Hi Everyone!
I’m very excited to be participating on the first day of the blog hop promoting Quiltmaker Magazine’s 100 blocks by 100 designers, Volume 8!
This is the 7th consecutive issue I have participated in, and let me tell you, these issues get better and better and better!
There are blocks of every kind to suit every taste, from traditional and modern pieced blocks, to paper pieced blocks – blocks for appliquers and embellishers and embroiderers alike!
I just love looking at the variety of blocks and all the different techniques used to make them and am so inspired by what is pulled together all in one volume for you!
My block started out as a “What can I do with all these left over bonus triangles” experiment!
The first block I did came from the bonus triangles from several Boxy Stars quilts that were donated to charity. I made the block from the bonus triangles in random scraps in 2005:
Saving bonus triangles in usable sizes mean I actually DO use them! I used my Bonus Triangle Buddy to mark my second sewing line giving me triangle squares that give me an even measurement for ease of use!

For volume 8 of 100 blocks – I wondered if I could tone down my usual scrappy everything look – for a bit more of a subtle color way:
I love blue and green together!
I dug into my blue and green scraps and my pre-cut squares from my Scrap User's System, including things like civil war, batik, old calicoes, recycled shirts, plaids stripes and everything under the sun as long as it was in these two color families. My usual love of scrappy neutrals as a background canvas did the job I wanted it to do – and there is everything in these backgrounds too including recycled plaids and stripes, batik, prints from the 1980s and modern black on whites!
You might even notice that not all the star points match perfectly. I sewed my block on my 1911 singer treadle machine. I’m not the best treadler out there, but I give it a good shot.
I loved this block so much that after I sent it off to Quiltmaker I just kept sewing!

No pattern is given in the magazine for the full quilt, but it will be making an appearance in my next book, More Adventures with Leaders & Enders, published by Kansas City Star and due out in Spring 2014!

My favorite so far that I have worked on is Double Delight. I used the browns, blues, pinks and golds. Couldn't believe that my choices would look so good together. WOW! I have all the magazines so far. Thanks for the chance to win number 8.

My favorite quilt is one I made for my Mom's 89th birthday out of blocks embroidered by my Grandma. It will always be my favorite.
Still plugging away on Easy Street as a Leader/Ender project. All parts are finally cut and first three steps are now complete. Hadn't made much progress since I ran out of pre-cut pieces to use as Leaders/Enders. I see the finish line in sight! Thank you for all your patterns.
I'm new to quilting, and love the way you can use up the fabric using this system, rather than throwing it out, or even worse - just leaving it pile up and get in the way.....Thank you for the chance to win what looks like a great book!

Your scrappy quilts caught my eye. I am a fairly new follower and I love your designs and ideas. I have been browsing your free patterns trying to decide which quilt to start. I'm so excited!
I am really looking forward to the Celtic Solstice mystery. It will be the biggest quilt that I have attempted so far. I am planning on the 75" X 75" version. I have a Scrappy Trips almost complete. I just have to decide what to do about borders.
I'm still plugging away on this. It got put aside after our return from Alaska as I had a couple baby quilts to work on. But, I'm happy to say that it's back along with my Winston Ways from Block Party in Portland. I am going to get these to completed before starting nothing else.....uh huh, really.

Fun block! I have a bunch of bonus triangles in various sizes accumulating for that future quilt; I completed Easy Street up to borders and am looking forward to Celtic Solstice. Your pattern listings have spurred me towards work on a tumbler quilt, 1000 Pyramids, Sister's Choice, Bow Ties, Spools, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something :) Loving every minute!
I am a recent follower and I am doing Cheddar Bowties as my first leader & ender. I have also pulled fabric for the new mystery quilt which will be my first one. I have been sewing quilts with my vintage machines for some time and can't believe it took me so long to find you!!
I just reached the very last week of the Easy Street Mystery Quilt and I am in the middle of my first 'Trip around the world" quilt using left-over solids. I am pacing my Easy Street to be completed just before the next Mystery Quilt starts, which I am already pulling fabrics for!

