Box Kite off the Long Arm!

20141203_075437
Do you see this sweet little block with the bunnies?  It’s my favorite block in the whole quilt!

Well today it is.  The whole block came from gifted scraps and that center green square sparkles with glitter!

I NEVER buy fabric with shiny metallic bits and effects in it – it’s just not where my tastes roll, but there is so much freedom when making a scrap quilt, you can truly break ALL of the rules, even your own, and get a huge case of the giggles by putting a bright and sparkling piece of fabric next to something softer, more formal, more stately and subdued, or even with a novelty print or two.

When the light hits this block just right, the glitter just winks at me and reminds me that even quilters love their bling sometimes – and it shows even in our fabrics!

I’m up early this morning, so I came down to finish the last two rows of quilting on the Box Kite quilt.

Off the machine!

Look at that fun quilting texture!

20141203_074924

More fun fabric combos.

See my Canada Maple Leaf block?  That was made with fabric gifted to me by my friend Brenda when we were in England together this August.  So many fun memories!

I quilted this quilt with a maize/gold thread, using a pantograph called Plume.  More info on yesterday’s post HERE.

20141203_074939

My plan for binding!

I’m going to bind it with this black batik speckled with color.

When binding a quilt where the pieced border is the LAST border, I want to be sure not to cut off any  too many points in the process, so my binding needs to be 1/4” finished.  I trim my quilt 1/4” from those triangle points, and then make my binding out of a 2” strip of fabric.

I like my bindings narrow, full and tight, and this ensures that I get the finish I want on this quilt.

But that will come much later today.

Right now, I need your prayers.

Sadie Jane is a bit under the weather.

I’m off to the vet today.  Sadie has blood in her urine, yelps when jumping up or getting down, is having difficulty navigating stairs ((Because I think it hurts her to make any jarring movements)) and her mood is just a downer.

I’m hoping it is something as simple as a UTI or Kidney infection.  But she is nearly 10.

Dogs don’t live NEARLY long enough.  And it is so hard to watch her slow down and age before my eyes.

I keep telling myself to stop dreading the worst until I have all the facts, but I’m tearing eyed and heart heavy this morning and I’m taking her in.

I’ll let you know what I find out when I find out.

Sending good wishes to Sadie. I know how important our furry friends are. My Golden, Hoover, and I are the same age so that helps on the walking. He is almost 12 and I am almost 75. Where does time go!

So sorry to hear Sadie is feeling poorly, prayers being said.

The Box Kite quilt is gorgeous. I love all the light/neutral in it. I remember the Krispy Kreme fabric, that is my favorite block!

Best thoughts for the vet trip.

No, our dogs don't live long enough and time passes so quickly! I'll be praying for Sadie hoping that it's a simple infection and she can get some meds to knock it out! Bless that sweet girl :-)

Sadie and you are in our prayers today. Try not to worry. It is most likely something kidney related. Did she get a lot of scraps during the holidays? She may need to go on a strict diet for a while. Happened to mine and she lived a long time after that once she was on the special diet. Hugs!

Let's hope for a UTI and some good meds to clear her troubles up. It is hard to watch our pups age. Daisy, greater swiss mt dog, is 11 which is getting to the top of the ladder for her breed.

I never purchase glitter fabric either but this year, some of the new lines with gold were gorgeous.

Positive thoughts and here's hoping it is nothing serious!!

I'm going to guess just an infection. Sadie is pretty healthy with all that walking you two do together. Hugs and loves to Sadie. Cuddle with your buddy when you get her back home. You two can YOWL together... till meds help you both recover.

My prayers are with you and Sadie for a simple diagnosis and quick recovery. Been there with a 14 yr old dog who had been on steroids for severe skin allergies, so of course I feared kidney damage when I saw blood in the urine. It was a UT infection that quickly resolved with antibiotics, much to our relief. Hoping for the same for Sadie.

Box Kite is one of my favorites among the quilts you've made recently. So colorful and lively!

I always enjoy seeing Sadie's sweet, earnest face in your posts. I hope she's able to bounce back quickly from whatever's ailing her today. Give her a good scratch behind the ears from all of us.

Good news about your bright and beautiful Box Quilt finish. I cant thank you enough for making me comfortable with using scraps and all you offer so willingly and enthusiastically in your blog.
Not so good news about Sadie, but hopefully easily treated and cured. Co-incidentally, i had a call back from my vet today regarding pathology report on Maggie's eye. She is my sweet calico, just over 16. She had her left eye removed a week ago following 6 weeks of treatment that went nowhere. It appears the eye was a secondary site for a tumor. So it looks like we move into palliative care until that is no longer keeping her comfortable.

We let our animal family into our lives and hearts where they keep us company and give unconditional love all through their all to short lives. Be well Sadie.

Anxiously awaiting news of Sadie. I am a vet tech, so I know this could be any number of things. In answer to your question, I truly believe dogs and cats don't live as long as us so that we can love and care for many in our lifetime. There are so many waiting for our love. Sadie surely knows yours.

Oh Bonnie. Our beloved pets are so much a part of our families. Our golden lived to be 16 years old. In her last year of life she developed those ailments common to goldens, hip problems and lukemia. What a joy she was and now another 16 years have passed and we still miss her. Here's praying for the best for your Sadie. May she have many wonderful years ahead of her yet.

Poor Sadie. We have a dachshund with recurrent bladder infections. We love our dogs to death and wouldn't give them up but it is so sad when they pass away. There is always another dog waiting at a shelter for our love as we got our two doxies from a shelter and they are a joy. Hoping she will recover soon.

Unknown said...

I will have Sadie in my heart all day. I will say a small prayer for her and you today. Sending warm hugs for you both.

My two pets are proof that prayers help pets as well as us humans. Our Golden, Murphy (8 yrs.), had surgery this summer to remove a cancerous lump on his side. He has fully recovered. My cockatiel, Missy (14 yrs.), was very sick this summer, too. She was even having convulsions. She slept in a small box right in my bed, so I could hold her during the convulsions and keep her from flapping around in her cage. It took about six weeks of gradual recovery and she is now 100% well, too. Thankfully, God answered our prayers for both of them. Prayers going out today for Sadie.

I will say a prayer for you and Sadie. I just lost my sweet little kitty last week, and I know how hard it is when our pets are ill and we don't know what's wrong. Hopefully it will be a simple fix.
