This is one pitiful girl.
She was acting a bit “sad” and out of sorts yesterday afternoon, and I couldn’t figure out what the problem was. We even took a 3 hour nap together and she just didn’t seem like herself.
It wasn’t until Jeff came home and tried to get her to roll over for her usual “tricks for treats” time when we noticed she wouldn’t roll.
Upon closer inspection we found she had a 3” or more gash in her side. Not bleeding, but definitely oozing. More than simply skin deep.
There we were at 8pm on Halloween night at the emergency 24 hour vet.
We think she tried to crawl UNDER The neighbor’s chain link fence to play with their dog as they are great friends. We don't’ know for sure.
The chain link fence is a recent addition at our neighbor’s, put up so that their dog could run free without running free, and now there is a fence between two friends to deal with.
Sit on the scale, Sadie. Good girl!
Jeff stayed with me and it is so appreciated. He works construction during the day, with a side line of doing kitchen cabinet installation. He is driving Uber at night. He gave up his Uber time to stay with me and Sadie.
The process took a long time. 24 hour vet clinics can be very busy places as our furry friends get into all kinds of problems, and not always 9 to 5! There were a few other laceration cases ahead of Sadie so they kept her back while Jeff and I made a run to Taco Bell, realizing that we hadn’t had dinner yet and were starving by 10pm. Not much else open at that hour and the drive up line was a mile long. We opted for inside.
And yes, I had my busy bag with me!
Never leave for an appointment of any kind without it!
This border length is growing. I’m nearly half way on it already thanks to long flights to China and back. More long flights upcoming in the near future.
In the car heading home.
She really did a good one this time. NO exercise allowed. No roaming, only potty time outside, and the rest of the time she needs to be still and quiet. Ice packs on the incision area 3 to 5 times a day for swelling. No stairs, no jumping, no running, no playing, no up on the bed as she is used to. Pain meds and antibiotics. Oh, Sadie!
As soon as this posts I’m headed to the store to get her some soft food because she needs to have one of the meds with food and the dry kibble just won’t do it.
I’ve got some of this to look forward to!
Hopefully by evening you’ll find me down here (after carrying her down stairs!) to do some simple piecing after post office closing time.
For those who tried to order the Simple Folded Corners Rulers and the Essential Triangle Tool and found them out of stock – never fear. More are on their way. We have time. I’ll post again as soon as they are back in stock. I am unable to take back orders at this time as it creates a mess with my inventory system. I may be having to fly to Idaho for a funeral within the next several days – date pending – and that just adds to the stress, so thank you for understanding.
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
Today, try some random words of kindness. Your own day may be made brighter!
I love the Simplicity of this nine patch quilt, I feel the need to make something like it coming on!
Welcome to November, everyone!

Oh for the love of friends that have gotten us all into a bit of mischief and maybe more over the years. Poor Sadie will have stories to tell now :) Sorry this year seems to be handing you more than a fair share of trying moments and hard decisions. Keep thinking of those sunsets and breathe...one step and one day at a time. Thank you for all you do!
Oh Dear...Prayers & Big Hugs go out to Miss Sadie & You both...You are so Dear to me & I sympathize with your troubles right now..I will be holding your hand Bonnie..
Debra in Ma.
Hope Sadie is feeling better soon. I give my Sadie her daily meds in a cube of velveeta cheese. At 15 1/2 years old she needs her pills twice a day and always reminds me if I forget because she loves her cheese!
So sorry, Bonnie.....It's so sad when our pets are hurt/in pain. Hoping she heals quickly. Big hugs from Texas.
Our fur babies are very special. My sewing buddy is 11 and has a cancerous growth on one of his tonsils...Monty is on steroids to slow the growth. We thank God for each day we have with him..
Oh Bonnie, relax with your fur baby for now.
Also, do the things that must be done in your personal life and don't ever apologize for them.
There shouldn't be a person in the world that doesn't support another human being during times of sadness, grief or loss You give so much to so many and ask for so little. Let your family know your quilting family have them in our hearts.
P.S. You can't keep a good dog down.
Having been to the emergency vet a time or two, you have my sympathies. Glad you figured out what the problem was and got her patched up. Seems there might need to be a fence reassessment since it might be the neighbor's dog next time. No good suggestions though.
All poor Miss Sadie, take care of your girl and yourself right now don't worry about trying to please everybody in cyber world. Know that you are loved by many and we support you.
