Memorial Day!

As if the south isn't crazy enough....The school district I live in has SCHOOL today! On a national holiday? Who woulda thunk it?

It's been a really nice weekend here other wise. I've been pleasantly infected by the cleaning virus...I have cleaned out my bedroom closet and got rid of what seems like 1/2 my wardrobe! Some old plaid shirts are now in the pile to be cut up for shirt fabric. Just can't "Goodwill" the whole lot!

It's crazy...just how many pairs of BLUE jeans does one person need? When they are all basically the same style and fit the same way? How many do I really think I can wear? The same goes for khaki docker type trousers. Yes, some of those pairs were left from when I was in school and we had to wear them as part of our uniform....but...So..I made closet space. Next thing to tackle is the dresser. Out with the old and unwearable!

I had lunch with Jason and his girlfriend Kim at Olive Garden. He gets employee discount so it made for a nice lunch at an affordable price. Hancocks is also in the same shopping center so I stopped by there after and picked up a new cutting mat, some rotory blades, and some thread...all at 1/2 price.

Luckily this Hancocks is not closing like many others are. It is the only fabric place in my area since Walmart closed down their fabric section. Heaven forbid you need replacement needles or thread or anything on quick notice...because there are just no stores near me other than Hancocks that carries fabric!

I'm puttering the afternoon away in the quilting room. Perfect!

  1. Sounds like a lovely day. As for the jeans -- um, don't know. But I do have a tub full of old ones in the basement waiting for a jeans quilt someday...

    Hi Bonnie

I just pieced the top of an "old jeans' picnic blanket for my 25yo teacher daughter and her sweet boyfriend who are going to drive around the country for a month.
It's sort of Gee's Bend meets The Traveling Pants. I'm going to give them a bunch of sharpies to write on it and they'll buy souvenier patches wherever they go to sew on it.
That basement box of jeans has been collecting since a size 10 Little Girl slims was last worn.....
Anyway, tomorrow I need to find an appropriate backing. I was thinking about going to an outdoor fabric store...I want something pliable but "damp ground proof" (a prob here in the northwest...) any ideas?

I love your site, Bonnie. Made the Pineapple blossom for my son for Christmas backed with a nice flannel and he loved it. I think 'My Blue Heaven ' is next.

  5. Bonnie,
I don't know where you get all your energy, I really don't. But I, for one, am grateful for all you do get done because it's inspiration for the rest of us.
I think it's very odd that your district had school. Maybe to keep the kids off the streets?

I don't think anyone can have too many jeans, but that's all I wear year round.

  6. We have the same problem with fabric stores closing all around us... I still do not understand WalMart closing their fabric department at all. Grr... I wish I could be so lucky as to be infected by your cleaning virus while visiting this blog.

  7. Wow, we must have gotten the same virus!! My DH and I cleaned our closet this weekend too. I did my dresser also. It took us 2 days but it looks great! He even steam cleaned the carpet in the closet too. Good job!
