Leader Ender Trees & Ebay find..

I found this cutter piece on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I love the pattern, the setting, the colors, the fabrics! I couldn't stand the thought of someone else buying it and cutting it up farther!

I've trimmed it, and added a binding. I'll hand stitch that while on my trip to MD next week. I'm planning on just using it as a table-topper or other display piece. It is DIRTY. I'll probably gently soak it to see what I can get out of it after it is bound..

And because I love cheddar/gold so much I was drawn to the same color for my leader/ender trees blocks. However...I'm not sure if I like the effect? Maybe I should do them in a "zig zag" layout like the cutter piece I just bought? Maybe the color isn't deep enough as far as setting squares go? Light fabrics make it look washed out...just as in the pic of the blocks laid out on the carpet. I thought the gold was a good choice..but now I'm not so sure.

I only have 25 blocks. I don't want to make more, I'd rather start on a different leader/ender project!

Let me know what you think....

Ohh goodness, I cannot believe you bought that quilt. I saw that and said, "that's a Bonnie quilt, let me get a picture." And it would not let me. I am glad you are giving it a good home.

Regarding the gold, ummm, not my first choice. What about a blue. I probably have 1 that would work if you'd like to drop by.

The gold is too strong, I think. Maybe a soft blue?

Thats funny,I was just thinking a light blue myself for the trees. I think the chedder out weights the trees and that is all you see. Just my thoughts. Another thought maybe a lighter gold with a bit of a print to it, more like an autum orange.

I would probably have gone with a medium green for the setting squares, but now really like the gold.

I don't love the gold. I might try blue, a deep red, or an olive green.

I am not crazy about the gold, my first instinct is a medium blue, like the sky on a beautiful day.. not too light though:)

I like the trees, but they get lost with gold squares. The carpet beige is too washed out. Like the other commenters, I think a less saturted green or blue might be nice. Maybe audition some more options from your stash? :-) Ohhh, all those little bitty squares, mmm-hmm!

What about a warm, deep red?

Blue was my first thought too even before I read the other comments. L

I think the gold is too strong and the carpet too washed out too :-). The gold makes the trees fade right out. My first reaction (before I read all the other comments) was a medium green, but looking at it some more, what would a nice light warm brown with a little texture in it do to it?

How about a blue with a small gold border and then more blue for the outer border?

Wow, they definitely don't like the cheddar Bonnie! I'd have to try the blue or green suggestions, but i'm all for the streak of lightning setting rather than the alternate squares. I think there's just too Much colour in one hit, and the other setting would dilute it a bit.

I would have said the gold was a perfect choice too, but your right, looking at it, it almost seems to be lacking something. But I"m not sure what it needs. How would it look with the gold setting squares but then use red or blue setting triangles? Wonder if that would change the look any?

To me, the thing it seems to be lacking is the border. Maybe that would pull the chedder together and make the light colors stand out better? Not sure, but that is my guess. I'm sure you will come up with something really good!

I think the gold picks up the green nicely, but is too strong. I think any big squares of saturated color would distract too much from the delicate trees, so am with those who suggest a light blue.

Dawn beat me to it...I think the gold would be ok it your set it with some even deeper color like a deep red or deep brown along the sides. This is the point in making a quilt I always agonize about!

Sorry, I just don't like the gold. It's too stark with the blocks. I'd probably go for a very warm red or a soft blue.

Well, always different here - I like the gold (maybe not as strong), but I think the zig zag setting would be much better no matter what color you choose!

Whatever you choose to do with these trees will be beautiful and inspiring, I'm certain. I mentioned your Scrap User's System in my blog today. It's taking me time to get all these squares and bricks organized accordingly, but I am making good progress and am thrilled with the organizational method and future quilt-making opportunities. Thank you, Bonnie!

I actually like this colour and it's maverick looking! :o) Can you mock up a gold and green border to get the whole feeling?

Is that the tree I sent you? It is super! How about a deep Hunter Green (no pun intended) all the best orchards have grass under the trees.
