We had gathered up my bags, and headed out of the airport for a tour of the town, and it just started coming down….it’s not cold enough to stick, which is my favorite kind of snow of all….It turns the world into a beautiful snow globe, but it doesn't hinder my getting from place to place.
I have a feeling this is just a test, only a test, to get folks ready for what is REALLY going to come this winter.
Trees are wearing their very best yellow and are still quite full of leaves – I hear the Aspens in the mountains are in full glory ---I don’t know if we will get up that far during our trip, but we did have some time to do a bit of driving before time to check into the hotel arrived.
I’m brain dead enough this morning not to even remember where this was ----we had driven out here to go to lunch, but the place we had chosen was closed ---
So we headed out to where red rocks dominate the scenery ---where cliff dwellers made their homes thousands of years ago --
Where the entrance to Garden of the Gods catches your breath, and lets you know you are in a magical place.
See the snow coming down??
Oh, the air smells so wonderful out here!
I was told to stay well hydrated. Colorado Springs is higher in elevation than Denver, so even MORE than a mile up.
Doesn't this look like something out of a John Wayne western?
Even the view from the comfort of the front passenger seat through the window is jaw dropping!
Look at the top right of this photo…do you see the two kissing camels?
And just where you think the terrain is all red rock ---pillars of grey slate join in to create a rich contrast.
Just Rugged!
Such a difference from the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina!
Good Morning, Colorado!
I’m excited about today’s morning presentation with the PIecing Partners of Colorado Springs, and to meet those who are also traveling in to say hello. My lecture this morning is on String Quilting – so I’ve got 100lbs of String quilts with me to share ---this afternoon we follow up with a 1/2 day Scrappy Trips workshop that promises to be a lot of fun.
Have a great Wednesday everyone ---take a look around you, and the world you live in, and find something awe-inspiring!
it is beautiful - too early for snow though isn't it! see you just have a light sweater on :) hope it warms up, I was just in that area 2 years ago and love it.
ReplyDeleteenjoy your stay!! it really is an awesome place to visit! hmmmm a hundred pounds of quilts! wish I was there---see you soon *~*CAROLE*~*
ReplyDeleteYes, Colorado Springs is over 6,000 feet up in elevation. Denver is 5,280 feet up! Denver is called te Mile High City. And yes, please drink a lot of water. A lot of water. We live at a higher altitude, have lived in Colorado for over 25 years, and still drink a lot of water due to higher altitude. You acclimate but it can take a while, a few days, for some to do so. Hopefully you'll be fine! And you saw Garden of the Gods! Always so beautiful no matter what time of year it is. Enjoy your stay!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery, thanks for sharing your sites with us, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWe love Colorado. Such beautiful scenery, but I've never been east of the Mississippi. That's on my to do list.

ReplyDeleteMy husband grew up in Denver and he remembers snow in May and before Halloween! (This is why we *don't* live in Denver now. Snow ... brr!)
ReplyDeleteColorado Springs is one of my favorite places! My brother lives south of Denver. The Cog Train to the top of Pike's Peak is breathtaking!

ReplyDeleteLove the "new" mountains of the western United States! The "old" mountains back east have had time to erode a bit and have a softer silhouette. But I have seen some rugged mountains in West Virginia! Have a blast in Colorado...I know all the ladies taking your classes will be having the very best time!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie just saw your pixs one of them said looks like something out of a John Wayne Movie . Thought you would like to know IT IS he did a lot of his filming their. Enjoy your trip. Peg
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your stay in Colo Springs. Did you happen to see all the snow on Pikes Peak today? From Woodland Park it looked quite breathtaking. I see you enjoyed some of the sites, good for you! Yes, drink lots of water and if you get a headache, it may be due to the altitude. Come back and see us again sometime. :-)
