Gonna Need More Hexies!

Good morning, all -

It's Friday morning and 8:30am Phoenix time and all is still quiet here.

How is it that a body can still feel so tired after doing little more than watching TV all day?

This is just not my usual, and it throws me for a loop.

My ADHD is in hyper-drive and I'm doing all I can to just relax into the moment and go with the flow as the saying goes.

Dad is recovering from a bad cold that has laid him flat for a week.  I'm cutting him a great big break and he deserves it - he'll be 84 in February.  It takes longer to recover and aging is progressing as it will for all of us who are lucky enough to live long enough to experience it.

But for THIS go go go - gotta get it done - girl - it's HARD.

I did take a bit of a break yesterday and headed out for groceries and needed things while Dad was napping.

But other than that:

It's been this!

My butt has been on the couch for hours - just watching (More like listening) to whatever he wanted to put on.  News in the morning, several episodes of Amazing Race, a couple of movies, and winding up with CSI before I said it was bedtime for me.

It's good.  It's all good. I am here just to be with him.  I'm so grateful I'm here.

But I'm going to need more hexies! LOL!

I came with nearly 30 kits.

I've sewn my way through 7 of them.

I may have to take up crocheting dishcloths.

All kidding aside, I think that anyone who has had to slow down to just BE with aging parents or other loved ones gets this.

Maybe this is why there are numerous finished (or unfinished) yo-yo quilts out there.

Or embroidered pillow cases, tea towels, dresser scarves.

I used to wonder how some could do such intricate and fiddley things - and I'm beginning to get it.

Sometimes you just have to sit for hours and keep your hands busy.

It's not about accomplishing much - it's about having something that will take so long that you don't run out of something to do.

I'm gonna need more hexies.

I'm so glad I did this before coming:

Dad has 3 "traditional" table lamps in his living room, none which give off enough light or are situated near the end of the couch which is my "spot."

I love my slim line light that I currently use at home - but let's face it - it cost well over $100.00.

It's not dimmable - and there is no way to go from bright to warm.  It's either all on, or all off.

Because the Wio-Mio has a cover over the light bulbs, it is less glarey (Yes that is a word) than my slimline.

I love that I can adjust the light from warm to bright, and slide the control to dim or brighten.

And the price was right. So that's a definite win.

But the biggest win of all -

I'm here spending time with my dad.  I hear him stirring in his bedroom so breakfast will be underway shortly.

Will we leave the house today? I hope so - but it all depends on whether he feels up to it or not.

I plan to at least get out and take a walk through Sun Lakes today and get some fresh air.