Poor Baby - Its hard to know whats wrong with our furry kids - glad you had Jeff to stay and help - sweet kid!! ( I know not a kid, but indulge me - he was when you started blogging! ha ha)
Poor Sadie. Hard when the fur babies are down. Glad your son was there. Prayers for you and your family at this time
So sorry you have had this emergency with Sadie but glad you were able to find the problem and deal with it. Once they get used to the collar it doesn't usually bother them too much. (Ask me how I know.......many problems with one of my fur Babies!) As for giving meds with food, we gave pills wrapped in chunky peanut butter, chunky so they can't separate the pill from the coating. Another solution is cheese. Velveta is great because it's sticky, but any works, even cream cheese. If you give it before or after you feed them it fills the bill.,
Prayers for you and your family as you deal with so much sadness.
Poor Sadie! I hope she feels better soon! So glad you had Jeff with you through this. Hugs
Hope things quiet down a bit for you.. Thank you for all you do. God bless you and your family.
Just keep sadness safe and comfortable as possible while she heals and leave everything else in God's hands
Should have said sadie, sorry

Aww, poor Sadie. Hope she heals quickly! Big hugs to all of you, and thank you for taking the time you give to us all for free, despite all the things going on in your life. You are truly a treasure Bonnie and I appreciate all you do.
Wow. Sure didn't need more stress. So sorry. Keep peddling
Oh my goodness, that poor baby girl! Hope the healing goes quickly.
Its all fun and games until somebody ends up in a cone.
Loving prayers, thoughts and blessings to you and all you love... our universes collide with regularity Love and thanks for all you do... be you, be happy, apologies are no necessary in any regard! xo xo you could tease us with a color or two... Cats
The poor pup! Hope she is back to her old self soon.
Poor Sadie, hope she is back to herself in no time. Cone of shame is no fun! Prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.
Oh, poor Sadie! I can so sympathise with your care and worries for your fur baby. I hope she feels a bit better soon. Also, looking at her picture with the big plastic collar reminded me that a friend of mine got her dog a soft version. How to explain it, it is like a disk made up of soft spirals (fabric with filling) that also keeps her from reaching whatever part she's not supposed to lick or scratch but is softer to lie with. Maybe that would be something for Sadie as well, if she needs it for more than a day or two. All the best!
So sorry about Sadie! I know how much you care about your furbabies! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors for the mystery! Caught up on all your china posts last night on a layover on my way home. Take care!
I love your quotes and quilts!
Dear Bonnie, We who love you know that life does tend to get in the way at the most unexpected moments. Fortunately, the fabric does not have an expiration date and it will be there waiting patiently for us. Please never feel pressured and know that we hold you in our hearts with all your trying days ahead. If the Mystery goes into early months of 2018, that is fine, too! For those of us who are never caught up..it will suit us just fine and everyone does not have to rush to play catch up. Thanks a million gazillion times for all that you do for us! Quilty hugs!
Thank goodness there ARE midnight vets, we don't want to have our fur-babies hurting!! Hope Sadie heals up quick and will be back to her normal self - and good luck with keeping her quite once she feels a little better!
So sorry about Saddie. Hope she is her old self soon
I saw the one liner about the funeral. My condolences go out to your husband, you, and the family. Share the memories with everyone there.
When our kids hurt, even the four legged furry kids, we hurt with them. Hugs for both you and Sadie. Good the gash was found and got her help asap.
Take time to breath deep and sit with her when you can, good for both of you.
Hugs
JulieinTN
If Sadie doesn't like the cone of shame, a babygro worked for us recently - difficult getting the size right but my dog was happy to wear it - mostly to keep our other 2 dogs away from her stitches.
Poor Sadie!
Oh poor Sadie. And you!!! My Sadie says she hopes your Sadie has a speedy recovery, and NO more going under fences!!!
I hope you get the rest you need so you can stress less. Sounds like a lot on your plate right now.
I guess I got my order in for your book and the ruler in time. I have an email that says they are on their way! Thank you for all you do! I am loving that I found you online!!!
Poor Sadie. It must be hard to see, but get to your friend. Glad to see you had some family assistance.
All of you take care of yourselves.
I hope Sadie recovers soon. can't have her on the collar too long. Dogs are always trying to ruin fences.. my Poppy had been dismantling the chain link fencing at the bottom so that he can get to my goat house to sleep at the deck. He guards the goat house fiercely. I wish we do not need fencing but then again I have over 20 heads of mischievous goats
Oh Bonnie, one step at a time as you go through these days with troubles. Thank God for all the help you need to get through them with grace and love. We can wait for you.
