Hi Everyone!
I’m very excited to be participating on the first day of the blog hop promoting Quiltmaker Magazine’s 100 blocks by 100 designers, Volume 8!
This is the 7th consecutive issue I have participated in, and let me tell you, these issues get better and better and better!
There are blocks of every kind to suit every taste, from traditional and modern pieced blocks, to paper pieced blocks – blocks for appliquers and embellishers and embroiderers alike!
I just love looking at the variety of blocks and all the different techniques used to make them and am so inspired by what is pulled together all in one volume for you!
My block started out as a “What can I do with all these left over bonus triangles” experiment!
The first block I did came from the bonus triangles from several Boxy Stars quilts that were donated to charity. I made the block from the bonus triangles in random scraps in 2005:
Saving bonus triangles in usable sizes mean I actually DO use them! I used my Bonus Triangle Buddy to mark my second sewing line giving me triangle squares that give me an even measurement for ease of use!
Click HERE to learn how to save your bonus units so they are ready to go!
For volume 8 of 100 blocks – I wondered if I could tone down my usual scrappy everything look – for a bit more of a subtle color way:
I love blue and green together!
I dug into my blue and green scraps and my pre-cut squares from my Scrap User's System, including things like civil war, batik, old calicoes, recycled shirts, plaids stripes and everything under the sun as long as it was in these two color families. My usual love of scrappy neutrals as a background canvas did the job I wanted it to do – and there is everything in these backgrounds too including recycled plaids and stripes, batik, prints from the 1980s and modern black on whites!
You might even notice that not all the star points match perfectly. I sewed my block on my 1911 singer treadle machine. I’m not the best treadler out there, but I give it a good shot.
I loved this block so much that after I sent it off to Quiltmaker I just kept sewing!
In the gallery section of the magazine you will find my Scrap Crystals block in a finished quilt:
No pattern is given in the magazine for the full quilt, but it will be making an appearance in my next book, More Adventures with Leaders & Enders, published by Kansas City Star and due out in Spring 2014!
Please visit Quiltmaker’s Blog, Quilty Pleasures for more goodies and give-aways HERE! All of the other participants of this blog hop are listed on the Quiltmaker blog, so don’t miss out.
If you are new to Quiltville, I hope you’ll stick around and explore a bit! There are a multitude of tabs at the top of the blog to direct you to things like my Free Patterns, Tips & Techniques, Vintage Sewing Machines and to my Quilt-Cam –when I am home and not traveling teaching quilting, I will turn on the live web cam in my studio and you can sew along with me! These episodes are archived on YouTube and are all accessible by the links in the Quilt-Cam tab.
You will also notice a tab called Celtic Solstice! Every year I run a Reader Appreciation Mystery. Celtic Solstice is this year’s online mystery and our introductory post is linked at the bottom of the tab with the yardage requirements, colors and other info to participate in this year’s mystery which starts November 29th! It’s a ton of fun---I hope you’ll play along!
We've also got a very active Facebook community, over 37,000 readers strong! Click the link at the bottom of this post to like our Facebook page and keep up with what we are doing there. Feel free to share photos of your quilts in progress and share with others!
This blog is updated at least twice a day so you will want to keep up with the latest news and adventures of a traveling itinerant quilter. There is always something fun to read in Quiltville!
Now – the good part!
Leave me a comment in the comments section below. If you've made any of my quilts before, tell me something about your favorite!
Remember - your email address MUST be visible in your profile, or in your comment to win. If I have no way to contact you back, I'll have to choose someone else!
The drawing will be open until Sunday, November 17th when I will draw the winners.
Happy Hopping, everyone!

