How do I know when it is time to step away from the machine?
When this has happened more than once in the last 10 minutes!
Anyone else get a clue that I am having issues with my tension, maybe!?
Let's just say that tension does not only apply to the machine – I'm feeling quite a few tension issues myself!
It's a beautiful sunny day outside – I think it's time to get out of the basement and go take a walk :-)

Rethread time---or re-tred time! Enjoy your walk!
For sure! Take a break, that thread isn't going anywhere, and when you have rejuvinated your soul you will be feel better prepared to handle it!
ARGH! after your walk, sew sew again!
Definitely time for some soul rejuvenating activity! Rethread the machine after your walk. Enjoy!!
If that is the bottom of the seam, then it is the top thread. Make sure the thread is between the disks on the tension. A walk in the brisk fall air sounds great. Then come back and re-thread and start again. Check the bobbin thread also.
when that happens to me it is always time to step away - go take a walk, something, then come back and re-thread, replace needle maybe?
perhaps is all that "old" thread you are trying to use up? It sure looks as if the thread has slipped through the tension discs too fast or even slipped out.
I used my blade sharpener today. WHOOHOOOT! Sharp blade. And I like the smell of the sharpening oil.

Darn, I hate it when that happens... I do hope your walk in the greatoutdoors helped with both of your tension issues... Maybe try one of the other machines... LOL that one may be tired...today. Hope it gets better for you .
Hang in there Bonnie. I hope your walk gives you some peace and a new determination to figure out what is wrong. I am taking a break too. I have been cutting fabric for way toooo long today. Whew!
There is not a one of us who doesn't know your feeling! OUtside of beating on them achine and screaming your lungs out .... fresh air, sunshine and CHOCOLATE help me.
My tension is toppped off today too lolol. John has popped in an dout of the sewing room, hauled in repairman (a friend) replacing the ac/heater thing...and I am trying to sew up some Christmas gifts at the same time. Just turned off the machine and said....bye b ye for right now to it. Sitting down to cruise my favorite sites ... and poor Bonnie is in the same mess!!!!
"I hearya Bonnie!"
Wanna run away to an island and bask in the sun....lol?

Oh yeah ... absolutely!!
did you just wind a bobbin? Dollars to doughnuts, your top thread is threaded wrong; missing one of the thread guides or something simple like that.
I'm sorry that you were having issues but thank you for sharing. It makes us beginners feel less goofy! I always think that I've messed something up but I guess sometimes the machine messes up.
Sometimes there are just gremlins! I too, find that a walk does a world of good and if you can share it with a four-legged friend it's just that much better.
Just came in from buying a second piece of fabric to make my husband a robe for Christmas - the first one is just too heavy and way too short - I think I got robbed in the fabric cutting department - I knew it would be short because I had to shorten the pattern that I had made longer the last time. New fabric to make a second one and a walk with the dog are on my agenda this afternoon. My little 13 year-old Lhasa doesn't walk very fast/far so it won't be long but the air is brisk and we will both be better aftewards.
awwwww. sending you big huggs, and some pixie dust for a good nap with a warm kitty by your side.
Hope you enjoyed the fresh air. When I have snarled thread I start with the basics- Rethread top thread and reset the bobbin. If that doesn't work- Try a freshly wound bobbin in case there's a winding problem or nicked bobbin. Next- fresh needle and fresh top thread. If that doesn't work- a glass of wine or mug of hot cocoa is in order! I'm waiting to see how you set the Moth in the Window blocks. Thank you for all your generosity, and Merry Christmas.
Someone once told me that if the problem is on the underside then it is the top thread, and conversely, if it is on the top, then it is the bobbin. But, it could also be the thread or the needle too. I would start over agin, and retread top and bottom, and see how it does.
Been there, done that!
been there done that MANY times. Usually later in the evening when I'm pushing to get something done. That's about the time I want to blow up my machine! Sue K
Bonnie, your rain is now here in Las Vegas, NV! I've completed the center of my quilt top during QuiltCam--just needs the borders. It's a Rocky Mtn. Quilt Museum repro from Judie Rothermel. Hope you get your machine issues settled. At least you have many other machines to work with!

I hate that..yuck !
Every time that has happened to me, it was the bobbin, and not the way it was wound, just the bobbin itself. I throw them in the trash and move on to another bobbin. I guess those crappy gremlins are at your house right now, as they were at someones house earlier this week, driving her nuts.
yup. when I have to rip the same thing twice, I step away! time to take a break!
I sometimes find there's gunk built up in between the tension disks on my old Singer keeping the disks from working properly. I take a scrap piece of fabric at least 4" long, fold it in half, douse it in rubbing alcohol and "floss" between the tension disks with it, while the tension is set at "0". I go back & forth a few times, then floss underneath where I can't really quite see. It dries really fast, as it's just alcohol. After that I usually find the disks will behave and tighten around the thread as they're supposed to. Hope whatever is causing you trouble will be an easy fix!!
Bonnie, you have SO many machines! Just, try another sewing machine!
