Today I’m eager to keep going on the Geese on a String quilt that I posted this morning ----check for that post HERE.
Yes, I’ve now moved on to really crumby geese! The only problem is – my scraps are smaller and narrower than the big hunks and chunks that were used in the original quilt, so it is taking me a bit more piecing to build them up to size ----
But this is fun and easy!
Just put pieces right sides together and stitch, and press and add another piece and stitch and flip and press and sew and flip and press – just remember to trim the extra bulk to keep your seam allowances nice and neat!
I loved how the original quilt had pieces going every-which-direction and that adds a lot of motion to the quilt, so I’m going to throw in a bunch of theses too, and a bunch with angled strings instead of just all straight up and down strings.
And before I go any further – I want to show you this:

This is my new ironing board cover --- Now how many of you, crazy like me – would promptly turn the iron ON – to iron the wrinkles OUT of the ironing board cover?!? Yes. I did. I admit it!

Happy Sunday! I just got back from an early morning showing of The Hobbit. Your giant flying geese pattern looks so cute, it might just have Togo on my list. This afternoon is for sorting and cutting though to turn some scraps into useable pieces for future project. It feels so good to see the basket empty and ready to be filled again.
Fabulous Sunday afternoon...you and the Packers at the same time! I finished up step 4 of the mystery yesterday and will continue on with the pinwheels of Tobacco Road. Thanks for the flying geese directions, yesterday I bought a fat quarter of that peachy color because I couldn't get it off my mind. Maybe I will just make a few geese? LOL!

Hi Bonnie - This is Paula in Omaha. I am finishing up a string pieced quilt that I used 6" squares of cotton batting as my foundation. It worked great. I put the squares together with 1" sashing strips and quilted it on my mid arm frame. It is flat and getting binding attached. I spiderweb is on the design wall as I am peeling paper off the back. Thank goodness for phone books.

Hi Bonnie, I'm so glad I've finally managed to catch your quilt cam! I'm working on my old 50's era sewing machine, big heavy monster. My husband has offered to buy me a new one, but I'm worried that some new, plastic, electronic machine will not last as long as my old, faithful, sews through anything machine. I told him Bonnie would understand :)
I love the geese! I have a pile of crumb pieces sewn together. They are just shapeless blobs of pieces now, but I think I'll make them into this flying geese quilt! Thank you for sharing the quilt with us.

Hey Bonnie... Laurie in Ottawa here. I ALMOST snagged a Singer Rocketeer yesterday! Operative word.. almost :( I saw it listed on our local kijiji yesterday, it was just posted friday.. for $40!!
Unfortunately, the lady emailed me back this morning and told me someone bought it and picked it up this morning... it was such good shape too.
Anyways.. just finished making 5 gallons of laundry soap and almost a gallon of fabric softener... now I can sew. And yes, it actually started snowing today.. this batch might even stay til Christmas... maybe... LOL

Bonnie, it seems that sewing with you will have to wait yet another day. Just finished "spring cleaning" our SUV for a holiday tip at the end of the week. My arms and shoulders are too tired to sit at the machine and sew. When I get my second wind, there is a bag that I'm trying to finish - that I started last Nov! - and I'd like to get a few of clue #4's geese put together. First, I will rest and watch Mickey's Christmas Carol with my 6 yr old son. Have a great afternoon!

Found a Kenmore Stylist 86 for 30.00 today. It's in pristine condition and is sewing perfectly. Going to call het Dolly because when I got in the car Dolly Parton. was singing a duet with Rod Stewart on the radio.
Sorting 6 super sized tubs of fabric a kind lady donated to me to use at work in my quilting classes for at risk youth. We are going to have some fun!
Hubby is trying to find all the parts to put the train under the Christmas tree. Hopefully, he will be able to get that done without my help. I'm trying to finish a quilt for my brother-in-law for Christmas. Love spending time sewing along with you on Quilt cam.

Bonnie, you inspired me with your post on Dottie on Friday, I checked Craig's List on Friday night and found a 1939 Featherweight with all the accessories and the wooden card table with the machine cutout specifically made for the featherweight. It was listed for $125.00, it now lives at my house. Yea! Thank you for Quilt Cam and your blog.

Hey, Bonnie: I took a cleaning/maintenance class about Featherweights this summer and the fellow,Dave, taught us that you don't use your toe on the pedal. You actually use the ball of your foot wih a rocking motion from side-to-side! It works really well and saves the foot cramps.
He has a great website, www.featherwight221.com, with great resource material and supplies (no affiliation, I think he is just terrific and taught me so much). The class was cheaper than sending my machine out to be serviced.

I found a scrap of cotton fabric from a long dress (aka maxi dress)I made in 1973! I keep the scrap with a photo of me wearing that dress. It makes me smile to look at them together.
Of course you would iron the ironing board cover if it wrinkled. How can you press something nice and flat if it's resting on a wrinkled surface? Truth - I wouldn't want to look at the wrinkles; that was a very good rationale for my compulsion wasn't it? LOL

G'day from 'Downunder'! Just woke up and turned on for my first ever quilt cam. It's awesome!!
I finished Easy Street Part 4 yesterday, and have only 25 green squares left to cut.
First time I've been able to sew along with Q cam. Such fun! It's like having a friend down here with me( basement ). Don't worry about a few cookies on Monday. Tuesday will totally clean you out! Good luck, I hope your reports are clear. Micki - Shelby,NC
OH!!! do love this idea! Bonnie, I belong to a small group of quilters who make giveaway quilts for children (and teens) who are part of the Family Promise program (you can read about the program online, if you like. The Geese on a String is PERFECT for some small children's quilts .... lively, fun and uses ALOT of scraps. But, thinking of calling mine ChunkyMonkey... for the kids :) Thanks for such a great idea. Sure will make one for John and I also ... now where is my list of gonna-make-this-ones...ummmmmm? ;)
