We gathered in the beautiful town of Smyrna, Tennessee yesterday for a Boxy Stars 1/2 day workshop with the Friendship Quilt Guild and friends from surrounding states!
We were able to use the middle school library as our meeting place, and I think we ALL felt like we were going back in time when we took our places around library tables surrounded by stacks of books, student paraphernalia and artwork still on the walls from the school year just ended.
There was plenty of light for sewing, as there would be for reading and we had a great time stitching up blocks during the 4 hours of class time fun.
My friend Diane is the program person who pulled this together behind the scenes. I’ve stayed with her before, she is a partner in vintage sewing machine crime! She is the one that turned me on to hand crank machines and really got me into using my treadles instead of just using them for home decor.
What a slippery slope you have lead me down, Diane!
40 students sewing away!
These ladies were NOT using their library voices! LOL!
The irons were in the foyer!
Oh, goodness, aren’t these great?!
Several of our blocks laid out at the end of class!
You’ll find the rest of our photos in the fun slide show below. Enjoy!
Doesn’t this look like fun? You can find the free pattern for Boxy Stars under the free patterns tab at the top of the blog. Dig into the 2 1/2’’ strips and PLAY!
As I said about Diane being a great enabler? Did you see that Singer 15 with the star decals in the video?? Guess what is going home with me?
How could I resist?
It’s a 1941!
I love the black hand wheel.
Could you resist?!
I have never seen another machine with these decals "in the wild", only in books. This beauty is coming home.
Last night’s lecture in the OTHER middle school auditorium was also very well attended and we had a lot of fun. And the A/C worked! Best part of the day. LOL. It’s the little things!
Today we have Bricks in the Barnyard workshop from Scraps & Shirttails II up on deck, back in the library again. We will fill this day full with quilty fun, and tomorrow Irene and I head on a long drive to the cabin for 4th of July. I’ll be seeing Sadie by tomorrow night!

I hope you woke up smiling this morning. Have a lovely Saturday, everyone!
Well you turned me on to vintage machines Bonnie! And now I have 11. Have a safe trip home and give Sadie a hug for all of us. And relax and enjoy yourself.

Safe travels. Enjoy your 4th and take time for yourself. Sounds like you need a little " me" time. I have some planned for this weekend.

ReplyDeleteSo sad that I had to cancel coming today. my sick grandson needed me more than I needed to sew :/ I know you will all have a great time. Enjoy your 4th and time with Sadie and family.
ReplyDeleteThat Singer 15 is fantastic--you are so fortunate! It is all your fault that I have dozens of vintage machines in my home--THANK YOU!!! Always room for one more....

Hey Bonnie.... just wanted to tell you thank you for sharing all the class/photo's and all. You know you've got quilting talent. You have a talent for putting together the post's and the music too. I really enjoy checking out the posts from your blog. Thanks again for sharing all you do.
ReplyDeleteI love when you get a picture of all the blocks together. It is amazing how the alternate color placements make the blocks look so different. A beautiful block!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Woke up singing knowing I'd be sewing with a friend today. Look at you!!! All that boxy fun and a beautiful vintage 15 with THAT star decal on it!! Yippee!!!!! Safe travels to you and Irene going up to the cabin for Fourth of July fun. Hugs, Allison in Plano, TX USA
ReplyDeleteHad SEW much fun in class! Thank you for making my heart smile with a passion for making scrap quilts!
ReplyDeleteTaking note of the box sitting next to the vintage machine - Seagram's 7. LOL. I always find something to laugh at on your posts, Bonnie, and that is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteOh Boy! Your classes look like such fun and what beautiful work they do. Some day - when I'm good enough not to embarrass myself - I hope to take one of your classes. Happy 4th.
ReplyDeleteI love all your inspirational quotes, but today's was especially helpful.
Thanks so much for all you do.

I really enjoy seeing all the pictures showing all the different fabrics people use. Helps give an idea of what works and what doesn't work. It also gives an idea of what happens to the design when different fabrics are put together. I also love seeing the pictures of everyones blocks laid out together. I love scrappy quilts -- I think that is because I grew up sleeping under scrappy quilts. My dream is to sometime take one of your classes. In the meantime I learn and am inspired by your blog. ReplyDeleteIf that is the Miz Johnny and Di from TN that I know, they've both held machines for me. I've only had the quick pleasure of meeting Di. One day I'll get to attend her TOGA. Lovey machine you are taking home. Hope Sadie is doing better. I know she'll be super happy to see you (and you her, too).
