I get more excited about “Leap Day” than I do nearly every other holiday because it only comes around once every four years!
Come to think of it – some of those OTHER holidays like Christmas might mean that much more if they didn’t show up every single year leaving us feeling like we can’t get caught up between them coming around so quickly.
For me, this year Leap Day is extra special because I am home for it. It actually is a gift to me to be able to stay up here at the cabin for one more day, sewing my brains out.
Next year I will remember this free day, sigh, and count down that I will have THREE more years before a day like this will ever come my way again.
Sunshine & shadow on the mountain!
Glorious day!
We’ve enjoyed blue skies and sunshine and some walks. Sadie has had her nose not only to the ground sniffing all of the almost-spring smells out there, but also..
Head out of the window, driving down the road!
She gets GIDDY when we take her places and let her sniff the air with the window down. SO excited!
You can learn a lot from a dog. Her zest for the simple things in life just makes me smile, reminding me to take time to sniff the breeze and not to take things so seriously all the time.
Barn Quilt Sighting!
This photo was taken right at noon and the quilt is nearly in shadow, but it is a blue/red rail fence. Such a simple pattern. I really ought to make another in recycled fabric strips just to clear them out!
((Yes, my mind keeps going on like that with ideas all of the time!))
The babbling of a waterfall!
I love waterfalls so much! We found this one while driving around the countryside outside of Miller’s Creek, NC. It was a great spot to get out, stretch our legs and let Sadie run a bit.
Here’s a short video clip:
There has been loads of sewing going on at the cabin, but I’ll save that for another post. This one feels just right with only the beauty of nature to celebrate.
As the sun sets behind the west ridge.
Tomorrow morning I’ll head back down the mountain. I’m meeting a friend for lunch and then it’s time to start thinking of this trip to Cincinnati coming up. Packing the quilts and my suitcase so I will be ready to roll on the 4th.
So I’m thinking – how about Quilt-Cam on Wednesday evening again? That worked well last week and it will fit into my schedule just fine.
Be watching for updates, I’ll let you know for sure.
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Today is a gift, that's why we call it the present! What will you do with yours?
Vintage 1850s honeycomb triangle quilt found in North Carolina. Battered and shredded, it is still a testament of fine workmanship.
Have a lovely Leap Day, everyone!
Happy leao day to you too Bonnie.

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your "extra" day home and sewing! See you in Cincinnati!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your extra day and what a place to have it. It is truly beautiful where you are. My day is catch up because of a busy week, but I do want to get some blocks finished that I began on a quilt retreat to the 1890 House in Cedar Hill, Texas two weeks ago. Happy Leap Year!!
ReplyDeleteIt's true regret last forever! I just need to remember to let it go! Live in the present
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day to the fullest! Happy Leap Day!
ReplyDeleteI guess it's all a matter of perspective! For those of us "salaried" folks who get paid twice a month Leap Day is a gift to our employers - we get to work a whole extra day for free!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely. Spring is springing and it is so cheering AND a day "off" - or at least with minimal requirements. This week-end I was practicing hexies and have a question for you. How do you prepare your fabric? Do you cut squares and then trim off the extra? Do you have a template to cut them? I tried using a "go" machine to cut the fabric and it worked, well, but it does waste sooooo much fabric, my frugal side rebelled. Would love to know what you do.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Marne
32 years ago today around 9:00 pm I was in labor and worried that my son would be born on the 29th. Well, he held off until 7:12 am the next morning. I will always remember that. Although don't guess it would have been so bad to be born on the 29th!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got that extra day. They truly are such a gift! I love seeing your pictures of a warmer, greener climate even though we are experiencing warmer than normal temps here in Minnesota. And I especially love seeing Sadie pictures. Those canine friends are so precious. Looking forward to quilt cam!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed my real birthday as much as I did, I turned Sweet 16!!
ReplyDeleteFeb 29 is always special--a real birthday for me! I sewed, ate chocolate, went out to dinner, and made no decisions. We all need a break like that!! Sweet 16 it is!
ReplyDeleteTruly enjoy your musings. :-) I would love to know exactly where you discovered this M/C waterfall? I live there and like Sadie, our dogs would enjoy the smells. Safe travels, thanks for all you do in our quilting world. 😊
