Lasts Days of May -

It's Monday. It's the beginning of a new week. And a new month.  June is here.

How does that happen?

I almost feel sad about June....later in the month that summer solstice happens and we start decreasing our daylight time and in my mind I'm hearing "And here we go again...the slow descent into the depths of winter."

But for now....I'm going to enjoy every bit of every summer day we have ahead of us and make them count.

And that's what we did!

Even Mabel and Zoey put their paws to gravel on yesterday's dirt road hike.  We are prepping them for today - headed up to Grayson Highlands in search of ponies.  I think they are ready!

We can't sew all day and into the night unless we get up and move our bodies!

I am always awed by the flora and how it changes week to week.  This is newly blooming...look how feathery!

Anyone know what this is?

Meanwhile, back at the inn, the retreaters have been busy!

Indigo Way is now awaiting borders!

Bear Branch is also growing:

Oh I love it!

Summer Strawberries getting borders!

Gorgeous cranberry reds:

Abbeygate in the making!

The two Tula samplers are done - one for each little girl

They are going to love them!

Bindings have also been underway -

With weather this fine - take it to the porch!

Only one more side to go on Lupine & Laughter!

It's never too early for Punkin Patch from String Frenzy

I love the added purples. So cute!

I spent most of my weekend at my desk working on the PDF pattern for String Rings. Look forward to that releasing on June 17th if all goes right.

I want this done and ready and off my plate before I leave for Romania on Friday.

As you can tell, Hazel is doing her best to keep me focused.

On the home front - Tula has added new behaviors.  She is now jumping up on the couch to lie down by me. This is NEW!  And she will accept pets and scratches. She may never be a LAP cat, but this is acceptable!

Caught her mid yawn! LOL!

She loves to play with her little catnip mice - she will go at it for the longest time batting them around and chasing them.  It's so cute to watch.  And since she loves playing, I know she is settled and happy with us as an inside cat.

And later yesterday afternoon before heading home I was able to do some piecing on the flying geese border for Goose Feathers. I need around 50 of these little sections so it's not likely I'll finish them before I leave for Romania, but they will be here when I get back.  This batch is waiting to be trimmed and depapered.

And drum roll, please!

I have finished the last neutral hexie border.  YAY!

That means that I only have the large motifs to finish and those will be traveling with me as well as being worked on during evening time.  I want this quilt top finished by the end of the year.

Can I do it?

Will there be another hexie quilt in the making to replace it?

It truly is the easiest of evening TV time stitching.

The release date for Scrap-Savvy is in July!

You'll also be able to order from all of your favorite online retailers.  And please let your local quilt shops know to get it in stock.

If you’ve got bins of leftovers, strings, and old shirts you can’t bear to throw away, my new book Scrap Savvy Quilting is for you.

Inside, I’ll show you how to quilt green—turning reclaimed clothing and every last scrap into one‑of‑a‑kind quilts—using my Leaders & Enders method, Scrap User’s System, and favorite string and crumb techniques.

You’ll find more than two dozen of my best‑loved scrap quilts from my previous titles, from Texas Braid to Pineapple Crazy, plus step‑by‑step basics to help you make more quilts in less time, without buying more fabric. All in one volume!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Happy Monday, everyone! Welcome to a new week and a new month.

Let's see what kind of quilty trouble we can get into while we're not watching what we're doing!

Oh what fun you're having to end the month of May and start of June. Congrats on the hexie border finish! I have Indigo Way and Lupine and Laughter in totes. Waiting for their turn to finish. Will it be in June? Today is UFO Day with friends. Maybe I should take one down and put it together. Sew retreaters sew!

The white flowers are Aruncus dioicus. :-) Don't know the exact name in English, but something like Goat's Beard... It thrives well in shaded areas.
By the way, I'm a francophone Canadian living in Quebec province and I follow and enjoy your daily publications since many years. :-)

So good to see Tula! She looks happy. Does your new book include any new patterns? I have all of your previous books from years ago. Sue

I have learned to like (appreciate?) the gradual yearly changes; I think it keeps me in touch with the universe. Ellen Thompson

Goat's Beard is also known as buck's-beard or bride's feathers.

Hi Bonnie! If you took a picture of the feathery plants with your iphone, you can bring up the picture & click on the Leaf icon. It will tell you what kind of plant that is. It’s a feature we’ve had for a year or so & is very helpful with my pictures. Let us know if it works for you.

Good to see your dogs out walking. I was wondering about them. I got a new cat at the shelter about 6 weeks ago . She came with the name Zoey. She looks like your cat Lola. I have a featherweight named Lola too. Judy

A question - once you trim your flying geese, what happens to the trimmings? Are they finally too small to use?

Tula looks happy so I know she will continue being more & more affectionate. My 9 year old calico had a rough start in life. When I got her at 2 years, no one could pet her or pick her up EVER with out being clawed and bitten. Took a couple years of trust building then she would jump up to sit next to us. Another year to jump up on my lap to be pet and loved. (Still only my lap). Now she seeks me out at bedtime to curl up on the bed to spend the night. She has become much more sociable and I no longer have to warn people to avoid her.

Great stuff as always! Hopefully there will be ponies soon?
Glad to see Tula is doing well and Miss Hazel doing her thing. I think you'll have your Hexi done by the end of the year for sure! :-)
Happy sewing!

I am curious .... The lovely lady wearing the t-shirt that says .... Raising My Husband ??? She is stitching Lupine and Laughter. Please may we know what the rest of her shirt states? It has to be funny :D

There’s another photo of the shirt-wearer on the hike. It says “Raising my husband is exhausting”. Dot in NC
