Recommended by Amy!

Amy in Wisconsin sent along a little Kindle freebie that she came across!

Of course, I jumped right on it and downloaded it ----it’s still free!

It’s called Blood Ties by JD Nixon.

Book Description:
Book 1 in the Little Town series. Police officer Tess Fuller has her hands full trying to maintain order in a poorly-resourced small mountain town overrun by the beautiful, arrogant and lawless Bycraft family. And nobody in town has suffered at their hands as much as the Fuller family.

But what will her new sergeant, Finn Maguire, a serious by-the-books city cop, think of her renegade policing style? And will they be able to work together to save Tess’ life when her feud with the Bycrafts escalates dangerously, while also trying to solve the intersecting mysteries of possible land fraud, an abandoned suitcase of money and a peeping tom with a preference for older women?
Okay, I admit it.  It was the last line that got me – especially after the Peeping Dave episode we had when DH was caught peeking in my basement window during Quilt-Cam and was seen by everyone watching, much to his embarrassment!  That still makes me giggle!

Download it while it’s still free and double check the price before clicking as always.

My morning ((and early afternoon)) have gone much like this!

I have ironed shirt fronts, backs, sleeves and yokes and am cutting them 8.5” wide by how ever long the piece can be.  Some pieces are longer than they are wide, and some are wider than they are long, but what matters is the width.  These will be sewn together quite randomly into panels to make a quilt back as big as I need it to be.

Unfortunately – the laundry basket that contained them decided to let them all loose at the same time on my floor:

I have a feeling I will be doing many of these kinds of backings to get this mess tamed up!

Some of the pieces are just too small to use in a backing and those are being set aside as either strings, or to be trimmed into strips of various widths.

Oh.  And I’m still in my Jammies!

((That is something that will change before Quilt-Cam happens tonight at 9pm Eastern!))

I have the same situation. The basket greets me every morning as I enter the bathroom. I like your solution, but, alas, Easy Street is waiting impatiently to be finished and I can't do any more cutting until it is done!

You should see my laundry room!~ lol I NEED to do this too. I have a high stack of shirts folded, waiting to be cut down and 2 shelves full.
Good for you for still being in your jammies!~ When I quit working, I gained a bunch of weight because those elastic and drawstrings don't let you know... I knew I was staying in them too much when I did laundry and half of it was pj bottoms and tshirts. lol You deserve more jammie days!~

You just tickle me so much, Bonnie. ahhhhhh, still in my jammies today too!!! Piecing is so much more comfty in jam-jams.
Our area is experiencing sleety/icy/ nasty weather. No paper delivered today even.
This is the perfect day to hunker down and cut, piece and sew. OH, you should have a steamy mug of hot chocolate with you too. Have to keep your energy up :0.

Looks like your hubby's closet exploded in your basement! I like the idea of cutting them into wide strips. I don't have shirt parts, but do have lots of older fabrics that could be put to use this way. I love days that I can stay in my jammies all day!

Strong work on the shirts! I love quilting in my jammies :-)

Oh how I wish I had seen your blog about using old shirts, not t-shirts, to make a quilt. I was asked to make 3 memory quilts for my cousin's wife and 2 sons when he passed away earlier this year. I have struggled because I couldn't find anything on the web that would have helped me. They are not as uniform as I would have liked but I think they will be loved as though a professional had done them. They just won't look like a professional worked on them.