«Oldest ‹Older 1201 – 1397 of 1397Thanks for the opportunity to win!! I'm currently working on a hexi quilt and Pineapple Blossom. Both have scraps from almost every quilt I've made in over 20 years. Can't wait for your new book!
Oh, pick me! You inspire me every day! Thank you, good soul.
I'm so excited for the mystery! Your scrappiness is amazing.
Thanks for making such a geneous offer.
My Oklahoma Backroads just left the couch for a more wintery one. It's so easy to love it.
Would love to win - thanks so much for the opportunity!
I've made all kinds of scrappy so I would be 100 % sure that I have made one of yours since I go to your site pretty often. Love the scrappy quilts!
Hi Bonnie, replying in Bloglovin to see if it works for me! Thanks for the chance to win the book, this block would look awesome in autumn colours!
I am one of your followers and would love to win the book, especially one that you have signed.
I would love to have my name drawn, this would certainly improve my block variety.
Thanks for all you do for the quilting community, Bonnie. I have fallen in love with scrap quilting after decades of avoiding scrappy.
Wow! I can't get over the number of comments! I absolutely love your block!!! I'd love to win a copy!
Hi Bonnie,
Excited to see this volume-I've never seen any of the others but I'm not a big shopper in the last couple years. Your block and quilt look wonderful, love that you use the scraps effectively. I am thrilled to be part of the new mystery quilt, it will be my first one!

What a lovely quilt. I save all my hsts, never knowing what I will do with them. This is perfect!
I follow your daily blogs and am inspired by how much energy you have. I can't seem to get going on sewing in the evenings. Perhaps the lighting isn't good because I seem to make mistakes. Thanks for having this giveaway.
I only "discovered" you recently (what??!! How is it I never heard of Bonnie Hunter before?) so I haven't made a "Bonnie" quilt, but I have all my fabric ready to make Celtic Solstice (can't wait)! Thanks for the chance to win!
I don't know if my comments made it in here or not as my tablet was being a pain yesterday! I follow you and have been an avid saver of scraps for decades. Would love to win and thank you so much for your inspiration!
I like your block and what a great way to use up bonus triangles. The block looks great in the quilt.Thank you for a chance to win the magazine.
Been wanting to do a scrappy quilt in greens, tans and creams, the star quilt may be just the one to make. Ready for up coming mystery. Love making last year, 2012. Not really excited about the out come. A very busy looking quilt. Looks better in person then in the picture. If you want a picture it is posted at CT Quilt with Us.
Argh! I can't remember the name of the pattern we used for Project Linus of yours. But yes, it was a lot of fun! Scrappy something... LOL! I love your quilts. I wish I could be disciplined enough to do leaders and enders.
I've never made a scrappy quilt - I'm still collecting scras! But someday I'm going to make a spiderweb quilt using your pattern - love it!
Thks for your giveaway. Every thing provides new inspiration. pjrquilter at msn dot com

I love this block, as I tend to love pretty much all of your blocks! Thanks for all you do for us quilty folk, Bonnie.
Not sure if my comment yesterday showed up. I love scrappy quilts and you, Bonnie, are one of my favorite quilt designers. Wonderful block and it is nice to see how controlling color placement while remaining scrappy can make a block suitable for people who "can't do scrappy"
On my bucket list is to make a quilt out of many of the blocks in this series of magazines! That's after I finish several of your patterns, Bonnie! I love scrappy!
Debbie Barnes; barnes2676@sbcglobal.net
I can't believe that I have never checked out your scrap users system!
This past weekend I was at a quilt retreat where many quilters were working on your patterns. Several of us were joking that you were our "hero" or "best friend". You clearly have quite a scrappy following!
dtell@bgsu.edu

I am referred to as a Bonnie groupie. Love your patterns, blog and your mysteries. You do so much for us out here in quilt land. My favorite quilt pattern from you is Old Tobacco Road. Loved all the fall colors I used. Vol. 8 would be a great addition to my Bonnie groupie collection.
I love nearly all quilts! Even though I love the look of scrappy quilts I am not very good at letting myself go with the flow of them. I tend to stick closely to a few fabrics or a strict color scheme, I need to lighten up and enjoy the scrappy process more!
email: bestbelle2010@aol.com
I became a follower of yours soon after I began quilting. Most of my stash came from other people so it's a VERY scrappy collection...perfect for Bonnie quilts LOL I think my favorite is the Scrappy Mountain Majesty. I'm originally from the Northwest so love the mountains!! I'm going to try to keep up with the new mystery this time.

Thanks Bonnie. I love finally using all those (well, not all) scraps I saved for years, even before I quilted.

