I actually finished the binding and hanging sleeve over the weekend, but our weather!
We went from lovely days in the 80s to back into the 30s and rainy and windy...
I had hoped to get an "over the tree rail" photo of Hello Gretchen, but the universe has other ideas right now.
Before we headed out for dinner with 10 year old Casden to celebrate his birthday, I opted just to do a few quickies over the long arm rail.
Formal photos will have to wait for another day - preferably not windy, and not too much sun creating shadows.
In the meantime:
Hooray, hooray, hooray!
I can't tell you (Well, yes I guess I CAN, because here ai am doing it!) just how much fun I had making this one. All of the scraps that found a place - such a wild and random variety of fabrics.
Some gifted from friends, some of my own from 40+ years of quilting - and even yes - Some fabric scraps I gleaned from the trash during retreats (With no one watching! LOL!)
I've made these eight blocks in the past couple of days. And I'm okay with the pace.
Quilting close up.
For quilts such as this - I am over the moon with how well the baby pink thread quilted through everything where grey would have looked a bit dirty, sand would have been a bit too dark.
Baby pink? Just might be my newest quilting favorite.
And this scrappy back?
This was way too much fun.
And the pink bobbin thread worked its magic here, too.
Yesterday was filled with getting the retreat all spit spot for today's incoming group - Nola's Bonniacs are on their way from Indiana!
Housekeeper Susan was working her magic (New vacuum at the inn making her happy. Yaya!) and son Jeff was doing his groundskeeper magic - the yard is shaping up so nicely!
We hope to have nice weather and perhaps another dirt road hike or two?
In between everything I spent some time back at the machine piecing here and there.
Things making me happy:
Smiley strawberries on aqua!
Little bugs on neutral.
This neutral has construction equipment!
I love this time of year. I want to spend more time outside. I want to enjoy the dogwoods, the apple trees, the greening up and unfurling of leaves.
There is time in every day to do just a bit of everything if we pace ourselves.
This one was also SO much fun, and I love all of the motion this quilt has going for it.
Shout out to Susan Taylor!
She shared her completed Pineapple Crazy quilt top from String Fling!
If you are itching for me to hurry up and release the Hello, Gretchen pattern (It's coming in September!) but have a lot of scraps on hand and you really are in the mood for some paper piecing - have you tried my Pineapple Crazy?
If you've started one and haven't worked on it for a while, why not pull it back out and enjoy some sewing-on-the-line scrappiness?
Another fun use-everything paper piecing quilt is my Rockabilly Swing quilt.
Both Pineapple Crazy, and Rockabilly Swing are 100% foundation paper pieced so the only thing I do is make sure that the piece I'm adding to the block is bigger than the space it is landing.
We sew it on first, trim it second - and the results are wonderful!
If you haven't tried foundation paper piecing, give it a try. If it still stumps you, try some more. All things come with practice.
I also love how excited you are about or Open Window PDF pattern release and Gift-Away that happened in Thursday's post!

I can't wait to see what you do with this one!
Someone told me once that we are human beings, not human doings.
Some days it's okay just to be.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone -

Gretchen is a gorgeous quilt Bonnie! Love all the colors in it.
ReplyDeleteNo walks here as we live on a state highway 😵.
Still assembling Bear Branch blocks and rows.
Have a Splendid day
Blessings 🙏💞
Thank you for such an array of wonderful doings Bonnie. If Helllo Gretchen was mine I think it would have to alternate, one week Gretchen showing, one week the patched back!
ReplyDeleteYes, that quote is so very important, now just convince myself of it!

Bonnie..I love, love, love your new block with geese and strings… flying geese are one of my favorites. You have the craziest collection of weird fabrics that are so perfect for your designs. How can you look at those blocks and not smile?