Bonnie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your sweet family. And that includes Sadie. I am so excited to get looking for the fabric for this years mystery. I keep checking daily for the ruler to be in. Thank you for all you do for us. You are Amazingly Awesome!!!
I'm thankful you took Sadie in and got the gash checked out. Sad pup fase with that Cone. Late Night Taco Bell, lol. Your Busy bag does come in very Handy. I ned to get mine loaded for a Road trip. Take care and know I am keeping your family in my Prayers.
Hi Bonnie. I'm so sorry that you are having so much going on and a lot of stress. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Oh dear Sadie does get into some scrapes. Or should I say gashes! Poor thing.
And hugs for you and the family at this sad time. xx
Wishing Sadie a speedy recovery! Poor gal - all she wanted to do was play.
May you have some warmth and peace with your family in the coming days, Bonnie.
Poor Sadie. Dogs are a determined lot aren't they. Maybe you and the neighbor can find a spot along the fence line that you can make a visiting door so she and her friend can play without one of them getting hurt again.
My friend and I are going to get our paint chips for the Mystery tomorrow. I have been wanting to get the folded corners ruler and the buddy ruler for weeks. Every time I look one or the other is out of stock, no complaints, just is. Gave up and ordered what was available and a book I needed for a class I'm taking with the Napa Valley guild this coming April. You have shipped them already. Wow. I will order the other ruler and arrow stickers for my friend and I when they come in. The Mystery doesn't start for awhile and I need to finish last years mystery first anyway. The units are finished and put into sections. I just need to get the sections together and quilt it. Too many quilts part way done, but then again isn't that everyone's bane and delight. Be calm all things end so that new ones can begin.
Hi, Bonnie.
So sorry to hear about Sadie and the funeral. Both are sad circumstances.
A note about the fence: check whether the bottom is cut and has spikes on it. Depending on whether the dogs can jump higher than the fence, your neighbor may be able to put the "knuckle" side of the fence at the bottom, if they can't. Otherwise the fencing needs to be replaced with double "knuckle" fence, with finished edge top and bottom. I used to sell chain link and that was a question I always asked to ensure the safest fence for pets/children.
does Sadie get satellite reception now?
Bonnie, one event after another but know that we are all behind you on what you are dealing with. Prayers going out to you this day.
Hope Sadie is feeling better soon.
Sorry to hear about Sadie; I hope she is on the mend very soon. Oh, what lovely colors you have picked for the mystery quilt! Try to get some rest.
Oh, dear--an emergency vet visit on top of everything else. I'm glad it was for something so quickly diagnosed and treated. May I make a quick suggestion that we've found helpful lately? If the soft dog food isn't a winner when you're giving Sadie her meds, we are having incredible luck with the creamy Philly cream cheese (the kind that comes in a tub). One less battle to fight and our dogs think they're getting a treat. Just a thought, from one pet-loving family to another.
My condolences on the loss of your father-in-law. xxx
At least you were back home and Sadie wasn't too sick. They certainly get themselves into pickle sometimes. Glad she's home and doing better. Thank you for doing another mystery this year. After all the drama the last couple of years, I wouldn't have been surprised if you decided to stop.
Poor Sadie...so glad you have an emergency vet close by. My fur babies seem to only have issues off hours but I am oh so thankful that they are pretty close by. Good luck with keeping that sweetie quiet. I’m sure she is so glad to have her mama home. Get well soon, sweet girl💕
Get well soon Sadie!
When my doggies wind up with surgery, I use a pack and play that I got at a resale shop. They have each stayed in it for 6 weeks! Only going out to potty. I dragged it though the house so they could be with me. funny thing is how accepting of their restriction they each were. No complaining at all! They each had $2000 surgeries which made me highly motivated to follow the doctors instructions afterwards.
Bonnie, the easiest way to get a pill (s) down a dog is with braunsweiger (it comes in a tube) The dogs love the liverwurst taste and the pills go right down...
Sorry so much for your pooch..hope she heals ok..
My little one is one the tail end of 'down time' and pain meds. The vet figures she pinched a nerve in her shoulder area - 3 weeks of no up, down, stairs, etc. The time does go by, and she is very good now, but I still have a few days of being careful (if we follow the vets instructions to the letter.
It does get better, but Sadie won't believe you!! Hugs to you both!
