Kiss in the Corner!

My love of antique quilts drives me! Especially on-point-ones in Pennsylvania Dutch colors like this:

padutchshoofly1

And soft pastel deliciousness like this one!

pinkwhiteshoofly

I just LOVED the large chunky cornerstones in this pink/white version and that is what inspired me to play with this setting.

Because I work with scraps, it is ALWAYS difficult for me to tell you how many yards of this-or-that you might need, because I just dig. And I cut. And I sew, and if I run out of something, I grab another piece. Often times yardage is hard to calculate because I might only use a 2 1/2” square of something…and just ONE of that is in my quilt, and to tell you to buy yardage for one 2 1/2” square is just silly. SO….work with what you have, if you run short, buy some more!

If you have approximately 2 yards of neutrals, 2 yards of scrappy colors, and 2 yards (8 FQs) of yellows, you should be good to go!

Kiss In The Corner!

Block size: 4.5"

Quilt size: Approx. 60" X 67"

Shoo Fly Blocks! What is not to like about them?

This quilt starts with bonus half square triangles! You know, the kind you get when you are doing that snowball-techique where you put a smaller square in the corner of a larger square and sew on the diagonal? I save those, double sewing them with a scant 3/8” seam between the two seam lines and square them to the best measurement I can get out of them, always aiming for something that gives me a usable measurement to work with. I have BOXES that have been square-able to 2” and that is what I used here!

kissinthecorner 013

You will need 288 half square triangles that measure 2”, and they will finish into the quilt at 1-1/2”. They are the same size as the triangles in Roll Roll Cotton Boll! If you don’t have a stash of half square triangles of this size, you can use your Easy Angle Ruler and 2” strips to make them:

kissinthecorner 003

Match the strips with right sides together, and use the 2” marking on the ruler to cut 288 matched pairs. Stitch up into 288 half square triangle units. Feel free to use ANY method that will give you the number of half square triangles required!

kissinthecorner 014

Next Step! Sew a bunch of 2” scrap fabrics ((Mine are all recycled from clothing!)) between two 2” strips of chrome yellow. Press seams toward the yellow. We will be cutting “three-sie” units from these, as if we were sewing 9 patches:

kissinthecorner 015 kissinthecorner 018

Slice the strip panels into 2” sub-sections. You will need 72 of these three-sies! And while you are at it, cut 144 2” yellow squares to go with them!

kissinthecorner 019

Add a triangle unit to the end of each yellow square as shown! Press seams toward the yellow! Make 144.

kissinthecorner 025

Combine the triangle units and the three-sie units to make 72 adorable Shoo-Fly blocks as shown! These should measure 5” and finish at 4.5” when sewn into the quilt.

Pieced Sashings:

It’s the pieced sashings that add those cute wonky friendship star units to the quilt layout!

kissinthecorner 027 kissinthecorner 028

Piece a bunch more strip sets from 2” strips, with colors in the center, flanked by two neutral strips on either side. You need 168 2" sub-cuts for the sashings. Press seams toward the neutral strips.

kissinthecorner 029

I really loved using these fabrics together! Using recycled fabrics along with the regular quilt stash just adds such a softness, giving you an instantly vintage looking quilt!

Let’s put the “Kiss” in the “Corner!”

For this step I grabbed my trusty box of 1.5” scrap squares. This is the smallest size of scrap that I cut to any specific size, and I use these quite a bit! If you are cutting from 1.5” strips, or cutting individual 1.5” squares, you will need TWO squares for each sashing, or 336 1.5” squares.

I started out just pulling the recycled fabric ones, but as I went I found that there were other colors and fabrics that I wanted to throw in to make these little stars sing.

What I really LIKE about using these small squares, is that we won’t have any corners to match when we sew the quilt together. They will float a bit, surrounding the star within the neutral areas!

kissinthecorner 032 kissinthecorner 033

kissinthecorner 021

Start by laying a 1.5” square in the upper right corner of the three-sie unit as shown. Stitch across the red square, from corner to corner on the diagonal. Fold the red square back against the corner to check that it matches the edges of the neutral square. Trim excess approximately 1/4” beyond the stitching and press. Repeat for the opposite corner at the bottom left of the unit.

kissinthecorner 034

Make 168 pieced sashing units. *Note* all of your units must be identical to each other in placement of the two corner triangle “Kisses”!