I love give always but have never won anything! This mystery quilt will be my first of your quilts but certainly not my last.
I love scrappy quilts, and have ALL your books! My favorite quilt I've made so far is Pineapple Blossom, because it has all the scraps from my previous quilts (along with a few friends too) AND because you came and taught it in a workshop at our guild so I have a signed block!! I have all my greens, oranges, blues & yellows gathered and waiting for Celtic Solstice to start, and would love to win this book to tide me over until then!
I am a faithful follower as well because I love scrappy. Your quilts are all beautiful and that block in blue changes it so much from the original. Love the whole quilt.
Hi Bonnie,
since I found your blog while bsack in 2011, I am one of those reader who checks it out at least thrice a day if there is something new that must not be missed.
I have made many quilts from your patterns so far and I can't name my favorite because they are all great!
I love your scrappy approach to all those great designs!
It took me quite a while to be confident enough to just go by color and not by anything else... Scrappy Mountain Majesties was the first quilt that was completely scrappy and I am so much in love with this one.
It hung in a friend's booth at the "Creativ Messe", a market for everything around scrapbooking, stamping, painting, sewing and - of course - quilting!
People loved it and lots of them said that they wanted to check out your blog for some more scrappy inspiration...
Once you go scrappy, you never go back :) Wise words!
Thanks for all the inspiration!
Would love to win a copy of the magazine! Just finishing the string blocks for Jamestown Landing.

So much inspiration! You energy is catching and I'm excited about Celtic Solstice! I've got my stash sorted out for it and am anxiously awaiting directions for the first block. I'm from Irish descent and my birthday is on 12/21...winter solstice! This will be MY quilt! I give away everything I make, so this one will stay with me. I envy you your job!
It was Midnight Flight that first hooked me into my "Bonnie-mania" I love the 100 blocks magazines. So much inspiration. Just so you know...I have my Celtic Solstice fabrics all out of the drawers in color piles....just waiting to hit the cutting table. (I'm trying a change in background and going with a MOD gray solid...we'll see how it goes.) CAN HARDLY WAIT. I'm also SUPER SUPER Excited to see you sewing your Jubilee blocks. (I call mine my SCRAPTERPIECE) It is motivating me to put aside my current project and work on those. I went crazy and I have 80! (sometimes I made duplicates if I didn't love the first go-around) I have my setting planned (sort of). The first step is to border all my blocks in black. Maybe I'll put a dent in that during Quilt Cam today! SEW much love - Terri
Love your site - and LOVE your sewing machine collection! This looks like a great book! Thanks
Hi Bonnie,
LONG time follower! I've made Star struck and.........errrr....... don't you hate it when your memory fails! Its a string diamond pattern. Still need to send you pictures. On my wall now is Majestic Mountains, inspired after your blogs about your brother. I'm making it for my brother for this Christmas. I have a new "used shirt" disease, can't seem to pass a thrift shop without a quick peek for good material.
Thanks for all the fabulous posts - so inspiring.
Bonnie, I don't have one favorite quilt pattern of yours as every time I make one it becomes my new favorite quilt! Thanks for having this great giveaway!
Oh Bonnie, you give us all so much I hesitate to even try for more but you did mention the magic word. . . FREE! Thanks so much for all you do and the example of efficiency and joy you set for all of us!

Hi Bonnie,
I am newer to your site as of recently, although I have had you on facebook for sometime. I am currently working on a baby quilt but will be doing the mystery quilt. I love your quilt that is above. The colors are awesome. You have given me the confidence to start a memory quilt of a very special person who passed away a few years ago. I am using pjs and flannel shirts. I think it is going to turn out good. Thanks for all you do and safe travels. Lisan
I'm a brand new quilter and totally intrigued by all of the possibilities. I've always wanted to add quilting to my resume of pastimes, but never had the courage to cut into a beautiful piece of fabric. I'm on my second project now and totally addicted!
Only recently started following your blog and quilt-cam sessions. Loving both. Haven't made one of your quilts yet but plan to make the new mystery, Celtic Soltice. Haven enjoyed your page in Quiltmaker magazine for a long time. ragland1935@yahoo.com
Love everything you do!!! Currently working on Scrappy Mountains and I am finally trying the leader and enders for a Rick Rack nines. It may get done in a couple years, but who cares. Thanks for all the great patterns!

