This morning I am waving a fond farewell and wishing safe travels to the Naughty Room Quilters who have brightened everywhere they've been in the past week!
It has been WONDERFUL!
Usually with every group there is someone I've met on my way - either through teaching for their local guild, or a show, or a lecture - or perhaps even an international trip.
There are several of these ladies that I've known from other occasions in other places, and to be able to open this lovely old home for them has been such an honor.
Checkerboard Rails, Wild & Goosey from the Addicted to Scraps book, Jamestown Landing from String Fling, (TWO OF THEM!) A lovely scrappy string quilt, and Cathedral Stars from the Free Patterns tab!
Pfeffernusse from String Fling, (With the additional borrowed border from Talkin’ Turkey in the same book!) two Cathedral Stars side-by-side, Texas Tumbleweed from MORE Adventures with Leaders & Enders, and a wonderful purple hexie quilt!
A beautiful quilt in purple batiks, Boxy Stars from the Free Patterns tab, our Unity quilt, and a beautiful My Blue Heaven (in purple) also from the Free Patterns tab!
Yesterday's fun on the porch -
Shirt deboning!
There was a prize for the first one done.
It had been a while since I have cut apart a shirt - and oh, the feel of the fabric in my hands - and a pair of good, sharp shears.
I'm getting that hankering again! I loved making Sugar Top earlier this year using those lovely shirt fabrics. I'm wanting to dive right back in to that shirt bin and make something warm, cozy and very plaid!
I do believe that everyone shared parts of their shirts with each other so they are well on their way to enough variety to start something.
I grabbed a few design wall shots before heading home yesterday afternoon. Progress has been made, and I had a great time teaching Jared Takes a Wife (Free Patterns tab) to this lovely group of women.
Noemi's blocks are coming along!
Beautiful!
And other projects got worked on too!
This cutie will be a baby boy quilt -
Oooh! This corner is full of wonderful color!
Have a safe trip home, Naughty Room Quilters - we'll see you again next August!
I started a small projected of my own yesterday.
I was doing a clean up of my cutting table - and I had the demo pieces for Rocky Road to Grayson right there - I only needed to sew on some yellow background triangles onto a few of the units, and then decide what to make with it!
I'll share what it came out to be in tomorrow's post - but in the mean time:
This quilt was so much fun to make!
The consistent placement of the red star points in the sashings also make this quilt look a bit more color-planned. All of the yellow backgrounds add an air of scrappiness but they still read as ONE color.
And while the neutral strips in the sashings are random - the blue sashings come from one constant fabric. Also another way to give a quilt a sense of a planned outcome.
It just works!
I used the Creative Grids 45 degree ruler to trim my string pieced units.
I printed my block quarter templates on Carol Doak’s Foundation Paper.
Are you excited to dive in??

And here we go again!
How are things going in your neck of the woods with summer winding down?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Vintage quilt from my collection.
I am still choosing happiness today.
Is there anything a scrappy four-patch can't make better?
And wheels are turning as I consider how fun this simple quilt would be in recycled shirt fabrics?
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Those scrappy four-patches really speak to me, too. My scrap bins are stuffed full and ready to be used!! Thanks for your on-going inspiration.
Shirt Deboning sounds fun! Love seeing all the Over the Porch photoes Happiness is a choice. I choose it also. Scrappy makes me Happy!!❤
These are beautiful quilts!!
I have a-binding question. When you hand sew your binding down, what size thread are you using? And do you use it singly or doubled? Thanks for your response!
I have some vintage salesman's samples I might try to use. I really like this block design.
De-boning shirts is one of my favorite "outside of the quilting room" quilting activities. I can debone shirts while watching TV with the husband and kids in the evening, or take a few shirts with me if I have to wait somewhere for my kids, etc. I keep a small, simple kit of the tools I use so that it's grab-and-go.
Yeah, it's super satisfying and mindless at the same time. Once you start down the shirt path... it's addictive.
The quilt pieces in the picture with Lola looks like ice cream cones. Can you tell what is on my mind.
May we meet Susan the wonder woman housekeeper? She seems to be an integral part of the process. Does she sew? Quilt? Is the bug biting her?
