Counting The Days -

I had these visitors outside the QPO Studio this weekend.

Son Jeff has been prepping the porch floor at the inn for painting this week - and he finished the second round of power washing yesterday.

The cats are not impressed with the sound or the spray of the power washer....so they took a little hike over to the far end of the parking lot behind the QPO Studio to get away from the hubbub.

That old tumble-down general store to the side?  That was the beginnings of all of this cat distribution system chaos.

Cats get dumped - they take up shelter under the old general store, and then they find their way over to our porch.

Someone asked if we were able to pet/touch Flash yet, and the answer is no.

He is still living by the 6 feet away rule and will bolt if you approach him - but he does come when I call letting him know that breakfast is being served up.  He comes for treats.

And most often you can find the two of them together - as on this little field trip.

It will be interesting today as Jeff starts the painting! I'm expeciting there to be kitty paint prints at some point somewhere.

The best part of the weekend?

A red-headed 4th grader eating pizza in the studio and watching some cartoon something while Bonana rushed around trying to get all of the things done that need to be done before I head out for New York on Friday and then off to Europe!

Our first stop? Zurich, Switzerland!

I am on the custp of packing panic - putting all of the cities into my weather app so I can determine what to back - and I'm wondering how we ever managed to know what to pack without the convenience of a weather app?

Besides the cloths - what's the most important of all?  Traveling hexie project!

And I needed to kit up some more neutrals - I needed to count what units I had and make sure that I had enough variety to go with each.

My hexies are 3/4'' per side.  I'm working with 2'' squares. Yes, there is a bit of extra seam allowance on a couple of the sides when folding around but I DO NOT CARE.

I'm going to machine quilt this one - consider it as extra insulation.

When I first started this project, not really knowing where it was going I only made the center flower motifs and had those stocked back, then for travel have baggied them up with the needed neutrals and needed aquas -

Grab and go - all in a snack bag:

I'm likely kitted up for my September trip, the after Thanksgiving trip to the Christmas Markets in Germany and Austria, and the trip to Morocco in January!  (More on my trips HERE.  Come with me!)

Each snack baggie holds a center rosette, enough neutrals and enough aquas to make one large motif.

Only 3 large motifs are needed to complete the next digaonal row so I can get that added to the mothership.

As I said I'll be good for a while which means I won't have to worry about traveling hexies for the next few trips at least.

This is the smaller in-between motif - one more for the done pile.

I think the oddsd are in mky favor that this one WILL get done within my life time! HA!

Other things going on in the studio?

Do you know that by the time I get back from this trip it will be almost October?

You know what happens the last day of October?

The crunch is on!  So if you feel like you are not seeing enough of what my current projects are, ask yourself "What could be going on behind the scenes?!"

If you think something's up.  You just may be right!

This is also on the to-do list!

There has been such a clamor for the pattern for Flame Azalea that I'm pushing it into September instead of waiting until next spring.

I'm finishing up the pattern this week so we can release it upon my return from Europe.  AAACCCCKK!  There is so much to do!  But it's coming.  So start gathering your pinks, oranges, and favorite neutrals - or whatever colors you want.  It would be gorgeous in holiday colors as well.

I can't wait to see what you do with this one -

More desk day ahead for me today -

Are your hexies already glued to the squares, if not don't forget them. I also am going out of town for a long weekend and am taking two hexie projects in case I either get bored with one or something goes wrong and I need a change. Have safe travels.

  6. Wow, Bonnie! I absolutely love Flame Azalea! I had to stare at it a while before I got it how you put this one together and saw the 25 large blocks! Amazing! I am definitely purchasing this pattern when it comes available! No rush though. This month, next month, or the month after. It's all good. Please don't push yourself so hard. We'll still be here enjoying your work and your adventures. What I can't wait for is your annual mystery quilt. I love seeing how it unfolds, and I love seeing everyone else's interpretations of your quilt. Have a wonderful trip and stay safe and well.

  7. Oh, What to pack... I leave My suitcase packed with an extra set of toiletries and essentials. I put them back after laundering. I forget to pack socks often so there are extra socks stored in my bag. Hexies in Snack bags, you are set to travel. I like to have a few kitted in a zip bag.

  8. Love that stack of quilts to the left of your grandson! He looks so cozy watching tv and munching on pizza. :-) My youngest grandchild (girl) just started 6th grade this year. The time sure flies by fast!
Your hexi organization looks great. Snack baggies are the perfect size. Good luck with your packing, Jenny

  9. Yay!! Black and white photos!! I have Old Town on the wall, my blocks are done. I am working on the pieced sashing now. I'm not in the "get it done before" crunch. I just get them done. After that I will probably be doing something with all of these blues and pinks that I have been pushing around. ALso getting ready for Sew a Jelly Roll day! :-)
Today was training at work. It was nice to just have the 4 of us at school! Tomorrow it's back to the grind. Thanks for sharing the kitty updates. I hope they get plenty of treats while you are gone! Happy stitching!

So excited for the mystery quilt. It is the best gift I receive all year. I'm thinking of going really rogue with the colors. Just choosing the 4 or 5 of my favorites that I have in fabrics already and going with it no matter what!! And that Flame Azalea quilt. So gorgeous. Will need to purchase!! Thank you.