Setting Triangles & Cornerstones:

From yellow prints cut:

Cut (59) 2” squares of various yellows for cornerstones.

(6) 7 5/8” Squares. Cut each square from corner to corner twice with an X to yield 24 setting triangles. 22 will be used in the quilt, 2 will be extra.

(2) 4 1/8” Squares. Cut each square from corner to corner once to yield 4 corner triangles.

(7) 3 1/4” Squares. Cut each square from corner to corner twice with an X to yield 28 small setting triangles. 26 will be used in the quilt, 2 will be extra.

*Note* If you have the companion angle ruler, these small setting triangles, which go on the end of the sashing rows at the edges of the quilt, can be cut from 1.5” strips as shown:

kissinthecorner 022

I like using my specialty rulers when I can!

Layout:

This part becomes a design wall/floor process! I want to make sure that the colors fall where I want them to, so I lay out the WHOLE QUILT so I can rearrange blocks and sashings as needed:

kissinthecornerfull2

Lay out the Shoofly blocks, leaving room for the sashings and cornerstones in between. Layout the yellow cornerstones where the triangles in the sashing meet to form the friendship star design. Finally, place the setting triangles, Large and small where they go, and then the corners.

kissinthecorner 046

Diagonal quilts are sewn in rows, starting in one corner, and working toward the center of the quilt with each row increasing in length. Stitch the quilt center into rows, and join the rows to complete quilt center. I like to piece the top in two halves, and then join the two halves together. This helps distribute much of the bulk as the quilt halves grow! Press well.

kissinthecorner 053

Using a large ruler with a good 1/4” marking, trim up the edges of the quilt with the edge falling 1/4” past all block corners. This helps get rid of dog ears, etc. Stay stitch around the edge of quilt if desired, about 1/8” from the edge.

Borders:

Inner border:

From random 1.5” wide red strips—Join lengths together on the diagonal to reach a border length of approximately 260” Trim excess 1/4” beyond the stitching and press seams open.

Outer Border:

From random 3.5” wide blue strips and rectangles –join lengths together on the “straight” by butting the ends and stitching to reach a border length of approximately 260”. Press seams open.

Stitch narrow red inner border to outer blue border with right sides together. Press seam toward the red inner border.

Lay the quilt center out on the floor, smoothing it gently. Do not tug or pull. Measure the quilt through the center from top to bottom. Cut two side borders this length. Measure the quilt from side to side across the center. Cut two side borders this length.

Stitch side borders to quilt, pinning center and ends and easing where necessary to fit. Press seams toward inner border.

Cut (4) 4.5” Squares from blue for border corners. Add a border corner square to each end of both top and bottom borders. Press seam toward the borders. Attach top and bottom borders to quilt, pinning to match centers and ends and easing where necessary to fit. Press seams toward inner border.

QUILTING!!

I quilted Kiss in The Corner with an edge to edge design by Hermione Agee of Lorien Quilting called Country Garden! I love the leaves and swirls and circles in this design! I used a sandy tan colored thread, and bound the quilt with lengths of 2.5” blue strips joined on the diagonal. That red fabric with the circles? It was a pair of capris! The blue corner square was one of my own blouses. Loved that print!

kissinthecorner 014

This light blue fabric was also a blouse of mine…next to it the dark blue paisley? That was one of those jumpers I had years ago…the ones that made us all look like school teachers? LOL! And next to it..that red leafy paisley? Another pair of capris! I’ve loved working with these recycled bits, every one!

Is there such a thing as too much yellow? I don’t think so! Sun

  4. This is a terrific scrap user--another winner from your amazing brain, Bonnie! I would be thrilled to win a signed copy of your book.

My favorite quilt I ever made was a Bowtie quilt I designed and made for my brother for his 50th birthday a few months ago. It was scrappy, of course, with a lot of fabrics from my scrap bins and stash. I was especially happy with the checkerboard borders I added, all from 2" scraps and squares.

  5. Hi Bonnie and friends! My most favorite quilt is usually the one I am working on. Right now it is Roll Roll Cotton Boll. Next week it will be my daughter's wedding ring star. I just really enjoy the process!

  20. What a fab quilt - it makes me want to start digging in my scrap stash right now, instead of getting breakfast for the family!