DH started to put things into the drawers and on the shelves... not ironed of course! Which reminds me that things don't get tidied up, but just disappear. I have to remind me that I should Iron Things Before Putting Them Away... The pile on my ironing board is really growing, so, every one has her weak spots, mine is the pile of dry clean laundry that doesn't want to shrink. Need to make a quilt again, must iron, must tidy up, must, must, yik! The laundry basket though is empty, as I only have one =^}.....
Just noticed from the pile, that shirtings tend to really go worldwide, some checkers do look familiar 8^} (those reddish ones I happen to have purchased in a thrift shop in Scotland LOL).
As a rule, I stay in jammies when I really have to work in all kind of knotted up limbs and bodyparts, aka juglers' position. Works better than close-fitting jeans or the like!
From a cold and dark Amsterdam,
Love, Irene

I love it when you post the freebies for the Kindle. My 9 year old daughter has a Kindle, which I borrow. I have a Nook and looked up at Barnes and Noble to see if they had this same book. Not only do they have this book but another free from the same author called Heller that is also on the free list.
Your shirtings all over the floor is mild compared to the shape my sewing room is in right now. My 9 year old is getting a new bed today and we moved alot of her things out of her room to repaint it nd guess where all the stuff got moved to. My sewing room! Hope to go through everything, possibly get rid of some things and get everything cleaned up.
Can't wait to see what you have planned for Quilt Cam tonight.

Dealing with that pile from the laundry basket seems more appealing than the pile of clean laundry I have on my bed waiting to be folded, lol. Why is it more fun to iron and fold and cut fabric than it is to fold clothes?

Nothing wrong w/p.j.'s! Can't say as anyone watching Quilt Cam would have a problem with it! LoL... Specially after looking at all the comments above!
Seems I remember that ole saying "Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Or do with out"... and that's what your doing! Nothing wrong from where I sit!
Have a great day.... and keep warm!
We had a freezin rain yesterday and cars were slip-sliddin away all over the place! I stayed home so I could stay on my feet not my seat! LoL

I'm running for my Kindle right now before the price goes up. Thanks for the tip, Bonnie. I'm so glad to hear that quilt cam is tonight. I will be there!

Your day sounds preferable to mine. Eating lunch at my desk and doing a little recreational blog surfing on a grey Friday. I need a day at home in the sewing room with my jammies. Will try to finish up here with work in time to join Quilt Cam tonight.

It's been a good day for jammies in south central Kentucky cause we've been iced in most of the day. Temps are dropping below freezing again so it'll be a good night to stay in and enjoy QuiltCam. I downloaded the book too. Thanks!

Oh, boy, that is quite a mess you have there. That is one obsession I have managed to avoid so far. You already have me making scrap quilts, using leaders and enders, and buying old sewing machines. You are what my parents would have called a "bad influence." Anyway, any day in jammies is better than a day in the office!

I so love jammie days ... unfortunately they are far and few between lately ... gotta change that! Love those shirts ... makes me want to drag mine out and "debone" them. Probably a good thing to do during Quiltcam sometime!

We all sew in our jammies while watching QuiltCam...you should try it! An old fashioned slumber party!!!!

Thank you for the tip on the free books. I have gotten both of your recommendations.

Ok, I just have to ask. Why are you cutting the backing 8 1/2 inches wide?Do they fit together better for a quilt backing when they are 8 1/2 inche? I thought that you would cut them larger. Does it make them look better @ 8 1/2 inches?

OOOOOOoooooo. We could have a pajama party! LOL. Just sayin... I'm still in my jammies too.

Hi Bonnie, Thank you again for Easy Street. Never thought as a NEW Quilter I could do this, but your directions were great. Question - I have the two borders and backing on, but I only know how to SID - so what would be a suggested way to Quilt this?

Thank you - Debbie in Arizona

Hi Bonnie. This is Barbara in Michigan. I am a new quilter, but this is my 4th Quilt-Cam! I completed my first quilt last weekend, a small one that I did for Quilts for Kids. I had the kit forever, because I was afraid to start it. Sometimes for a newbie quilter, it seems like there are sooooo many things that you need to know! It was very intimidating, but after I found your blog I got the courage to start the QFK kit. I like how you just jump in and go for things.

Tonight I am working on your scrappy Irish chain from your Leaders and Enders book. Since I don't actually have any scraps yet, I had to buy FQs and I bought some scraps online! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
