Memorial Day 2024

Flag Season has begun!

Before the Quilters of the Night arrived - I took a quick swoop through the house and put away all of the "spring" things and pulled out the red, white & blue full stop.

I didn't realize just how many patriotic quilts I had - or even those that would pass for patriotic - as in our last mystery, Indigo Way!

Here in the front foyer I have hung my Solidarity quilt, and on the table is Courthouse Square.

"Flag Season" for me starts mid May with Armed Forces Day followed Memorial Day and includes Flag Day in June, Independence Day in July and all the way through Labor Day early September.

This year I pulled out an "oldie but goodie" to hang in the Hen Den.

This is my Ohio Stars & Rails quilt (Free Patterns tab) started after 9/11. Piecced this one manically during those early days after 9/11 and then continued on to hand quilt it with Baptist Fans.

It will hang her through September 11 in remembrance.

Who doesn't love a simple triple Irish Chain in red, white, blue?

What? It's not scrappy? Nope!

I made this for my friend Denice who had opened a quilt shop in Waxahachie, Texas.  It was a shop display. to feature the revolutionary war print.

The Wrong Way Round version of my Right Way Round quilt is atop the big giant buffet. 

It's a square quilt so the remainder is just hanging down the back between the wall and the buffet.  Whatever works!

This Memorial Day I am keeping in mind that the purpose of this day is to remember those who gave their all - their lives - and never made it home.

Memorial Day is a time to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedoms, while Veterans Day is an opportunity to thank all who have served in the armed forces.

Yesterday's hike took us down Bear Branch Road to see if the damage had been repaired - it had!

It was a lovely walk - only took about an hour and we got 2 miles in - ready and raring to get back to quilting. I know it's hard to pull yourself away to go do something like take a walk - just do it!

Today? It's been raining since last night.  Today's possible hike up to to see the ponies has been rained out.

I'm planning on just taking this day the easy way and enjoying the folks at Quiltville Inn - it's their last day and they head home tomorrow.
