Sadie and I played getaway yesterday afternoon.
The weather had settled into a breezy low 60’s hover for a while, and I harnessed her up with the intent to head up the road about 6 miles to Grayson Highlands State park.
It’s long past due time to get my winter butt out the door and start moving again. I can feel it. This fair weather walker just doesn’t like to get out in the winter –but it’s time. Long over due time.
Spring green is emerging everywhere, though the hardwoods still don’t have their leaves. There is a benefit to this – it means you can still see through the trees to the beautiful mountain ranges in the distance.
Who can guess what is going on here?
My Accuquilt studio has been getting a workout!
As much as I love my machines for quilting – equally important are the tools I cut with.
The best thing I ever did – okay, the second best thing – was to buy a second Accuquilt for the cabin. Yes, I have two. One at the house in Wallburg, and one at Quilt Villa in Virginia.
My patchwork designing is really pretty straight forward – Everything breaks down into the strip widths I use the most, so the strip dies are right at the top of my favorite things.
When it comes to cutting sashings with cornerstones already attached? I stitch and press and subcut!
I know that a Spring Break is a long enough break when I start to even forget what day it is.
Two weeks! Two wonderful weeks – to plan, to stitch, to dream.
To take a road trip, or two.
To not worry about what time it is, what needs to be done.
Cereal for lunch? No problem and no complaints!
And yes, I know that I am finally unwinding and relaxing when I decide to forgo the bra when getting dressed for the morning as I doubt the deer will care. RELAXED!
Not in a slovenly way, mind you. There has been some cooking, some cleaning and even some laundry.
I also tend to use these solo cabin times as a way to get inventive with what has been lingering too long, forgotten in the freezer.
Mona knew of spots on the road to stop that I didn’t know about!
We knew it was a bit of a crap shoot as many antique type stores are closed on Mondays, and it was the Monday after Easter so we had ALL of our fingers crossed that we’d find something open.
And we did!
Of course, I am always on the look out for quilts, sewing items, machines and the like – but I also have an “addiction” to useful glassware – not just the dust collecting stuff, but things I can use.
One thing I didn’t expect to follow me home? The newly painted and distressed to look old WELCOME sign you see in this photo. In the near future it will be hanging by the back door. Right now it’s in the back of the van – not such a great presentation. But it is big, and rough and I love it!