Hi Bonnie,
I just recently discovered your blog. I have been piecing for a little over one year now, and I have learned so much just since I found you. I have watched all of your archived quiltcams, and have joined two live. I thought I had commented earlier, but, I can't find it in the comments, so I am redoing the comment. I am making a quilt for my daughter for Christmas. When I found you and read about the leaders and enders and the bonus triangles I was in awe. I started using them and although I was half way through making the blocks, I have already gotten 42 bonus triangles, and about 80+ leaders and enders. I would love to win the 100 block magazine. Thank you for all the inspiration and the time that you take to let us "look over your shoulder" for hands on learning.
I went to my local fabric shop 18 years as go to watch a demonstration by a girl called Bonnie doing a Trip round the World, came home and did my very first quilt without a pattern, the intervening years I always followed patterns for yardage and gave away the scraps, if only I had heard of Bonnie Hunter Queen of Scraps. I'm not sure if this giveaway is for USA only as I'm from Scotland. Thank you Bonnie fro all your inspiring and tireless work you pass to us ordinary quilters.
Anne from Glasgow
Thanks for the chance to win, enjoying your blog as always and looking forward to seeing your Barrister's Blocks come together.

So amazed at your use of "scraps" to build such beautiful pieces. Can't wait to finish the current project (my second ever!) so I can start one of yours! Looking forward to the Sew-Cam this afternoon.
I just discovered you on Facebook a few weeks ago and am becoming a fan of scrappy quilts. Love Quilt Cam.
You bring joy to those who love to quilt. Thank you.
Am working on the tulips project from when you visited Houston earlier on the year. Had a terrific time at that workshop! Thanks for the opportunity to win something. Debby

#201! That sounds like a very lucky number! Pick me Pick me! I love the 100 Blocks publications! :o) Getting my colors together for the Mystery....will we have any Bonus pieces??
I just love your blog and all you write and I have learned so much. I would love to win the 100 Blocks magazine to improve my skills even further...Thank you so much Bonnie for all you do...you have opened a whole new world for me.
I can hardly wait for this issue I'm still referring back to old issues for ideas.
How can you choose a winner from so many entries!!! I luv anything scrappy and just love the way use such small triangles, I now have a triangle scrap box and need a pattern to use them in. Thanks for all you do for your followers.
My Mother love to sew up the bonus triangles. I usually save those for her to sew, but every now and then I sew them myself and give them to her. Your block is very nice.
I would love the chance to win the 100 blocks new volume...hard to find locally. I am still on the fence about the new mystery. I say that now, but as soon as the first clue comes out I will be scrambling through my stash for the perfect fabrics. Thanks Bonnie, have a great holiday.
My favorite is Pineapple Blossom because it has so many different fabrics in it. I used 80's calicoes, Civil War repro, bright tone-on tone, etc.
OOOOOh! I am loving the blocks shown in the 100 blocks book! I have made your Easy Street (almost put together!), working on Jared Takes a Wife, spool block leaders and enders, and eagerly awaiting the completion of your orange ufo and the first installment of the Celtic solstice. I may have to rename mine because I am planning on doing it in reds, browns, black, gold and neutrals.
I love your blog. I've learned so much since subscribing. Keep up the good work. I would really like to have this book.
Quilted Auntie
Bonnie - I want to thank you for the opportunity to use your block from the new Quiltmaker magazine on my newly acquired Featherweight 221 using your scrap user's system to organize my stash and your leader's and ender's system to sew the quilt. This will be a first truly "Bonnie" quilt (I would not have even looked for a Featherweight if I had not found you a couple of months ago). Thanks for all you do and teach.
Bonnie,
Thanks for the chance to win a copy. My first quilt in recent years was a king sized crayon box because there were no seams to match, thanks to your generosity with the free patterns and tutes on your website my sewing machine is no longer dusty and I'm quilting again. I just finished a recliner sized scrappy mountains for my fathers 80 somethingth birthday. I used one of the alternate settings and named it Kansas cockleburs. He loved it! I'm currently finishing the binding on my easy street, so I'll be ready for the new mystery. Three things I learned from easy street- 1. Follow your instinct, if you're questioning a fabric choice don't use it. 2. Be brave enough to make your own color choices if the suggested colors aren't speaking to you and 3. I can now use the easy angle and companion rulers with confidence that I know what I'm doing. Thanks again for all that you selflessly do and provide for those of us who love scrappy quilts.
I love your block! I am deciding which of your patterns to make up as a comfort quilt for a friend recovering from breast cancer surgery...Pineapple Blossom? Boxy Stars? Scrappy Mountain Majesties? I will be backing it with the pink breast cancer ribbon design on flannel. Thanks so much for your wonderful patterns with such good directions! I have the first issue of "100 Blocks" and would love another!

