Merry Happy Christmas, from my family to yours!
Jeff arrived last night carrying armloads of boxes that had arrived via Amazon and wherever else presents come from.
He brought the Christmas cards and other mail. We stacked them in the corner near our little Charlie Brown tree and declared it a “brown box” Christmas after realizing that there was no wrapping paper up on the mountain.
But as we all know, the best gifts don’t come wrapped in pretty paper or tied up with festive ribbons and bows, the best gifts come from the heart.
And spending time together is the very best of all!
And yes, that includes father-son time in a cut-throat round of Super Mario. Thanks for the earworm guys!
And yes, we woke up to a White Christmas!

My favorite gift this year!
In the winter, when the sun comes over that ridge, it shines right into the dining area of the cabin where I usually sit with my laptop. And though I love the sun and sunrises, they send me to other corners to try to get my computer work done. The outdoor blind is transparent enough that I cam see through it so I don’t feel so closed off as I would if we put in vertical blinds over the sliding door inside. But it filters out that bright light so I can get my work done. And it rolls up and down easily. It was a thoughtful gift!
There has been time for stitching!
The pattern for the Dakota Farmer blocks are found in a 2013 Addicted to Scraps column with Quiltmaker Magazine. It’s about time these became a quilt!
I had enough to do 29 stars, using up the baggie of 348 bonus triangles. Even better than that, I found the source!
Jamie’s Carolina Christmas quilt!
She writes:
Hi Bonnie
While running thru your Facebook Posts, I came across the purple/black dot HSTs. What a Hoot! Those pieces came from my Carolina Christmas.
I took a class with you in Baton Rouge (Gulf States Quilting Association) back in 2010 and gifted the pieces then. I’ve been hooked on “all things Bonnie” for years, especially all your mysteries.
Sorry I don’t have any more of the black dots, I used up every little sliver in several projects over the years.
So happy to see photos of the source! But even more mind boggling is the fact that she gifted the bonus triangles to me in 2010??!? WHAT!? Oh goodness, the years sure speed up, don’t they? So happy to be actually working with these. And grateful to a couple of quilters who have found the matching black in their stashes and I have pieces and parts on the way to keep going. It takes a village!
There has been cookie baking!
These are our favorites – the soft ginger cookies that Jeff loves the best. Recipe from the recipes tab at the top of the blog. So simple, so good, and they stay soft.
There is loads of hand quilting time!
We started in on a Back to the Future Marathon last night after having exhausted our Christmas movie favorites. With temps in the 20’s I foresee a lot more stitching and watching time in my future.
Dinner will be a quiet affair with just the 3 of us. Christmas ham, baked sweet potatoes, salad and a few other fixings is going to be plenty for just the 3 of us.

And I’ve got all of the little bit more right here in front of me.
From my house to yours - Merry Christmas, everyone!

Bonnie, I hope you get plenty of relaxation during this so special holiday time. Enjoy your family time. Thanks so much for all the lessons you've taught me. As a side note, the other day I was explaining something to a beginner quilter and I caught myself saying, "according to Bonnie Hunter, this is a easier way to do it. " Merry Christmas to you and yours.

ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from my house to yours! We're also enjoying a white Christmas here in Southern Illinois!
What a wonderful time of year this is, family and friends gathering together sharing love and happiness. Good smells coming from the kitchen (love ginger snaps and will have to try that recipe). My Christmas wishes for everyone today, "Eat heart and healthy, play fair but play to win".
ReplyDeleteGot a winter wonderland happening outside and it's still coming down.
Best wishes ~ Brenda
Merry Christmas Bonnie! Thank you for all you do for us. We are so blessed to have you leading us in our scrap-ful journey. May 2018 bring you good health, much joy and hours of quilting pleasure.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Bonnie! Not much snow here in Alaska but plenty of cold. Just me and my husband here so we'll have a quiet day - with king crab legs for dinner! This evening we'll go to a friend's house for carol singing.
ReplyDeleteThere will likely be sewing today - at least finishing a binding. But I have to tell yoy I love the folded corner rulrt - whatever its real name is - my flying geese are much more accurate now!
Merry, merry Christmas to you and family! Woke up to a white Christmas, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from our family to yours! We wish you all good things in 2018!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! Love that Dakota Farmer block...Is it a 6" block?
ReplyDeleteNevermind Bonnie, Just found it in my binder! Thank you anyway!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a peaceful, happy Christmas. What a great place to be with your family to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Bonnie!
Merry Christmas, Bonnie & family. Looks like you got the snow we avoided this time around. The forecast kept saying we would get 1-3 inches today, but no sign of it yet. Janna C. said the weather in Montana today is frightful so it may be headed our way yet in the coming days. That's OK, I've been so busy getting ready for Christmas and wouldn't mind some time to just sew. Christmas leftovers means no cooking! :)
ReplyDeleteJust chimming in on your 'favorites' during quilt cam... our favorite Christmas watching movies are: 'Life of Brian', 'Christmas Vacation', 'Christmas Story', and the Hitchcock movies like 'North by Northwest', 'Dial M for Murder', and "Rear Window'. Must have foods are a lemon/lime jello concoction that has horseradish in it, Ham, home made pie (pumpkin or cherry), and either home made soft molasses/ginger cookies, Ferrero Rocher or Almond Roca. My mom use to make her own appletts and cottlets, Divinity, and peanut brittle. But, when I try to make these they just don't turn out as good as hers.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of old friends... If anyone knows how to get ahold of "Kathi" with the photo of the hubby hugging puppy, on Bonnie's October 6th post, I sure would appreciate you contacting me. I think her hubby may be a dear friend of ours from our Navy days, and we would love to get back in touch! Contact me at pmccartney1487@gmail.com. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAfter a long day and night, I finally got to read your Christmas post. Now I know how you got your mail from home. My package got there early. It wasn't scheduled to arrive until Tuesday. Glad it got there. I need a blind for my kitchen window for the same reason. Happy, restful Christmas at Quiltvilla. Hugs from snowy Walla Walla.
ReplyDeleteHappy Boxing Day from Winston Salem!
