Quilting Quarters Floors!

This was the welcome sight upon my arrival at Quiltville Inn yesterday - and the QPO Studio where I start to put my work life back in order after 2 1/2 weeks gone -

FLOOR REFINISHING TIME!

I've wanted to do this for quite some time - and I thought we were settled on a June 2024 time slot as our guys didn't think they could fit us in during January.

But a last minute postponement of another job gave us the opening we need in the nick of time.,

It all began yesterday.

But first - the moving of ALL the stuff from the sewing room and hallway (including all of the inn's library books!) were moved into the dining room to get things out of the way.

The front hall is getting a new coat of finish too -

You can tell where the chairs wore away the finish before we changed out the wheels to these that are more hardwood friendly. (Affiliate) 

The wheels are holding up better than the chairs - we've had to replace a couple as they get a lot of sitting and sewing time.

We just pop the wheels off and stick them on the next chair - and all is well.

But yes, that finish needs refinishing!

Nearly done sanding on this side -

These original boards are chestnut - and when the sanding got down to the bare wood - what a wonderful fragrance!

Just getting started on this side.

This is how things were when I left yesterday afternoon around 2pm.

As of 6pm last night the guys were still at it - so I may find that they finished staining before they went home so that things could dry overnight before putting 2 heavy-duty coats of poly on top.

I told them I wanted it to take a beating like an old gym floor.

And we'll have about a week for the smell to ease before the February Quiltvillians show up next Wednesday afternoon.

The bronchitis is easing. Day 4 of antibiotics. I'll survive!

All orders that came in while I was gone have left the building -

I even hand quilted a bit last night - but hand quilting and NyQuil don't make for a lot of progress.

Still going through New Zealand photos - and will be for a while!

Kea are New Zealand’s alpine treasures. If you wanted the YouTube video I posted yesterday there was a section on the Kea and we were lucky enough for some close encounters.

Our driver and guide Justin had to shut the bus door because they are known to come right on inside and beg for snacks.

Everywhere you look - it's breathtaking.

Things on the to-do list today:

We had 2'' of snow overnight!  It would be perfect for photographing Winter Cardinal so I can get that pattern finished and ready for releasing on Feb 9th. Be watchin for it.

(Yes it will include Star of Hope as a free bonus.)

Desk time needs to happen - just to catch me up a bit more.

I also need to pull the quilts that are heading to the Quilter's Hall of Fame in Indiana for my exhibit - they need descriptions and sizes - I need to get that inventory listing and contract off to them ASAP.

(DESKWORK!)

I'd really like to get to the chiropractor this afternoon as all of that plane sitting and sleeping in different hotel beds has made me a bit out of whack.  I'm calling them as soon as I hit publish on this -

And of course I'm heading over to check on the floor progress.