Bonnie, I was just telling a friend today how much I enjoy your blog. It's always va bit of sunshine in my day!
I have done two mysteries...roll, roll cotton bowl and easy street. I have learned so much from your books and your blog. You challenge me but all of your instructions are easy to follow and are doable even for this geometrically challenged quilter. Thank you for your generosity in sharing so much of yourself and your patterns.
hope I win. BOnnie I am LOVING my cheddaR BOWTIES YOU CHALLENGED ME TO
MAKE
I love this block and would be thrilled to win a copy of the magazine! My favorite quilt I have made (so far) is the Strip Twist. I think we started that on Super Bowl Sunday a few years back (remember?). It became a UFO. Two years ago, I decided to make quilts for all the nephews and lone niece in our family for Christmas (this is a once in a lifetime occurrance...I'm not one that makes tons of quilts). That Strip Twist quilt top got divided in half to make two throw size quilts. I had to come up with 5 quilts for everyone to get one! Looking at the picture now, I need to make a few more Strip Twists. It goes fast and is so appealing, especially with scraps. Thanks Bonnie. You can let me know I won at j s p w a r r e n at a o l dot c o m. Safe travels! Sally in Mt Pleasant, SC
My first mystery with you was Easy Street and now I am all geared up to start Celtic Solstice! Thanks for all the inspiration and tips you give to quilters, I've really learned alot!
Hi Bonnie! Thanks for everything you do for us, I love to read your blog every day, you keep me inspired when I don't have a chance to sit at my machine because of how busy my boys keep me.
I love anything scrappy and have made several of your quilts. The most recent was Easy Street. Am looking forward to the upcoming one too. Thanks for all you do to inspire us.
I would love to have this block magazine. I love your blog and of course, I have all of your books. I did enjoy meeting you in Texas 2010 . The class I took was such fun and I am glad that you are enjoying the "notebook" I made for you.

Wow, 1,391 comments on your post so far, mine will be 1,392!
I have only made Easy Street which I loved. Your pre instructions and instructions are so nicely written and very easy to follow for all your patterns. I am a loyal follower daily.
Thank you, thank you.
I would love to win a copy of the magazine if the quilt fairies should make it so.
Safe travels in Texas!
Hi Bonnie, thanks for sharing this opportunity with us. I'd love to win a copy, as they are hard to come by here in the Netherlands. Thank you for all the free patterns, tutorials etc. - really appreciate those!
Would love a copy of the 100 Blocks. Just getting started on hexagons so with the blocks and add some "100 Blocks" I might get another quilt!
Thank you Bonnie for your generosity and for sharing your passion with all of us. You are such an inspiration. Thank you sew much!
Holy Moly! Over 1,200 entries, hope I'm not too late! Love your scrap crystals block/quilt. I have a ton of bonus triangle units to use!
I like sister's choice the best. Have made one and will probably make another. It was all random scraps and looks fantastic. I learnt that you didn't have to obey too many rules with scrappy except for considering value.
Thanks for chance to win. Would be fun.
I am so happy I heard about your site through the various quilty podcasts that I listen to - I can't wait to try some of the quilty goodness that I have found on your site. Thanks!
As always thanks for the opportunity to win. Love your website and your energy. Judi
