For The Love of Fabric!

I have half a quilt!

That doesn't sound like too much, but it has taken years to get to this point.

Granted - it has been mostly a travel project, and due to Covid there was a 3 year span of time that I didn't travel at all so it just SAT patiently waiting for me to get back to it.

The more pieces I add...the more it comes to life.

Is it worth it?  ABSOLUTELY!

I'm just about to take the last few stitches here.

And so begins my start on the second half. Hopefully it won't take as long as the first half.

Answers to incoming questions:

My hexies are 3/4'' per side.

No, I do not sew through the papers.  No I do not use glue.  

I simply baste with thread by tacking the corner folds of the seam allowance around the papers.  My stitches do not go through to the front.  The basting stitches stay in place holding the seam allowances down and keeping them nice and flat - they don't flop all over the place as loose seam allowances and glue basting does.

Instead of basting hundreds of hexies individually, I baste one, and sew on to my motif with the same thread.  Baste another, sew it on, baste another, sew it on.  Because the basting stitches stay, I don't have to worry about clipped threads and stitching coming undone.

The papers pop out easily and can be reused a few times before they are too mangled to hold their shape any longer.

I'm stitching this with Sew Fine thread in a light grey.

And I'll start on another motif - as soon as I get that little Old Town quiltlet quilted!

It was a hot and humid weekend with a few showers interspersed that did nothing but make things more hot and humid.

The cicadas are humming all through the day and night letting us know that August is almost here.

Where does the time go?

This morning we'll be doing some front of the house group shots and other photos before sending a couple of ladies on their way who need to leave a bit early due to obligations.

It's the last full day for Chris's Christmas in July group, and we've had a splendid time!

Our Abbeygate release was a hit!  I'm so thrilled to hear that so many of you have been setting your scraps aside with this quilt in mind and I can't wait to see what you do with this one.
