After months of waiting -
But have you ever done this? After prepping a binding and thinking it was the *right* thing, when it came to actually time to put the binding on months later - you decided that was NOT the *right* thing?
I second guessed my binding and I'm glad that I did.
I had it all cut and pressed and everything!
But when it came time to actually put it on the quilt, I didn't like the printy printy of the binding on top of the printy printy of the border. (Yes, printy printy is a REAL TERM!)
It was too similar, and it just kind of went flat.
So I went with this.
Still a bit printy, but not overly so, and it reads more like a tone on tone when wrapped around the printy printy border.
Blurry photo - sorry!
Looks like the focus is on my dry, chapped hands!
At any rate, this is better. And it gets some 1999 civil war reproduction fabric out of my stash.
Repeat after me; Fabric has NO EXPIRATION DATE!
For those asking: Four Patch Fun is this year's Leader & Ender challenge. It's found under the Free Patterns tab at the top of the blog. We do one every year, and they run from July to July.
I quilted mine with Field of Dreams by Patricia Ritter of Urban Elementz. There are more photos in yesterday's post.
Meanwhile - THIS sidekick is begging for attention.
And when she gets down, it's this one:
See that look?
It comes with a whine. Softly at first, but increasing in volume and demanding pets and scratches.
You can pet her for a bit, and think you are safe to stop, but once you do and count to 10 - you'll hear the whining start up again. Such a Diva.
One piece, one unit, one block at a time!

Enjoying the blog. Miss it when you’re traveling. Jean K
Now that fabric and quilt stores are closing right and left, those 1990's (and before, and beyond) fabrics in our stashes are worth more than ever. So glad I "stash enhanced" when I did! My latest project has purchases from 2000 and 2005, and they were just perfect for the block all these years later. There's also the price savings. When I started seriously building my stash, you could get decent fabric for $2.99/yard at JoAnn's (remember 99 cent FQ's?) or really splurge on that $6.99/yard stuff from the quilt shop. You know what you'd pay now, if you could even find it!
LOL, I have diva dog too! My little 10 lb LhasaPoo doesn't whine for scratches, she sits on my chest and paws my hand to pull it to her belly for scratches. And as soon as I stop, her paw comes out again to pull my hand back in. The whole time she sits there with such a haughty expression on her face that I call her the Queen Diva. By the way, yup, I've been there and done that with changing the binding color. Have several rejected bindings rolled up waiting for their quilt someday.
I've learned *not* to prep either the binding or the backing ahead of piecing a top. Even though I think future me will thank me, she seldom agrees with my choices.
Our fur babies are so entertaining! Love your girls! This new quilt is beautiful! I love the colors in this! Perfect binding choice! Have a great day playing with crackers!!
Zoey's face! That nose was just begging for a boop!
I am finishing up my elf tasks and then I can clean up the craft room and begin cutting out those HRTs you gave us Friday. Christmas is coming on fast. Still lots to get done Those pups missed you while you were gone. Enjoy your quilty time. Brenda J.
Yes, One Block, One Border, One Binding at a Time. I am enjoying the Mystery even more this year between Hubby's appointments. Getting old isn't for sissies. Hope Zoey and Mabel can make up. Do they whine at Dave too?
Great pics of the girls! Today I am working frantically to get my two grandsons' quilts done. A rush to the finish.
"Wrong' binding can always go in the spare binding box for another project. Ellen T.
I LOVE your second choice for the binding. Happy Holidays & enjoy family time.
Yes, I sure have bindings relegated to the ‘someday’ box, after I changed my mind, lol! I like your new binding better too. Somewhere along the line, I’ve come to the realization that I prefer darker colored bindings. Your new quilt is such a beauty… I just love the colors and the panto you used.
Thanks for the pictures and antics of the dogs! I did make your recipe of Peanut Clusters (see tab of recipes) and my dad says they are the best he has ever had!

I'm happily sewing on L&L, learning a new block. Have you ever used HRS in any other mystery Bonnie, I sure don't remember learning this unit before. think I gained any new brain cells from learning this unit?? Happy Sewing Bonnie!
I have some of that border fabric! (I think it's just a fat quarter.) Anyway, kudos for changing your binding fabric - the new one looks so much better!
I’ve learned to never select my border fabric until the squares are pieced into a top. I tend to bind with the same fabric I use on the outer border. I do love a quilt with borders.
My family recently suffered a tragic loss of life. Reading this blog has made me think about this project: I’ve not touched a sewing machine in over two weeks. But, I do think tomorrow I will start back on this wonderful project. Thank you for beautiful patterns. Bonnie, you are the only quilt designer from whom I’ve made multiple quilts. Phyllis
Awe... very seldom both girls get some blog time. :-) They're looking well!
I very seldom prep the binding ahead... it's usually the last thing I think of. Today we are just trying to make it to the end until Christmas break. 2 more days... 2 more days! Then it's time to rest & pet the fabric in the closet. HA!
Happy quilting!
Yes, the binding change was the right one!
The new choice in binding says "stop" much better than the first choice. I have changed a binding choice many times. When the quilt is laid out it just looks different than it did in my head! lol
This is a gorgeous quilt, Bonnie! I love the colors! And, yes, the binding you used is fabulous!
I love the four patch quilt. Still piecing my blocks and using up 2” strips. I often change my mind on binding at the end. The print you chose is one I used to have in my stash and I wish I had a little bit more to add to my four patch fun blocks! Janequiltsslowly.