My favorite completed quilt from one of your patterns is "My Blue Heaven." It is a beautiful example of a "coordinated scrappy" quilt. I am also trying hard to get organized using your scrap-saver methods. I cut a little bit every day & my messy scrap bins are shrinking. Instead I have nice, neat piles of pre-cut squares. What a nice feeling!!

Bonnie, I wish I could say I have made some of those quilts. I guess you could say that I am a green-go. I have done, geese's, then just this last week I took classes to do: Easy Pease Pineapple, Impromptu, and then Pinwheel. I had a great time in my classes and sure learned a lot, made new friends a long the way.

One of my first quilts was Bricks and Stepping Stones, and then I also made Strip Twist. I really enjoyed making Easy Street as your mystery last year; the king size version is decorating my bed.

I follow your blog daily and love quilt cam, I have nearly completed Lazy Sunday and plan on making Sisters Choice soon! I love your new block and quilt and such a perfect name "scrap crystals". I have done and taught a numbers of your quilts as well as 5 mysteries. Have fabric picked for Celtic Solstice and am currently working on about 4 of your other patterns. Picking a favorite is hard but i really loved Double Delight which I gave away and hope to make again someday. I've been quilting for just over a year now. I hate to waste anything so I've started saving my scraps in usable sizes, and I just love making crumb blocks from the tiniest pieces. Thank you for your inspiration and guidance.
Congrats for Volume 8! Really look forward to these wonderful collections. I have several of your quilts in progress and a growing collection of bonus triangles and strings. I 'de-boned' dress shirts when my husband passed and the fabrics are background/base for celtic knots on a quilt for our son, The buttons made great Christmas ornaments ~ used on styrofoam balls with beads~ son's 2012 Christmas.

My first and so far only (but definitely not my last!) of your quilts is Boxy Stars, which is only a top, but is soon to be my first attempt at machine quilting. I have a few Sister's Choice blocks on my design wall, as well as a few split nine patches, and I'm looking forward to Celtic Solstice.
Since 2009 I have taken classes to learn different techniques. I have yet to finish any of those quilts. After retiring June 2012, I ran across your website, blog. Wasn't too long before you mentioned a mystery quilt. Well, since I had never made a whole quilt, I decided to give it a try. I don't have a stash of scraps, I have a lot of fat quarters, some from when I took my very first class back 30 years ago. I didn't have any of the colors for the mystery and it was so late my starting I only managed to get a few of each color. It is a lot of work to make a scrappy quilt look scrappy if you only have a few pieces, but I worked at it and proud to say my first completed top was a Bonnie Hunter Easy Street. I want to make all your quilts! Thank you so much for helping me relax and enjoy quilting.

Thank you for posting everything you do. I have learned so much! I am currently hand quilting my first scrappy quilt using scraps from a 2009 mission trip to Romania where we gave each minister's wife a fruit fabric apron to go along with our retreat theme "Fruit of the Spirit."

I did last years mystery as my very first mystery quilt a long and enjoyed it so much I am doing this years one too! Running through your free pattern tab I found Double Delight and printed out each step as my personal little mystery to make the sewing flow better and am quilting the finished top just in time for my sister in laws wedding in December. She is getting it as a wedding quilt. Am looking forward to your new book coming out next year! I have also printed out your pattern to Oceans wave...... A once in a lifetime quilt but one I really want to make!

I have 2 WIP's based on your patterns: Scrappy Mountain Majesties (needs borders) and Easy Street. I was hoping to have finished Easy Street by now (= finished the top), but due to moving from the Netherlands to Sweden, it is still in pieces. I did finish all the clues, I only have to sew it together. I'm still debating if I'm going to participate in this years mystery, I think I'll decide when I see the first clue.

