Showing and Sharing from Orange Park, Florida

20150306_125017

Scrappy Quilts are alive and well in the state of Florida – the land of pink flamingos, parrot heads, palm trees and tropical treats.

Just because a climate is warm, doesn’t mean we don’t need color and design and a whole lot of piecing fun!

I so appreciate everyone being patient with me and my barely-there voice.

Sometimes the quilts speak for themselves, right?

My favorite part of any trip ---seeing what you bring to show me!  We had several Celtic Solstice finishes and even some Easy Streets and Grand Illusions!

Our classroom space was cozy ---so it was hard to get far enough back to get entire quilts AND bodies without tables in view, so hopefully these partial views will do you!

Lovely Easy Street from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders!

Things I noticed right off –with these three mysteries, which were inspired by a trip to Ireland, a trip to Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel, and my simple desire to just play out of the box a bit with color –these quilts feel right at home in the tropical climate of Florida.  Who would have known?  Maybe I’m a Florida girl at heart!

Orca Bay from String Fling , Florida style..extended with a braid border to fit a bed!

Where are you hiding?? Hahaha!

these crumb stars were made with the leftovers from the Orca Bay quilt above!

Peek a boo!  I see you!

This is another take on Easy Street..smaller set, extended with applique!

Geese on a String – Very tropical looking!

You can find my tutorial for Geese on a String based on an antique quilt in my collection, under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog.

Another Easy Street!

Each one so different!

Tumelo Trail from Scraps & Shirttails II is under way and growing on the side!

Another Leader & Ender project…double 9 patch!

I love love love the pink setting, don’t you? So vintage!

Grand Illusion is coming together!

As are THESE two!

A good start on Winston Ways from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders!

And ANOTHER Easy Street!

We all fell in love with this border – it’s a stripe!  It looks like it is pieced, but that wide stripe did all the work.  Fabulous!

Celtic Solstice just gets better and better!

20150306_131107

Gayle’s quilt for the daughter who doesn’t LIKE quilts! LOL!

Let’s see if I remember this story correctly – daughter wants a black/white quilt for her bed ---without too much piecing, and these fun black and white prints will do the work all by themselves in large squares.  A perfect quilt for a “non quilting” daughter who wants something modern – and mom still gets to make a QUILT and pass it off as a bed spread!  ((Love the turquoise!))  Sometimes simplest is best!

Gayle’s hexies in progress!

There are more.  There are LOADS more!

This was just day one – and I saved the vintage quilts out for a special post just on the vintage lovelies that were brought to inspire.

I’ve been up since 5am.  Not by choice!  You know how it goes --- person checks out of the next room yesterday – but LEFT the clock radio on the talk radio channel set to go off at 5am…..coming right through the wall on the other side of my headboard.

Got up, got ear plugs ---tossed and turned a bit, and gave up.

Remembered that 5am was really still 4am to my body clock.

Took a shower ---played in the scraps…and here I am.

It’s now almost 7:30 and since there is no wifi close to my room I am trusting the 2 bars on my phone as a hot spot to get these photos uploaded – EVENTUALLY so I’m going to set it to go while I get ready.

All of our activities should begin in just about an hour, and I am so excited for the Lady of the Lake quilters to arrive!

It’s a My Blue Heaven Day ----it’s going to be a good one!

And oh yeah – this was last night’s sunset:

I'm so surprised that there are still areas of the US without internet access. I would think they would have housed you in a more modern venue with internet and electricity. Can't imagine spending the night in a hotel room with no TV or internet, especially when not feeling well.

So glad to "hear" you feeling so much better. Funny how we can tell your improved spirit and energy level even from these posts! And it's not enough you lost an hour yesterday due to DST, the phantom guest's alarm awakening you today. I would have thought the maid would have turned it off as part of the routine when a guest leaves. Hmph!
