Here we are! All of us…
What a group! And what a load of houses we created in our Happy Scrappy Houses workshop day.
The fabrics were so varied--
Some had even dug out the “architectural” type fabrics in the stash, the ones that looked like wood, or shingles, or stone walls, or bricks…thatched roofs, or fabric that closely resembled the red tile rooflines so often seen here in the southwest.
Fussy cuts in doors and windows, including ghosts, goblins and ghoulies as well as cute kitties, bumble bees…..and even a snake or two had found their way in.
Night skies or sunny skies. Even some cloudy and stormy skies, each house with its own personality.
Fun little city in the making!
Get creative! Our quilter here has added a barn, a mercantile, even a church!
Assembling roof sections!
We started out with the chimney section first. The danger zone: Seams that are too wide will give you a chimney section that is too small for the roof and the whole house is built on a shaky foundation from there!
**hint** Assemble a test chimney section to check your seam width. If you are following the free Happy Scrappy Houses pattern from the Free Patterns tab, this unit should measure 8” before sewing it into the quilt. Anything less needs fixing, and fast! Likewise, if it is too big….your chimney section won’t fit the rest of the house.
Night skies!
A whole housing development!

Happy Scrappy Houses, Chandler AZ 2015 |
It was such a great day yesterday that we are doing it again today – with a Cathedral Stars workshop! Those Nimble Thimble gals of Chandler, AZ are going to keep me busy and in stitches!
Have a great Friday, everyone!
Such clever uses of fabrics for the houses! Never know what you can find until you look.

Love them! Met and took a class from your friend, Mickey DePre today.. Great stuff1 Now I'm gonna add hexes to my addiction list! Guess what?!! I was gifted with a 1939 221-1 from a dear friend who was the original owner, and I received it for Christmas. It is in pretty great shape, just waiting to get a new belt. She was already clean, I oiled her, and am waiting on lube. Can't wait to sew on her!!!!! Mickey shared that you guys spoke this morning. Sounds like you're having a wonderful time in AZ. I can't reach my great friend who lives there, and am hoping she is in your class! Thanks, Bonnie! Barbara
ReplyDeleteI have a scrappy house question for Bonnie or whoever can answer it for me... why do the houses have two chimneys? Thanks.
