The basement/ground level of the cabin is a wonderful space---but there will be some fixing to set it up for sewing production area.
The table with the checkered cloth was already here. I brought my blue Wizard, Petula and my 301A, Dottie with me. I need a machine with a walking foot to apply a binding so that is why I brought Petula---the 301 goes in the card table I've set at the end---there is plenty of room in this space.
There needs to be better light and I'll have some fluorescents installed in the ceiling at some point. Right now there are other things that are higher up the ladder--but lighting is important to me so we have temporarily
Remedied the situation with the use of halogen floodlights. It will work for now!
The other side of the basement is the family room, and I've set up the treadle in the corner so I can sew and watch tv with everyone else.
The light spots on the pine paneling is where photos were removed when the sellers left---I'm thinking these will be best hidden by hanging quilts!
Little by little we are making this spot our own.
I've got the binding ready to apply to the quilt with the pieced backing--i sewed it on the treadle! I was going to do that at home but I ran out of time and DH was ready to roll so I will put it on while up here--the first sewing project of the new cabin!

Yes, those lights definitely get HOT . . . we use those on Fire Dept. incident scenes - they work great, but be careful in a confined space, don't want to have to call 911!!

Congrats on the cabin. It looks wonderful. I think the pieced back quilt deserves to live in the cabin as it was part of the first sewing project there. And I agree about those lights. Should keep you nice and warm in the winter.
Try Liquid Gold on the paneling. It makes a big difference. I have given my bottle to many people to try and they are amazed at the final results. By the way...ya did good!!! Love the cabin. You deserve it!!
A design wall and some quilts will cover all the walls!!!!
I'm so happy for you! Since the photos left a spot on the wall I'm wondering if the light from the windows will also make the fabric from your quilt fade. Might be something to watch for. You're going to have a lot of fun setting up another sewing room!

I brought the treadle that we had at our cottage in Northern Indiana to Purdue. In flat pattern and design I made a coat dress out of double wool crepe. It had patch pockets, with a flap, and a strip of fabric though the center of the pocket. I could not get the Singer mc's in the sewing labs to go through 6-8 layers of fabric. The treadle stitched through all of layers and made a prefect stitch!

Nice area. Have you thought about painting the paneling?? DH and I did that years ago to a vacation trailer that we didn't want to take the dark paneling down and didn't want to spend a lot of money on wall board. We primed and then painted it. Nowadays, the primer is already in the paint...much quicker :) It really made a huge difference. It brightened up the room, naturally, but it also made it appear larger.

Nice space. Be careful with those lights. They get very hot. Ask me how I know. (Ouch) They are bright and will give you lots of light.

Just saying..remember the light from the window that made those faded spots on the walls from their pictures will also affect your quilts.

You are off to a good start! If the light from the window faded the paneling, think about what it will do to your quilt! There is a film you can put on the window that can help block that destroying UV light and still get some light from outside... forget what its called. I'll let you know if I can find it again.

What a great area for you, I would wash the wall first with Murphy oil then see.. Make it a wall hanging for quilts/ design hanging all in one. Great house for you and your family.
