I’ve been blessed to have many talented quilters cross my path ---and my life has been enhanced and enriched by all I have learned from them. I am re-charged by their energy, I am re-fueled by their sense of humor, or their wisdom and understanding. Some I have taught with on various occassions, but no one has crossed my path in more ways than my friend Mickey Depre!
If you’ve been lucky enough to take any of her workshops or hear her lecture, or own one of her other books, you know exactly what I mean!
We met at the Gulf States Quilting Association a couple years ago. A month later we found ourselves meeting up again and teaching for the Virginia Consortium of Quilters. From there we found we were next-door-roomies at the Road to California quilt show in 2011!
I was lucky enough to have her drop in on me this past spring when I came to Illinois – and I got to meet her other hilarious half, her hubby Paul!
And now I get to be honored to give you the heads up on Mickey’s fabulous new book!
You know how *I* Love hexies --- well Mickey’s spin on it leaves me in the dust in so many ways. As her Pieced Hexies facebook page header states: A blank hexie is just a wannabe pieced hexie!
She has taken English paper piecing and set it on it’s ear!
It’s modern,
It’s fresh,
It’s fun,
It’s addictive,
It’s fabulous!
The possibilities are endless!
In Pieced Hexies you will discover the 7 basics.
And from there discover ways to change those and watch them evolve into completely new designs.
Once the possibilities emerge, the ideas do not stop coming!
And in Mickey’s own words….
“A Hexie Quilt does not have to be entirely made of Hexies!
Use your Pieced Hexie motifs as Applique!”
I had a little fun making hexie collages of my favorite of Mickeys designs:
Whooowhooooo!
Don’t you love these?!
The techniques are unbelievably easy ---with fantastic results!
Pieced Hexies is due out any day now and Mickey is taking pre-orders on her website.
To celebrate Mickey’s release of Pieced Hexies with Kansas City Star, we are having a GIVE-AWAY!!
Drop me a comment below and I will draw a winner upon my return from South Carolina – I’m driving back home on Sunday and should be home in the evening ---if I’m too dead tired, maybe we’ll make it Monday Morning! LOL!
If your email address is not linked to your blogger account, or if you are signing in as ANONYMOUS you must leave your name and email address so we can contact you. If there is no email address on the person we draw, we will draw someone else!
I’ll be choosing one winner to win an autographed copy of Pieced Hexies direct from Mickey Depre!
I can’t wait to see the quilts you are going to make after seeing this book!
Good luck, Everyone!

I am currently working on a hexie project but these new ideas are over the top. What fun!
Your hexie quilt is stunning. Perhaps I ought to explore the world of hexies further. Wouldn't hurt to learn from someone who obviously knows what she's doing and who has some design sense.

I'm new to hexies but from the beautiful samples that I've seen on Mickey's posts I want to start hexieing in earnest as soon as I get a book - Her way of "thinking outside of the box" is just amazing - and it doesn't look like she will stop there! - Kind of like you Bonnie - such wonderful ways to deal with scraps of fabrics - love it! if I win a copy all the better! thanks for the opportunity

You know, I have been trying to resist the hexie thing. I love the look of it but it seems like something I would never finish. However, these pictures make me think I want to start it anyway. If nothing else, it would be such a happy book to look at! So, here goes: if I'm among the lucky three, it was meant to be. Otherwise, I think I'm going to have to make an investment in my quilting library! Thanks, Bonnie, for telling us about this. And thanks, Mickey, for the beauuuuutiful pictures!

Looks like a great book..I'd love to win a copy!
I'd love a change to win the Hexie book!
I worked on hexies that were 5/8s, I think. It's been awhile. I used them as flower appliques on a wall quilt I was working on. I was just looking at the paper pieces the other day, thinking I might make some more with my little scraps that I tend to toss. I would like to work on a larger size, just got to buckle down and cut out the card stock patterns. I get frustrated when I find they are getting out of shape as I cut each one. I need to get organized so I will always have a take-along project.
I'm making my first hexagon quilt in a Grandmother's flower garden design using my Nana's bedding. I'm really enjoying it, and would love this book to give me ideas for my next hexagon quilt.
Many thanks,
Kate.

Jana ronjana@yahoo.com
I'm working on 2 hexie quilts because of your inspiration. I have 2 granddaughters that are excitedly waiting for me to finish. It has been a great travel project.
Oh my goodness. How I've missed the Quiltville blog this summer. Not possible where I spend that time of the year. I'm mostly back and will be checking in almost every day.
I started to tackle hand quilting a very old (over 100 years) quilt top that was passed down to me along with 4 other old quilt tops. However, what I thought I needed to quilt on it just didn't look right. It was my summer quilting, as I have no power at my camp.
So that book would likely be exactly what I need. It looks wonderful.
Seems nice to be back with you Bonnie.

I'm glad to know I was an innovator by accident! I've run out of solids for my EPP project on occasion & used leftover pieced squares for it. Using up the scraps was my main concern before.
I love the idea of using PLANNED pieced hexies, instead of just scraps like I have in the past.