Cheddar bow ties are my fave. I keep a small box of components. They are good for leaders and enders and even if I'm too tired at the end of the day I can crank one out in a minute or two

My favorite quilt I have made thus far from your treasure trove of patterns is Easy Street. Lazy Sunday is a quilt top, not quilted yet, and there is a cheddar bow tie leader and ender under way. Can't wait for Celtic Solstice to begin. All my fabric plus rulers and the printed-out intro are gathered, waiting for November 29. I have all your books and am eager to add thenext one to my collection. Needless to say I would be happy happy happy to win volume 8 in the 100 blocks series.

My favorite quilt I have made thus far from your treasure trove of patterns is Easy Street. Lazy Sunday is a quilt top, not quilted yet, and there is a cheddar bow tie leader and ender under way. Can't wait for Celtic Solstice to begin. All my fabric plus rulers and the printed-out intro are gathered, waiting for November 29. I have all your books and am eager to add thenext one to my collection. Needless to say I would be happy happy happy to win volume 8 in the 100 blocks series.

Your patterns and quilts are amazing! I have made a Scrappy Trip, huge Scrappy Bargello, Mountain Majesties, Zuckerwatte (a 2013 Christmas Gift for my DIL) and I am in the process of Pfeffernusse (renamed Herbstfarben because of the colors I used) They are all beautiful. What a great block and quilt. I took 2 classes from you in Hershey 2012 - Smith Mountain Morning and Tumalo Trails. I'm using Smith Mountain as my leader/ender and am almost done with my 9 patches. I love this quilt! Stars are my favorite block, and these are easy to make. My daughter's favorite color is green, and if she ever saw this quilt she would grab it and never let go! LOL. I've collected all of the 100 block issues from Quiltmaker, and I'm looking forward to having this issue as well. My first "Bonnie " quilt is a pink and chocolate "Many Trips" quilt, which is at the quilter's now. It turned out just beautiful. Thanks so much for all the inspiration you've given to us over the years.

I also love how it showcases the fabric, each one looks so different by using different fabric. When I first found Quilt Cam, you were working on a Sister's Choice quilt. I pulled a lot of greens and creams and made a version of that quilt lickety-split! It went together faster than any quilt I have ever made, even though it looks like I spent years on it, LOL!

HI Bonnie! I love your blog and read every day. I recently finished my first quilt using your pattern "Jared Takes a Wife" and I am totally hooked. I learned how to put sashing on using the instructions on your blog. I learned about fabric values here, and I have gathered almost all of the materials for the mystery quilt and can't wait to get started! Thanks for having so much information available on your blog and for making it so easy to understand. I have never been one to sew, but you made me believe that I could do it. :-)
I've made many of your quilts from scraps, but this year I bought a bunch of shirts and made Goose in the Puddle. It turned out great! This quilt convinced me to go out and get more shirts to make more quilts. I like Goose in the Puddle pattern because it is simple enough to complete in a short period of time, but it is never boring to sew.
So far my favorite is Easy Street because that;s the only one I've finished so far. I hope to change that with Celtic Solstice and complete Smith Mountain Morning. So many cool quilts and not enough time! Love this Crystal block.

Good morning, Bonnie. I would love to have the "100 Blocks", but if I don't win it I'll just keep making your patterns into quilts. So far I have made the Scrappy Trips (in truly all scrappy colors) and the String X (in scrappy pieces for the string part and red and yellow in the rest). Currently I am working on split 9-patch blocks as leaders and ender while I am working on a Burgoyne Surrounded in scrappy browns with unbleached muslin for the background. You may think it is boring, but it is just what my son requested. I almost forgot that I have made 12 Boxy Stars just on a whim. I'll put them together someday. The fabrics for Celtic Solstice are ready in my sewing room. I have gathered enough so that both my mother and I can each make the quilt. Love your Scrap Crystals quilt and love greens and blues together! I made a quilt called Hidden Wells in blues and greens. Love it!

I think my favorite quilt of yours is whatever pattern which I have just finished. I have done four and my most current completed is Boxy Stars and I have started Scrappy Mountain Majesties.
