What a great Over-The-Porch-Rail DAY!

So many beautiful quilts displayed by Susan's Retreat ladies - some tops started or finished at retreat, some finishes brought from last year's retreat and used on beds and brought for display.

It's a homecoming of quilts when something started last year comes back as a finish for its final porch rail photo shoot!

If I'm remembering right - the bulk of this group came from Indiana bringing friends from Illinois, Tennessee, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

As happens with all groups of friends....some folks move away, and joining together at retreat is a fun way to catch up once a year.

Virginia Bound from Scraps & Shirttails, Rockabilly Swing , Buffalo Plaid and "something cartwheels" that I can't remember the real name of!  If you know, please leave it in the comments below.

The first three I don't know the names of - but that last one is the center of Indigo a Go-go from String Frenzy.

An unknown patriotic beauty followed by two wonderful mystery finishes: Rhododendron Trail and Chilhowie.

Don't you love how changing colors can make things look so different?

Chilhowie followed by Allietare, another patriotic piece designated for Quilts of Valor, a scrappy star and Arkansas Crossroads out of saved recycled shirts.

It doesn't get much more fun than this!

And see how that dogwood tree's leaves are turning colors?

Thanks for the wonderful week, ladies!  And also thanks for paying no attention to the 2 1/2 hour nap I took in bedroom 5 - not that you even knew I was there since I slunk in the back door and crept up the stairs and was out like a light while trying to get through this bronchitis and jet lag.

Yesterday left me with some time to zone out and work on some blocks.  It feels so good to just be feeding pieces through the machine again.

While this is a vintage block for a signature quilt, I don't really have a name for it.  I just saw it in an old quilt and thought "Aha! That's fun!"

I'm loving the 30s prints mixed with the recycled plaids for a real home-spun scrap bag look.

But I have to tell you - this working with a solid white as a background is going to drive me around the bend!

I do think it is perfect for this, though.  The vintage prints have too much white in them and are too busy to pair well with other busy background neutral prints.

I chose the white because at this point it is all about enhancing the contrast if I am going to use these 30's scraps up.

Today:  The Shippenstitchers are arriving this afternoon from Shippensburg, PA!

Housekeeper Susan and I will be putting on the finishing touches and see them pull in around 4pm.

Today's high is only 61.  I had to turn the heat on in the basement studio.

I think our porch time at the inn is limited at best.