My favourite ever quilt was a scrappy appliqued hearts, hugs and kisses design that I made when my daughter was a tiny baby.

  21. Wow, I love this quilt! Always wanted to do a quilt with blues and yellow! So great! My favourite quilt so far is probably the butterflyquilt I made. It just makes my heart sing when I look at it.

  22. Love the quilt!

I would have to say my favorite quilt was the one I made my mother a year ago. We were visiting my LQS and she fell in love with a shop sample. I went back and got it with the intention of making it for her next birthday. I missed that birthday, but I got it done for her 70th. She slept under that quilt until she passed away a few weeks later.

  25. My favorite quilt is a scrappy sampler with a black background - assorted sizes in a grid rather than row by row same size blocks.

When I showed it to my aunt and explained the "sampler" concept she replied, "Oh, it's a hodgepodge." So I named my quilt 'Not JUST a Hodgepodge' in memory of the visit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think my favorite quilt is one of the earliest ones that I made. It was a graduation quilt and was a sampler made with a lot of novelty prints that meant something about my daughters life. She graduated from high school in 2000, and the back of the quilt was made with 10' squares of millennium fabric.

That favorite quilt I ever made? :^{ Will be given away! Christmas Lights, so I have to make anonther one! Have yet to think about "my" colors, so DH will love it too! His are ocre and dusty red, mine are purple and fiery red.
Work to do! Have a nice and safe trip tomorrow!

  31. OMGsh! I really love this pattern, too! I can't wait to get started on so many of your patterns and this is no exception - to be honest, too much yellow for me, but any other color would substitute there -- I'm originally from the Pocono Mtns of PA (not far from Hershey), so I was of course thinking Hershey Kisses (silver wrapper, white paper w/ blue print and yummy chocolate inside)!

Any way, my favorite quilt that I've made is a scrappy red, white and blue Star & Hourglass quilt called "Coming Home" in honor of my husband's military service. It was my first scrappy quilting experience and I loved it!

  32. Looks like I need to build my stash of yellows! Great quilt Bonnie as with all of your quilts. I think that my favorite quilt that I have made so far is Cathedral Stars. 41. Hi, Bonnie! Thanks so much for the free pattern and for the trunk show over on Stash Manicure! I loved seeing the pictures of from your new book and Oh, I'd love to win a copy of "Scraps and Shirttales II"!

Tell you something about a favorite quilt I made...? Well, fav is a blue and white Ocean Waves quilt I made in 2008. I was not feeling well at all when I quilted it, and was sort of hanging over the machine fighting nausea, but wanting to finish it. And the feeling when I could wrap it around me and crawl up on the sofa with a mug of tea was priceless! And it is probably the quilt I have made that is used the most.

Oh, and one of my Dad's favorite shirts is in the poinsetta stars in my version of your Carolina Christmas quilt ;o) (it's basted, but still needs to be quilted).

  42. My favorite quilt - 54/40 or Fight (triangle in a Square Stars)- I have made several of these. If I am unable to pick a pattern I usually will make up this quilt. Mostly I am drawn to the older patterns - 54/40, Dresden Plate, Double Wedding Ring, Grandmothers Flower Garden, and the scrappy 9-patch. And all of them work great with scraps.
These days I make Triangle in a square blocks as Leaders and Enders, I just sew them in groups of four every time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. One of the favourite quilts I've made was a group effort. Nine of us each made one block when we met at a bi-monthly group. The blocks were all shuffled in a carrier bag and one pulled out and that person gets to take all the blocks home and make the quilt. The star blocks we made were all pink and I set them on point on a black background and quilted stars with pink thread. Simple but a favourite!

My job was to take off the buttons and sort them into the many containers she had - I luckily have most of them now. 69. As with children, can't own up to having a favorite quilt. However, my favorite recycled fabric quilt was the one I made using father in law's necktie and shirt scraps as a memory quilt for my mother in law after he passed. 70. My favorite quilt? Probably the one I'm working on at the moment... *lol* I've not been quilting long and while most of the completed quilts have been the "buy all the fabrics" type, scrappy quilts fascinate me. I'm looking forward to making more of those... once I build my scrap collection sufficiently!

    Great work.

