All On A Friday -

The June Quiltvillians are quilting up a quilty storm!

June? But it's May? Technically yes, but we will be in June by the time they leave! Every year, the date shifts back by one day until we hit leap year. It's just the way it goes.  Plus this way they are here while I am here as next Friday I leave for Romania.

This way we get to be together!

The couple of folks missing from this photo are either:

a) On the porch sitting in a porch rocker making a phone call -
b) in the kitchen making dinner or somethin yummy
c) headed to town on a quilt shop/grocery run
d) taking na much needed afternoon nap after sewing until 2am the night before
e) in the dining room pinning in sashings on the big table.

This is the sashing monster in question -

And there are actually TWO Tula sampler quilts happening here.

I love these sherbet colors!

The sashing job in question in the dining room -

Sashings without cornerstones are really hard to line up, have you found that to be the case also?

One of the hints I use is to mark the sashing in the seam allowance on the wrong side of the long sashing piece just where it needs to line up with the shorter sashings between the blocks.

You can use a pencil (mechanical works well) if it is visible on the wrong side of the fabric, and in some instances I've made dots with the blue water wash-out pens.  In the seam allowance.  On the wrong side of the fabric.

Just anything to help line up the blocks in the row above to the blocks in the row below.

Disappearing Hourglass coming along!  Fun fabrics!

Rivanna was underway ALL DAY - thousands of half-square triangles!

I was back from therapy in time for the victory lap!

Tada!

And we all agreed that it made a great companion quilt to Xenia's Moonflower also finished yesterday:

Whoo-hoo!

And no, we did not intend the quilt to match the grocery bag trash can liner, but we embrace it anyway.  LOL!

Lupine & Laughter looking like stained glass as the sun shines through the bay window.  Lovely!

I have a feeling that this one will be done this morning when I head over....blocks were already being sewn into rows.

The steam punk quilt just needed two more borders to call it done - it was on the foyer floor when I was making my way to the front door to head home.

And now for the therapy update -

I'm sore.  I knew I would be.

Not only was I given a bunch of exercises to help open up my pecs which are rounding my shoulders forward because they are so tight, causing strain between my shoulder blades and giving me pain - we also did some neuromuscular release techniques to unlock everything so my shoulders can go back, can release the tension between my shoulders and improve my posture going forward.

Quilting is a "everything in front of us" activity.  It shortens your muscles in the front while putting strain across the back.

So, here is something you can do before and after a sitting quilting session to help prevent the pain I've been experiencing:

All it takes is a doorway and some relaxed breathing. Your body will thank you.

There are some other versions as well, and I know not everyone has the ability, or has limited ability so please check with your health provider to see if this will help you. (Yes, big disclaimer, don't come after me.)

No sewing happened yesterday. I spent morning time at my desk trying to get stuff ready for Romania. I left for town at 1:30.  After my appointment it was do all the tings - gas in the van, pick up pet food supplies for while I'm gone, drop by Dollar Tree for other needed items - and then a 30 minute drive back to the inn.

Last night...hexie border still happening, but I have a feeling I'll reach the length I need in the next night or two.  Good deal.  That leaves me with just a handful of large motifs to finish which will be my travel project for Romania.

Is it possible I'm thinking of a new hexie quilt for evening stitching?  Maybe.  Just maybe.
