose to fall asleep or start thinking about your worries again.
ReplyDeleteBonnie so sorry to read Jason's news. Our family experienced same news in April this year Surgery 2 days later revealed my Sons glioblastoma tumor right side of brain. Worst of the worst. He walks, talks & is almost his old self. We pray all treatments keep him with us. Praying. While pretending that all is well. Jason is your first priority.
ReplyDeleteWe have your back! Take care of family first - we can wait! Marilyn Marks
ReplyDeleteGot a day behind in the blog. Bonnie, please take all the time you need with your son and attending to his recovery. Family comes first. All of us understand and many have travelled this similar path of health concerns. I will keep all of you in prayers.
ReplyDelete🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
ReplyDeleteSending love, hugs, prayers to Jason, you and your family. The quote of the day is so very true. Jenny

DeleteA thought for you as you discern traveling and being away for some time. When I travel from Wisconsin to Maryland to see with my bestie, @quiltingswmbo, I borrow one of her machines or will bring a featherweight. Doubless, someone in the Portland/Vancouver area has a machine to lend you? Quiltists, who could help out here????
ReplyDeletePraying for you and Jason as you deal with this situation. Our only child had a brain tumor but God helped us through it. I would like to send you a book my husband wrote about how he dealt with our daughter’s cancer. Our email is jimkarenszymanski@gmail.com please send me your address. I sent some aqua strips but didn’t keep your address. Karen Szymanski
ReplyDeleteWe come for the quilting but stay for the family feel. Of course we care about the ups and downs in your life, and hope for successful surgery and quick and full recovery for Jason. Meanwhile we all know that quilting pushes the worries back to give our minds a break.
ReplyDeleteI saw a quote on Facebook and thought it might give you a smile. It read "My ducks may not be in a row but they're having fun! Your ducks probly hate you for making them line up like that"
ReplyDeleteKnow that things will be chaotic and then they won't be. Take care of yourself, so you can care for your family.
I'm glad to hear you got some answers on housing. Vancouver is a nice place to re over. Hope it brings back memories of our PNW Retreat. Take good care of yourself and the hustler. Caregivers need prayers too. Love the hexies. I think you may be able to Stitch a few.
ReplyDeleteSending all our love and prayers for your family while going through your son’s health journey.
ReplyDeleteJason has a wise woman for a Mom. Going camping to refill his mental health bucket before he begins his surgical intervention is positively BRILLIANT! Moving his body, breathing deep will work wonders for him in the ICU. Go Mom Go!
ReplyDeleteI love (not) the 3:30-4:30 am mental commentary. Seems to be a vulnerable time. I remind myself that the middle of the night is not a good time for rational thinking and tell my brain 'thanks for sharing, and I'm going to sleep now!' Best wishes and lots of love. This is a tough one, Bonnie. You've had your share of challenges, and we're all holding you and your loved ones very close in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteBonnie you and Jason and your family are in my prayers. Life just seems to go on in the midst of our trials. I agree with the multitude that family comes 1st. Mystery can happen as it happens. Take care of yourself and your family.
ReplyDeleteJust catching up with Jason’s news. Hugs to all.
ReplyDeleteThat Dreamwalker pattern is beautiful (but I love everything blue & green). Keep breathing, putting one foot in front of the other, and know that all your quiltvillians are keeping you & your family in our thoughts and prayers. And please post updates on this journey. Yes we are quilters, and joined for the quilty content, but we are quilters and we care about the quilty content creators!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to have Jason get out into nature. Hopefully it will give him something peaceful to focus on. Waiting is so hard at these times. Blessings to you and your family.
ReplyDeletePrayers for all y'all. I
ReplyDeletePrayers for you all.
ReplyDeleteI'm sending you all love, and hope for a speedy recovery, Bonnie. You're going to be a scant 3 hours from me, as I am just 15 minutes north of Tacoma.
ReplyDeleteDear Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteYou and your family will be added to our Church prayer chain.

ReplyDeleteAah, Bonnie. I am so very sorry to hear about your son. I will keep you, Dave and Jason in my thoughts....hoping for a truly successful outcome to his surgery.

ReplyDeleteIt’s nice to have someone awake with me between 3:30 to 4:30. I wake up and can’t go back to sleep, so I read my Kindle.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs to all, and you will all be in my thoughts throughout. Take good care, as we need you all healthy! Extended Mystery details will be just fine.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I have experienced your pain with cancer and the most important thing to do with your son is keep your sense of humor. My sister and I never lost our close relationship because we both tried to keep our normal humor with each other. i lost my sister back in 1993 and I am sure they have made major advances since then so I am confident that Jason will be fine. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteYou will be in my daily prayers until you, Dave and Jason are safely through this ordeal. This is light at the end of this tunnel and it is not a train. Much love and hugs.
ReplyDeletePraying for healing and strength for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteYour name along with Jason and Dave have come up multiple times and with everytime the names cross my mind good thoughts and prayers follow.
ReplyDeletePraying for Jason and your whole family during this trying time
ReplyDeleteLike everyone says take care of you first, the rest will follow.

Praying for Jason and medical team, you and your family. Please keep us updated as you have time..more time between clues will be no problem.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I am the Mom of a cancer survivor. 18 years ago all I could do was keep myself as cared for as possible so I could be there when she needed me. That time came when she went into the hospital for a radioactive chemo treatment and I took my grandson on a road trip to Eastern Washington State.
ReplyDeleteAll is well, and I pray for the same results for your family.
Bonnie and Family, prayers for peace and health for Jason. We are all here for you. Please take all the time you need for family. Quilting friends support your needs and will be here when your time permits.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
