March 12th Quilt-Cam!

Yes, we are still dealing with Ustream with ads.  That FIASCO last week has turned into something we can all laugh about ---so I am very leery of any other locations to host Quilt-Cam.

I received several emails about using Google Hangouts – but you can only have 9 or so people on screen at one time – and I’m not sure how to set it up so that it is just me --- and have it live streaming so you can watch – and then the whole problem of leaving comments and how to answer them comes in – so we are still dealing with wheels turning ---and will just stay where we are for now because it is better than no quilt cam at all!

This is Arlo!  His photo was sent after our last Quilt-Cam.

His mama Liz, writes:

Here's Arlo, patiently waiting for Quilt Cam to end since he thinks its WAY past lunchtime here on the west coast. He's conveniently blocking the path to the ironing board.....

Liz & Arlo in Kent, WA

What a cutie!

I also have a photo of a real beauty from Lorraine who is all geared up for Quilt-Cam with her hand crank machine!

128k

She writes:

She's very anxious to play tonite.  Meet my new friend.  She's a convert, as she has had a motor-ectomy and now dons a hand crank.  She began life as black side Singer 128.  She's going to be on some string triangles tonight!
As for me – I thought I was going to treadle, but I’ve changed my mind.

sisterschoice1 009

Remember before I left that I had to do some duffel bag repair on a handle on the quilt bags?  This is the machine that finally got the job done.  Sophia is a 1958 Necchi Supernova Ultra.  And she told me she wants to do more than just fix bags and stuff when I need a zig zag.  She loves to sew pretty things too…..so I’ve got her all set with her 1/4” marked and we will be building Sisters Choice block parts on her tonight.

Are you ready to come play? It’s been a while! We have a lot of catching up to do!

I can see you, sound was choppy, but is getting better. Sew on!

Bonnie, my new treadle is in place, but due to the carpet I am going to have to put little risers under her, so I'm cutting sashing for my Moth-in-the-Window quilt. You're loud and clear.

Anonymous said...

I've got a throw quilt taped to the floor for basting...will be watching you direct from the ustream site because it works better on my Acer tablet. Not at home, so glad I can still watch from snowy Haliburton, Ontario, tonight!

I didn't have sound, I refreshed my page and it came back. But it keeps going out.

Mary said...

I didn't have sound the first time but re-loaded and now have you loud and clear

The sound pops on and off, but it seems like it has to do with your connection or something since it goes all pixelly when the sound goes off

Can't seem to connect at all tonight, no sound no picture.

Sandie said...

By our video feed is fine, but sound keeps going in and out. When you were initially setting up, I was already waiting for QuiltCam, and the first few seconds were of the last program when you were announcing that it was ad free, then that disappeared and the trouble started! Lol!

Tricia Benes said...

the picture is fine now but the sound keeps coming and going. tricia

Sandra Henderson said...

When u first came on, was replaying old video...ou were saying its ad free....
So, now its current, but choppy. I just dan want u to be stuck with another bill if u r on "high price network"....
Otherwise, we'll just tik it out and hear what we can.
Maybe call someone to have life feedback on whatis going on on our side

Mary Ellen said...

Just now some strange man's voice clicked in for a couple of seconds, kind of like when lines get crossed when you are on the phone. I suspect problems from the ustream end.

Marsha A. Black said...

Bonnie, I forgot to ask what the name of the treadle is. I'd hate to confuse her by changing her name. Marsha

Debbie Lou said...

It has improved since I posted this. But the sound still drops sometimes.

Are your hot pinks going to be a constant in this new quilt...meaning all the same pink fabric or scrappy hot pinks?
And I guess I will never know as the sound left again! HA!

Hi Bonnie, Joyce in Maryland. Love quilt cam! I have a question, do you know anything about Gracie II quilting frames? I have a chance to purchase a new one for a really great price. Thanks, Joyce.

Valerie said...

Yep, Ustream is definitely messing with you tonight. Says you're off air now at 9:18 ET.

So good to be back with you on Quilt Cam tonight. I'm hemming an embroidered sampler so I can watch along. My aging computer is due to be upgraded...next round I think I'll get a laptop with wireless so I can watch down the hall in my sewing room!

Getting lots of ads tonight -- U-Stream must be making up for "no ads" last time! LOL!

Carol said...

Hexie question. How do you cut the single hexies out? Do you cut squares from fabric and pin a paper then cut around leaving a seam allowance, or what is the process. I'm a newbie and just starting. Can't find from several tutorials I've watched what is a good method.

Anonymous said...

I can not get the feed either. I guess not tonight. Have fun!

Mary W Quilts said...