  73. It would be so hard to pick a favourite! One of my top picks would be my apple core quilt. I think it may have been the first quilt that I hand-pieced. It is a charm quilt, so every piece is a different fabric. I hand-quilted it with some wool batting. This batting was really an unknown from a mill store, bad stuff, so when I washed it it turned into a big bearded mess! I ended up frogging it and requilting it...hence the name "twice as nice"!

Another favourite is your Carolina Crossroads! It is in the main room and seems to be a real "go-to" quilt when someone is ready to curl up and watch tv!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thankyou so much for the bonus pattern! My favorite quilt ever is my Old Tobacco Road made from your mystery, but I stuffed up the coloring and rather than unpick it I ran with it, changed the bricks to squares, and I just love it, we sleep under it on our bed every night!

  76. Your quilts are so inspiring! I am SO enjoying RRCB!!! The quilt I made that has become my favorite is actually of the art quilt type. It's a 3-D poppy, made from a photo of one that grew in my garden when we lived in NW Ohio. I had the privilege of being documented in the Alliance for American Quilts Save our Stories project and have this quilt photographed there with me, so I'm pleased that it can be shared with others.

  77. My MOST favorite quilt that I've made is a baby quilt. Someone sent me a box chuck-a-lucka full of 1 1/2" strips, old and frayed and scrunched up. I lovingly pressed them all out and made a beautiful baby quilt from them. I just saw the quilt last month and it has weathered it's first year well!! My instructions, when I gift a quilt, are to USE IT! I make my quilts to be used.

  78. Although it's hard to choose, I think my favorite quilt that I have made is the Scrappy Sampler quilt I made for my oldest son for his H.S. graduation. He chose the focus fabric and I went from there. Turned out great!

Love your "Kiss in the Corner" quilt. Blue and yellow were my wedding colors. Thanks again for sharing your creativity.

  80. My most favorite quilt was a BOM from Moda University. It is my favorite because it was one of my first machine quilted quilts. It took me forever and several times I wanted to throw it away but it turned out really nice and now I love it!

  81. Hi Bonnie looking forward to the new quilt design. I must tell you until I found you about a year ago I was not into scrappy quilts and now I just love them. I am in the process of doing "Roll, Roll Cotton Boll' and having so much fun with it that I would say it is my favorite at this time. Thanks for all you have done and opening my eyes with your gorgeous quilts. I would love to receive your book and look forward to many more....thanks Sharon

  82. One of the nicest things you do is share your patterns, then, you go one stem farther and include the "printer friendly" copies! I've just added "Kiss the Corners" to my "to do" list. Love you! I love the way you inspire me! Would also love a signed copy of you book!

  83. My favorite quilt? In all honesty it would have to be the one I made based on your String Quilt Primer directions back in 2008. I was under a tremendous amount of stress that fall and winter and knew quilting would be the only way I could get through it. I started sewing the string blocks at random not knowing what I was going to do with them - I just had to SEW. As I kept going, the thought came to me, "These blocks look like a variation on a Crazy Quilt." and then it hit me, "No! These aren't Crazy Quilt blocks! They are SANITY QUILT blocks!!" And thus my new quilt project was born and completed and it graces our bed to this day. It also gave birth to the name of my quilt blog. So, although I have many, many favorites, the quilt I feel the most emotional attachment to is the one that helped me keep my sanity and it was created from you String Quilt Primer. I absolutely LOVE all of your creative works :)

  85. Thank you so much for sharing this fabulous quilt. There's a Salvation Army store a block away, and I must begin weekly visits! My favorite quilt I made years ago--it was pieced and appliqued large butterfly blocks which I did quilt as you go--and go it did--traveling and moving with me from Alabama to California and all the way to Belgium before I finished it and sent it to my mother in Ohio.

  88. Oh I have been so excited about this quilt coming out today! I love scrap quilts and your designs remind me so much of my great grandmother's quilting. I never met her but I am currently hand quilting one of her tops for my mother. She just used what she had, and if she ran out of a fabric she jus threw something else in there. Nothing was matchy/matchy!!

  89. I love traditional blocks made with fabric that enchances the design rather than muddles all together. I love log cabins...the scrappier the better

  90. My very first large quilt was a double wedding ring that had a star in the middle of each ring. It was hard but turned out beautiful. But the reason I loved it the most was because it was for my sister and quilted by: my mom, dad, grandmother, sister, husband, and daughter. This is a quilt she said she would treasure forever. Thanks again Bonnie for your wonderful quilt design.

