Quilting Always, But Brunch First!

Look Ma, No Rain!

Our lovely late spring weather has returned to many cheers.  Dirt road hikes were planned, and meals are once again happening on the back porch.

This is the kind of weather that summer retreats are made of.

At the same time, we know we can't really appreciate the glory of fine weather unless we also have to live through some of the yuck. (Like the snowcrete that was plaguing us in January/February? I still feel triggered from that!)

I took a walk through the Quilting Quarters on my way back to the front door and stopped to take a look at the quilting evidence...Lap quilts are already coming together!

Rivanna is coming along nicely!

Disappearing Hourglass block - is this Missouri Star? I think so.

Warm reds and toasty tans -

Take it Easy by Primitive Gatherings.

It may not look like it - but there is a whole lotta block prepping happening here for Crackers & Jam!  Dive into those scraps, baby!

The proof is on the wall!

I'm sure much Crackers & Jam progress will be made now that Morning Glories is in the done column. Well done!

What is it about quilts with lots of little pieces that just make my heart go pitter-patter?

Darkness & Light by Kansas Troubles.

Based upon the traditional Barrister's Block. Lovely!

I suspect there will be a  Lupine & Laughter finish soon!

Hamilton Gardens being sewn on a lovely tan 1950s featherweight!

Five of us on a dirt road hike

It was a little warm as we had to wait for after brunch to go....but the shade and a gentle breeze greatly helped.

I hadn't been down here for a couple of weeks - too much rain last week and I was amazed to see how things had grown and changed in that amount of time.  The grass was so tall!

But best of all - the wild roses are in bloom giving off the most delicious scent.

I wish I could bottle it all up.

Back in the studio, getting down to business -

At least everything was sewn into rows before Hazel got frisky!

Yeah, girl - just stay out of my way!

The best part about offsetting the blocks? While I had to pin-match block to block in each column, when joining the columns there was nothing to match but the cross seams where block met block. HOORAY!

Big hint with big unwieldy tops:

Piece them into two halves, so your last seam is somewhere toward the center instead of along one end with the weight of the quilt pulling you down.

And it's always fun to play any kind of game you can while tackling a big project:

Last seam complete! Top Done!

And I also won at Thread Chicken! YAY!

The center still needs stay-stitching around the outside edge to minimize stretch and to keep seams from popping while I attach borders.

And yes, there will be borders....And we have a NAME!  I'm calling this one Goose Feathers. It needed a goosey name.  Goose Feathers it is.

But today I need to make my kits for my upcoming Craftours trip to Romania! I leave one week from today!

Have you thought of coming on future adventures with me?  We've got India coming up in September, and as always our fabulous Christmas Market tour happening right after Thanksgiving.  This year we'll be in Switzerland, Germany and France all in one tour.  Check out my line up HERE and get your reservation in.

Today:  More fun with the June Quiltvillians.  Dirt road hike? Maybe.  We'll see if I can get folks to want to step away from their quilting to come with me.

This afternoon I have a physical therapy session to address the pain between my shoulder blades.

I know what is causing it.  Everything I do from typing to sewing to rotary cutting to hand stitching on hexies is in front of me with head down. We'll not only be working on where the pain is - between the shoulder blades - but on the culprit of the whole situation - my pecs. They are drawing my shoulders in and causing pain in the back.

Quilting is a sedentary sport.  We have to do what we have to do to keep our bodies able to do what we want to keep on doing.

What's up for your Friday?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Things that bring on a giggle!

As much as I love plays on words, keeping your circle of friends positive and supportive and encouraging is important for a happy life.

No drama, no whining, no complaining, no judging, and don't use my fabric scissors!

Happy Friday, everyone -

Bonnie, when hand piecing, I was told by Nancy Chong, to sit in a recliner with your feet up. Or on a couch or bed with your legs out. You cannot hunch your shoulders when you are in this position. I can piece for hours without pain in this position.