HeybBonnie, you may need to to check link or reset. Not working on any devices now. I have never had. Problem before. Thank you, hope it is fixed soon. Mary

Karen said...

Hi Bonnie! Working on hexies again as I watch quilt cam. While going through old magazines trying to declutter, I came across a hint. Use a small bulletin board (approx. 10x14) across your lap when you hand piece. I can stick pins in it and it has a frame so nothing slides off. Simple, but good! Love your quilt cam! Thanks,
Karen in Iowa

Upstream is working great for me with the occasional ad. The funny thing is that it's in French! I don't know why, but they are always in French, which I had to take in school but don't speak that well, so at least the ads are easy to tune out. From Haliburton, Ontario.

I am so happy to have you on quilt cam. My birthday so this is making me very happy.

At least I can watch you on my hubby's PC, I tried booting up my 2 month old Mac Book Pro and guess what? She's soooo dead, it won't even boot up to the desktop...trying hard not to cry at this point. Thank goodness for some nice patchwork to take the edge off, and thank goodness I have my work backed up elsewhere outside that laptop!
I'm working on an improvisational pieced auction quilt right now, lots of colour and fun patchwork. Just what I need!

That's so weird that people are complaining that there are issues tonight. When I tuned in, I getting better streaming and audio than I usually do.

Hi Bonnie - I found a group of women who are teaching others to quilt. Spent three hours cutting log cabin blocks for two ladies and teachin a third how to hand quilt. They are so grateful that I am willing to share what I know, even though it is not all that much. I can understand why you love to teach.

Bonnie, don't know whether to hug you or hate you VBG! I got my first treadle a couple of weeks ago after wanting one for ages, and am expecting my second one the week after Easter. When it rains it pours, right? The first one is a Davis Vertical Feed 2. It was a hoot learning all about it. The one that's coming is a Singer Phoenix. And I feel like I'm spending all my free time prowling Craigslist now. Thanks for Quiltcam. I'm watching on my desktop as my ipad won't pull it in. Hang in there. Thanks.

430 days... that is how long it took me to complete Orca Bay. It is done and I am proud to say I used only stash fabrics except for the back.

Stephanie Newman said...

Yes its totally under warranty and the store I got it from is great with returns, so I know they'll replace it or fix it.
You're right about patchwork being good for the soul. I'm loving seeing your Necchi BTW,lovely colour.

Watching you tonight on my tablet from the USTREAM site -- cracking up at the non-English commercials. Meanwhile, I'm sewing cornerstones to sashing for a 4-patch stacked posy quilt. I'd like to get them finished tonight as my sister is coming over tomorrow. She wants me to teach her how to quilt -- I've pointed her to your patterns and will let her dig through my pre-cut scraps and stash.

UFOQueen said...

Yeah I see you! Today I had jury duty and I brought along some hand sewing to keep me busy. It was a small piece for my guild auction and I got the binding done plus the label and hanging sleeve! It made the time fly!

Bonnie - - menopause causes the loss of "nouns" - google it if you can't believe it. Well before Oprah revealed this common symptom, my mom warned me. I don't know what's worse, sounding like a demented person, or night sweats...sigh. I work with some 'youngsters' (twenty-somethings) who try their best to help me find my nouns. I spent two days trying to come up with "initiative" for a report. They offered innovation, invention, intervention...lots of suggestions. I knew what it meant, and could describe it, and I knew it started with an "I". I'm telling you...getting old is tough! But I suppose it's also a privilege.

I watched for an hour, and then my top spool ran out - - too cranky to find the new spool I just bought, and rethread, so I'm calling it a night. I missed you while you were gone!

So glad you are home and back at Quilt Cam. Working great here, not fuzzy at all. Sound and all looking good. No ads on my end. Running you through Google browser. You do know that you wil not be able to please everyone all the time. Thank you for all that you do!!!!!

Joyce said...

Bonnie, I am not sure what is going on with your web cam but I have all the ads but not you. Hopefully it will be better next time you are on, maybe Sunday.

Mary Ellen said...

Yep, you're gone again. Catch up with you on Friday.

Today is a weird day on the internet. Here in MD we are having problems connecting and its going so slow. Now on your web cam it says OFF LINE but I am getting you in different clothes on your treadle machine telling us your are now add free. Guess I will have to catch up with you on Sunday if you do it then. Joyce in MD.

Hi Bonnie,
Just a note to say how fun it is to spend time with you via quilt cam. Thanks for taking the time to share with us this way. Sorry that it was such a frustration today. I am sure we all realize that it was Ustreams issue. I especially enjoyed seeing your Necci; and the quilt you had behind you was gorgeous. I am piecing 2 quilts, using one as leaders and enders for the other.
