I love The Breakers! We have visited several times over the years. I keep telling my husband that he needs to see it! Isn't it a wonderful view from the "backyard"?

Patti Hurst Bought the house next door to us here in Donegal Ireland as a holiday house I imagine that her house in America must look much like this. Pitty I did'nt know she was looking for a rish Holiday home or I could have sold her mine. (Which overlooks her holiday home.

Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures across the U.S. The Breakers is just a small cottage compared to Biltmore but I guess if you're only going to visit it for one or two months out of the year it doesn't have to be that big. lol
If you get a chance be sure and see Marble House.

Oh, thank you for giving us a peek of the mansions. I remember touring them when we went to Newport to watch the America's Cup race. I was in awe of those beautiful homes. I'm so glad the preservation society oversees them for others to visit. They are works of art. AND Newport is such a beautiful little city. Safe travels.

Just curious if you were able to see any memorial services for the Titantic disaster in Newport this weekend? I had heard that there were.

Ostentatious is right!! And ugly. You would think such rich people could have built something prettier.

You could set up quite the sewing studio in those big mansions! My family toured three of the mansions when we were there on holidays.

We visited one of those, I think the Breakers. It's impressive but wouldn't be very comfortable to live in. I would always feel under-dressed!

I have to tell you that the architecture of the Newport Mansions and the history relating to them is wonderful. This was a time when the wealthy built beautiful homes, yes these homes were over the top, but these homes were so in keeping with the times of the people and area. I think these homes are a wonderful historical look at an amazing time in American history. I am so thankful for the restoration of these homes. The view from the back side of "The Breakers" is truly wonderful. I love these treasures and am so thankful for their restoration and the fact they are open for us to view. It was a different time. This was the norm for the day.

Wonderful period architecture! Look at all the natural lighting, though I doubt there was much quilting going on in that home. Thanks for the tour, Bonnie. This is one of the things we all appreciate about your blog, you never hesitate to entertain us with your adventures and we so appreciate your thoughtfulness.

It's so pretty but not...warm. Like driving up to it would not make me think "oh, good, I'm safe home now". Guess I just love my little bungalow!

I do think that if I had lived in a home like that it would have been "under the stairs". I am sure I would have been cleaning the silver, not using it dinner. LOL Thanks for sharing your travels with us.

I love the Biltmore in Asheville. Have you been there at Christmas? I thought the Breakers was in Palm Beach. Huh.