  102. It's not the quilts themselves that are my favorites it's the memories that they bring to mind as I think about each and every one of them.

Bonnie, your site and your quilts have given me a great appreciation for scrap quilts. RRCB was the very first mystery that I participated in that I actually like! I plan to make a coupe of your prior mysteries and some of your other patterns. Small pieces and challenging = LOVE IT!!!

  103. I participated in the Orange Crush Mystery Quilt several years ago. Instead of using your color choices, I dove into a huge collection of chocolate browns I had accumulated. I was very skeptical that my color choice would work out, but I wound up being THRILLED with the result! To the browns I added minty greens and confectionery pinks - the quilt looks like a tray of designer chocolates! The whole process gave me a lot more confidence my ability to choose and mix colors in a quilt...and I thank you for that!!

  104. My fav quilt is always the one I'm working on. RRCB is turning out lovely. I'm working on the border which is my first pieced border. Thanks to you and the mystery probably my prettiest quilt. Still working on the double delight. It needs a border. Shirley

  116. If I looked at that quilt and not the directions, I would never think I could make it. But your directions are step by step and make it seem so much easier than it first appears. Thank you for that. Now I can look at it and think, "This is doable". I am in the process of making a quilt for each of my children and my grandchildren. As I make each one I am constantly thinking of that person so each one is my favorite as I make it because it makes me feel close to the person I am making it for. Thank you for all you do Bonnie.

  117. My favorite is the first quilt I made for my middle son. He bought himself a queen size bed and bemoaned the fact that he could no longer sleep under it, as he had EVERY NIGHT for about 5 yrs. He was in his mid 20's at the time.

  119. It's a really hard decision to make. It's like someone asking me to choose which child or grandchild is my favorite. I like all the quilts I have made. If I have to choose a favorite I guess it would be the first one I made. That was over 15 years ago. It is a scrappy basket quilt that I hand quilted. It took me what seemed like forever to finish it. It's a nice size for napping and lives on the back of a chair in our family room.
I also want to thank you for being so generous in sharing your quilt patterns with us.

  125. My favorite quilt is the first one I made ... a log cabin quilt done in a barn-raising setting ... for my daughter when she was 6 1/2. I started that a Saturday night in February, 1982. I intended to work until bedtime but I fell in love with the process of cutting and piecing so much that I stayed up all night to work on that quilt. It's now been so loved and so used that it's almost worn out ... but I make my quilts to be used and loved so that quilt has achieved its purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Bonnie, I love this pattern! And am hoping to get this one in the queue sometime this year. Picking a favorite quilt is so tough, but I'd have to pick two - one is my daughter's college quilt done in cool jewel tones with a 5 foot dolphin appliqued on it (Karen Brow's pattern), or my dad and stepmom's saw tooth star quilt made out of the leftovers from pillowcases that I sewed for all the members of our family for one Holden Beach Reunion.

  136. Hi! I told you about the favorite quilt I made in 2010 on the Stash Manicure blog, and I wanted to share my other self-designed quilt on this one. (Does it count, though, if it's only half-wayfinished?) I appliqued a center panel that features a French medieval couple, which a I adapted from a 12th-century illumination. A metallic gold border frames this panel. Above and below it are panels featuring the coat of arms for my husband's and my family names (both British in origin). The corners and sides of the quilt feature cross blocks in a neat medieval-type pattern. It's all taking far longer than I thought it would because I decided it would be wonderful to work it up in stained-glass style. Egads!!! There are miles and miles of "leading" to sew on! I get sick of it after a while and have to put it away to work on something else, but boy, am I going to LOVE it when it's finally finished!

I am amazed at your talent with scraps, and can't wait to work up some of your designs with the growing stash of little pieces that I've never been able to toss out. I'm very glad now that I'm a hoarder of left-overs that others have always scoffed at me for keeping! heee - won't they be jealous? ;D

My favorite quilt has got to be the one I helped my then 8 year old granddaughter do for her soon to arrive baby sister.
It was completely sewn on her new "Barbie" sewing machine! Talk about a learning experience for Grandma! She was so danged proud of it and it is used daily! It was nothing spetacular, just a large Friendship Star and the fabrics were kind of washed out, but she picked every one of them by herself. They were "her" colors at the time. :-)

  141. I already replied over on Stash Manicure- my fav quilt is the one I gave my husband. So how about my second favorite quilt? It's basically a giant log cabin in bright colors- it's on my side of the bed in winter, and spring and fall i take it everywhere (the park, school, you name it) because I never know when I'll end up being chilly, and at 52" square, this one is big enough to keep me warm but small enough to be portable. Thanks for yet another pattern, but now I have more temptation (oh, darn).

