So you wanted pics of us and quilt cam. Well patty cake knocked over the iPad. You moved and she was trying to get you. LolCUTE! It does look like Patty Cake is batting at my face…I can just imagine it from her kitty cat point of view….funny!

I’ve been working all day on this backing…..
And vacillating on whether this is the best use of my time, or just the best use of my fabric that I want to use up.
I think it’s a bit of both.
I mean, I could easy seam two lengths of yardage together with one seam and have a backing in about 15 minutes --- or I could buy wide backing and not have to seam it, and the quilt would be well under way to being quilted now.
But instead I spent the entire day ironing, cutting, stitching columns and joining columns together to get this random mess:
But you know what? I really like it! I think it will do just fine. It was a fun no-stress day. I cleared out a ton of shirt parts, and it’s going to be a very fun back. No one else will ever make a back exactly like this one….And the quilt will be interesting to look at front and back!
Tonight I’m planning on putting the wing triangles on either side of the string geese ----
And I’ll start joining them into pairs, into fours, into eights etc ---to get this quilt center together.

Hi Bonnie! It's snowing here in Hampton, Virginia and now that I've finished my Easy Street flimsy, I'm in my PJs working on a modern solids quilt top I had put aside for Easy Street. Dinner tonight was your Rainy Day Crock Pot Stew! It was great on a snowy day too, and a hit with my DH who is hard to please. Thanks for posting that recipe!

While I'm watching/listening to you, I'm finishing up some "blocks of the month." Glad i don't have to go out on the icy roads... My driveway is like a skating rink... Staying inside until it (hopefully) melts off!

Allison in Australia -love the quilt back. I've been making patchwork panels the width or the length (or both) of my backs and then add large sections of fabric to complete the back. Less work but still looks good. I'm unpicking some easy street blocks that need the four patch blocks the wrong way :(
It's 12.20pm I've just finished lunch. It's raining here today. Last week we had bushfires and over 100 degrees temperatures. today we have flooding here in South-East Queensland.

I got up from my sewing to come watch a little quiltcam. I'm trying to get all my blocks from the Bricks in a Barnyard Texas class finished tonight. The little quilt club I belong to meets tomorrow and I want to take them and a flannel backed tablecloth. I'll get all my friends to help me lay them out on it! Sewing the matchsticks for the border as my leader/enders. Back to the machine in the other room. Might be a good night to borrow my daughter's ipad! No can't do that - she's put the cats' games on it for them!

Your quilt back is fabulous! I finished the Mystery you taught in Dallas New Year's Day. It turned out great and I truly enjoyed making it. Next is put together Blue Ridge Beauty it will be put together in 4 sections so I can make sure od the block placement. You should have a birthday Month, one of my friends with a January birthday always has a full month of birthday ! Lol
Watching quiltcam and crocheting my daughter a scarf. Took a couple days break from quilting to get it done because it is just sooo cold here!
Watched your shirt de-boning video today. It was great! I just brought home 5 shirts from Goodwill and can hardly wait to take them apart!

I've had a BAD day! and now I've missed quilt cam. Today is my BD, and I have spent most of it at the Hospital w BIL. He fell and broke his hip and his wrist! not a good day for him either.

Finished quilting my Easy Street last weekend. Need to trim it up and put the binding on - I opted for no borders. My step-daughter (who lives with me), loves it so much that she said she would pay me 10 million dollars for it! Hey Bonnie, Colleen here iced in in Lewisville. Barely made it home from Union Cross Elem. where I work. I'm still sewing on my scrappy trip. I have a question about Easy st, I'm trying to use up my stash and am thinking of using a light gray solid for the gray, I was wondering what you think about using a solid instead of a print.
Just got in from work and popped right on-so glad you are still here! Love the quilt backing-may have to get rid of some HST's and other misc fabrics for one of the quilt tops laying around!
Hi Bonnie, I love your backing that you created today. I make lots of QOVs and backings get really expensive so I have started using my larger left-over pieces of fabric instead of buying new fabric. They are wonderful backings and are always different and great for charity quilts.

Bonnie, I love your shirt piece block backing. It is so original. I should be working on Easy Street, but I can't hear over my sewing machine too well and I don't want to miss something important that you tell us. So I'm just sitting here watching and listening to you. Love your useful tips.
Hi Bonnie! Now that the "bulky seam" door is open.... how tough is it to quilt the quilt when you have so many seams as in the strip piecing?

Just unpacked a 301A which I won on eBay. It needs some oiling and greasing, and some work on the tension. Also need to change the bobbin tire. There seems to be s soft scraping sound around the hand wheel. Have you ever taken the hand wheel off? I'm hoping the sound disappears after the machine has been oiled, but if it's still there, do I remove the hand wheel to see what I can see? What do you use to clean off the years of grime on the painted surfaces?

Hi Bonnie, love the backing, especially the inserted strip of HSTs. Been watching you the last 2 Quiltcam sessions from the recliner, recovering from a car accident. Thankfully no broken bones, the seat belt injury was the worst injury. After 12 days, I think I've turned the corner, as coughing and sneezing is merely painful, no longer excruciating! BTW, 6 rows of 24 = 144. Thanks!
Use a real pipe cleaner and sewing machine oil down around wheel. I did and got lots of gunk out of my 301.
That's about the coolest quilt back I've ever seen. An excellent use of you time.
I absolutely LOVE your quilt backing out of the shirts - definitely NOT a waste of time. It's brilliant! I have enjoyed piecing my backs lately although I used half-metre pieces so they didn't take too long to do. Can't believe I forgot about Quiltcam today!
I just love that quilt back out of old shirts. It is so in keeping with the front of the quilt, too.
Love the quilt back. I think it is pretty enough to be a front. A great way to reduce the recycle population.
I often piece backs from the scraps leftover from the front of the quilt. Yours looks great! It does take more time to piece the back, but I think the end result is worth it. What we do is as much about the process as the end result. I particularly enjoy the half square triangle strip you threw in - a leftover from something else, no doubt. It adds just the right amount of spark. Thanks for sharing! Lois
Miss Quiltcam last night but read the comments whenever that happens. LOVE the pieced quilt back ... really will make an interesting front/back. Might even have to give that a try myself. Still snowing in Northern Michigan so it's an "at home in the sewing room" day ... YIPPEE!! Linda