  142. That is, usual :)an awesome looking quilt. You are one talented woman!!! Thank you for sharing with us. My favourite quilt is one I made about eight years ago. I was recovering from carpel tunnel operations on both my hands, when I decided to design a foundation pieced wall hanging for my partner. I taught myself how to foundation piece, then designed and made it. It took a long time, as I did not have a lot of coordination in my hands and I had to rest them. The look on my partner's face made me feel like a world famous quilter. That was the first of many quilts I've made for my partner and definitely the most special. It still hangs in the lounge and is loved by both of us as much as the day it was created.

Bonnie, I'm a fairly new quilter, so most of my quilts are 'trial & error' learning quilts. I love the one I'm working on! My two favorites are both Mystery Quilts - one I did by hand and still is only the top, and the other was a Mystery Quilt done at a 4 day camp the first year I started quilting. It was a WOW, I REALLY DID THAT! type of pattern - I would never had chosen it if I saw how it ended up.

  144. After discovering your site and doing RRCB...I have decided to make my stash go down and make everyone quilts for Christmas this year (good thing I came up with idea in January :0)

Also, my two youngest sons are in the Air Force and Army. They have strict orders not to throw away old uniforms! I plan on making a quilt with them some day.

My favorite quilt is a 9 patch I made for my 97 year old Gramma before she passed away. She couldn't see well so she hugged and fellt the quilt.

  146. Hi Bonnie, love your new book; can't wait to get a copy. I have your first book. I just love all of the scrappy quilts. Always liked the idea of using up all the little leftovers from sewing projects.

My favorite quilt is the one I made with leftover scraps from a little dress when my daughter was 2 or three years old [cotton fabric was 4 yards for a dollar] 30 years ago. At that time, there were no rotary cutters; each piece was cut out separately. But I love recycling fabric then.

Love your website & blog. Congrats on your new book...keep them coming.

  163. Another great scrap quilt Bonnie (how do you keep coming up with them all?)!

Hmmm, hard to pick a favorite but I'd have to say in the Stash Manicure/Scraps and Shirtails vein it would be the first flannel quilt I made with Kansas Troubles blocks made from plaid Garment Center sample throwaways that my DH got for me. That started a snuggly love of flannel quilts.

Would love to win the new book (to add to the other two) but I'll still be buying it if I don't!

It is SO fun to see what all the little "peaks" you have given over the last while have turned into...I totally remember thinking that triangle border was insane and there is NO WAY I would make it. Well you have me thinking that I just might have to make it...triangles or not...After RRCB, I vowed NO MORE STRINGS...well, again after seeing the quilt. You have me thinking I might have to. Cudos to you. I am sure your book will be a success.

  171. You can bet that I will be on the look-out at all the neat places you mention, for good cotton items to be used for my scrappy quilts.
I would love to win a copy of your new book or any of your books,
    Please, please pick me!

  173. My favorite is a version of a ribbon twist. I love, love your blog and the concept of leaders-and-enders. Most of the time my l&e are two different quilts, but I'm starting to have enough scraps to start a scrap quilt. I just have to pick the perfect one from your site...or the new book! :)

  174. Hi Bonnie, You are my inspiration. I am known as the "Scrap Queen" in my small, informal quilt group. Most of my friends save all their scraps for me but now some are starting to realize they can save their own scraps and get large quilts made from the scraps. I would love to be the chosen to have a signed copy of your new book. As for my favorite quilt I really don't have one but if the quilt is made of scraps that is usually my favorite until I make a new scrappy quilt. Thanks for the giveaway!!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to receive one of your books. My favorite quilt has to be a scrappy 9 patch/ hourglass with an appliqued border and hand quilted. I must thank you for finally finding a way to use scraps from years of working at a quilt shop , making scrub tops for daughter and pjs for grankids. I seemed to have novelty fabric coming out my ears. Now you have shown me to look at the color and not the design. I have Betty boop eyes in the latest RRCB. Thanks again Ceil in Florida

  177. Bonnie,

My favorite quilt is from your Crayon Box pattern. It's what got me started quilting! I made it for my husband to replace an old, tattered quilt made by his great-grandmother. I see another pattern in the new book I want to make. Maybe a new favorite!

Thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration!

  178. My favorite quilt is always the one I just finished. In this case a quilt for my little great nephew. One of my favorite patterns that I want to do is your pineapple blossom quilt. I love how it is formed. You are such an inspiration. I love your tutorials. Always so clear. Great job, girl.

  183. I love this quilt. All the action that is going on in it. My favorite quilt seems to be the one that I am currently working on. As soon as I get that one done, I am off to another one, and it becomes "my favorite". Silly answer, but true! I am going to print off the directions and then try to figure out a way to cut the components of this quilt as I work on other tops!! Thank you for another GREAT pattern!!

I think my favorite quilt i ever made was for my dad. I used your Bargin Basement pattern and added pictures of my sister and I on fabric. It was a beautiful quilt and he loved it!

  185. My favorite quilt is a spider web scrap quilt that I just finished. It has pieces of most of my other projects, and the back is scraps of flannel given to me by my friend.

  186. Bonnie, you never cease to amaze me. I love how EVERY single time I see the close ups of your blocks-in-progress, I'm always a bit taken aback by how bizarre some of the fabrics are, and then EVERY time I see the finished quilt, I'm amazed (but really not surprised at all) that it all ends up looking super fantastic! Love this one's illusion of circles.

  187. I'm so far behind on Cotton Boll I'll just have to print this one and save it for a rainy scrappy day! Thanks, Bonnie

  188. What a gorgeous quilt! Can't wait to see the new book. Usually the quilt I'm working on is my favorite. Some of my antique quilts that family members made are also favorites. Dori

  189. My favorite quilt is probably the one I made for my Dad years ago. Although, the Maxine quilt I just made for my Mother is extremely close behind.

  190. Bonnie - I love it! Have to see if I can start collecting some yellows, not a fav or mine, but you might be changing that! Kathy O

  191. My favorite quilt that I have made may just be one of the first--your Sister's Choice. Thanks for all the patterns and help you give everyone.

  192. I don't have a favorite quilt, I have several! One that I really like is made from fabric I was told wouldn't work for Stack-N-Whack. I loved the fabric and tried it anyway. I love the way it turned out. I have two quilts that are made with scrappy blocks swapped with friends. Those are very special quilts also. Thanks for the pattern and for the opportunity to win your new book!

  194. Another winner quilt!!! I don't know where you find all the time to produce so many but am really, really glad that you do. I'm saving the pattern (with many others) until I complete my current project.

I gave my version of Carolina Christmas (called it Carolina Sunshine) to my DIL. She loves it and I love the smile on her face.

  195. Newbie here - not got a finished quilt yet, but an almost finished wallhanging - love the colors in it.

  196. My favorite quilt that I have made is probably a winter applique quilt because it was the first quilt that I ever made. I love quilting. I have enjoyed the mystery quilts that you share every year.

  197. So excited about saving this pattern!

Working on my favorite quilt now. My sister-in-law in Missouri wanted to visit during my surgery 2 years ago, but couldn't. She sent me a bundle of fat quarters to veer me up, but, with the nature of the surgery, I couldn't wash & cut the fabric. Life has been crazy of late, but working on my Missouri scrap quilt has kept me sane during these tough financial times. I feel surrounded by her love.

Thank YOU, Bonnir, for keeping us motivated. I'm expecting my Leaders & Enders book to arrive in the mail today :)

  198. Love this!! I'm going out on a yellow scavenger hunt today. Just the thing to brighten up a dreary, snowy day. Thanks for the pattern and that lovely book!!

  199. My favorite quilt is a churn dash quilt. Sometimes simple is better...just love that old-fashioned block.

  200. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful quilt!! I am currently putting the blocks together (finally!) for Double Delight, and am really enjoying the process. My all time favorite quilt that I made would be one for my son when he was small--each block represents something he loved, from his favorite stuffed bunny to Jeff Gordon's race car to his dog. I love the memories that it brings back of a time that went by all too quickly! The quilts in your new book are beautiful!!
