The Richmond Express gals are in the house and quilting up a storm!
And the projects are as varied as the conversations interrupted only by bursts of laughter.
You know, as I work my way into my older crone years, there is nowhere else I'd rather be with than a house full of like-minded quilters.
Everyone from different backgrounds and varying life experiences - we could write a book for the answers to all questions because SOMEONE in this house has been through what someone else is just embarking on. It's marvelous!
If you know the name of this pattern and the designer please drop it into the comments below because though I was told, I laughed it right out of my brain and I can't remember bupkiss this morning!
Geese on a String from String Frenzy in progress!
And the smiley cat!
Old Town is getting borders!
And when available design wall space is limited, we just start to layer one project on top of another!
Waterford is the project on top and I love seeing this coming together!
Happy string piecing in abundant reds!
A corner of many possibilities, some salvaged from a guild donation table. One person's cast offs becoming another person's inspiration!
Rough & Tumble for a grandson! Next up: Binding!
It's really fun to sew with recycled fabric and make something like this - great for dragging to ball games, to keep in the car, take on picnics - not all great quilts need to be expensive quilting cotton.
This quilt was made for making memories and being out and about.
I love how everyone puts their own touches and likes into every given project. I'm looking forward to watching this one grow. Beautiful colors and fabrics!
Still plugging away on the neutral hexie border - last night with Zoey by my side.
I do love this little routine we have.
Today - weather is GREATLY IMPROVED! We are looking at a high of 62 this afternoon.
There may be some porch sitting. And more visiting, and more laughing.
Sounds like a perfect Friday - what do you have planned for yours?

I know what this is!
It's Emerald City from String Frenzy!
My favorite thing about this quilt is the sashings - because who doesn't like a sashing that looks like ribbons going over-under-over-under like ribbon threaded through eyelet?
I'm sure this one will be assembled during retreat - and another quilter has got this one under way with the addition of a bit of turquoise included:

As for my day? I lost a big chunk of time due to taking the van to town to get it inspected, and then stopping by the grocery store to pick up needed items while I was there.
By the time I got back, and after visiting with the ladies a bit, I settled back into my LEAST favorite part of quilting - matching points and pinning.
But it has to happen!
And as I am pin-matching, and pressing, I come upon many little pieces with more memories.
This plaid shirt? It belonged to my Grandpa Mach. After his funeral I came home with several of his cotton button-down shirts in my suitcase. I've used most of them up and there are only little pieces and strings left.
This triangle was a trimming from a stitch-n-flip corner. Perfect for this paper pieced project.
This larger triangle?
I'm thinking Fabricland in Ontario Oregon, Late 1980s. Jeff was born in January 1990 and while I was pregnant with him I was teaching a log cabin quilting class at Fabricland (Which of course is no longer there and has ben gone forever) before Fat Quarters were even a thing.
Later on while I was making bears and bunnies and lots of other dolls and selling them at boutiques I used this fabric for bunny dresses. I loved making the clothes for the dolls. Printy flouncy dresses with striped bloomers underneath. Lace and ribbons and buttons....
I think I've used up the last of this one now. too.
I'm up to here.
It's getting there, but my disdain for pin-matching is still growing by the block! LOL!
I know I'm not going to enjoy pinning the lengths of the rows to sew the rows together.
"Would you stop complaining and just do it? You know it's worth it!"
Yes, ma'am.
And if you haven't yet, please pop over to the Gift-Away post and get your entry in!
I'll be drawing for 2 winners who will each receive a Brookgreen PDF pattern from me and:
A Caramel roll from Cotton to Quilts!
Introductory Pricing: The PDF pattern for Brookgreen is currently 25% off in the Quiltville Store, no coupon needed! Price good through 3/31/26.
Simple shapes and easy piecing create a stunning repeat of pattern and secondary designs, inspired by photo taken of vintage tile floors white traveling.
Full color photos, Optional piecing methods, and directions to press for success!
I can't wait to see what you do with your own version, be it in these colors, or perhaps a color theme of your own choosing!
Brookgreen finishes at 80'' X 80'' but is easily customized by making fewer blocks for a smaller quilt, or more blocks for a bigger one.
Add to the length by simply adding more rows.
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Maybe it's a good idea to check behind the presser foot every once in awhile to make sure there is still thread holding things together!
Happy Friday, everyone!

Good morning, I have that sewing notions pattern, it is called My Favorite Things Quilt Pattern From Amanda Murphy Design. One of these days I am going to make it up!!
Happy Friday! Today I'm not doing a thing quilty until I get home from the movies! Haven't been to a movie theater in 25 years, oh my! Last movie I saw in a theater was Pearl Harbor with Ben Affleck the day it opened in May 2001. Today I'm going to see Project Hail Mary and I'm so excited. Opted for the DBox experience (where the chair moves in sync with the movie). Why not go whole hog when it's been 25 years? Anyway, I'm so excited to see this movie and on opening day! I loved the Martian (the book was written by Andy Weir who also wrote Project Hail Mary). I listened to PHM back when it first came out in Audiobook, and when I saw the commercials for the movie, listened to it again. I highly recommend the book, and hope the movie lives up to the written word. On SNL a few weeks ago, Ryan Gossling said it's like ET meets Interstellar. That is a great and pretty accurate description!
Bonnie's 1980s floral print from FabricLand was designed by Joan Kessler for Concord Fabrics. It was very popular and came in several colorways. A peach and brown combo was one of the first color schemes and VERY popular. I've heard it called the "Million Yard Print" because so much of it made.
You can find photos and some of the fabric for sale online.
That triangle fabric. I bought a lot of that and made a complete baby set for my first granddaughter. Bumper pads, pillow, diper stacker, (There was more in the set in the patttern.) I entered it into a contest and actually won first. It was $50 and back in the 80's that was good money. It paid for the fabric. I bought the fabric at Winn's five and dime store. I do still love that fabric.
My sister made my daughter a dress with that floral in the 90's. I have some of the scraps.
Looks everyone is having a great time sewing together, I spy red traffic cones in the middle of the floor.....is that for slowing quilters down from crashing into each other? Can't wait to see their over the railing quilt show :0) Happy Spring EQUINOX day!
I made a doll dress from it in 1995 - I think I may have a scrap or two left. ;)
As usual - Wisdom in the Quilt Quote !
I love seeing your photos of Hazel! She is so beautiful and she looks very much like one of my favorite cats in the past named Tim. He was bottle fed by one of my close friends because his mother rejected him. Needless to say he was such a love! We had him for 15 years.
There is a plugin that sticks up under that cone. It helps prevent someone from tripping over it while they're mind is on the next quilting step and not where they are going.
Great stuff coming from the retreat group, as usual! Today is my last day of Spring Break ( sniff, sniff) so I treated myself to a bit of eye candy at my local fabric shop. She has everything crammed into an old country house. I love it, but you have to know exactly what your going in for!!
I feel you on the disdain for the pin-matching... I hate it as well! Laughed at Hazel's expression. Hopefully the warm weather continues for you. We will be in the low 90's for South Central Texas. Spring time at it's best! HA! Happy quilting! :-)
I know several of the ladies there this week! They are such fun! Used to live in Richmond but moved back to Texas because of my aging parents. Hug them all for me! Love them much!
We are in SD and it was 82 here today. We had snow Sat and Sunday and then again Tues. what a roller coaster this year has been. You have had far more snow though than we have.
If I had a nickel for every inch I've sewn after the bobbin thread ran out..... LOL Just recently learned the phrase "bobbin chicken" which I'm also guilty of. Don't want to waste thread! Kathy M.
That larger triangle - I had that fabric! (might still have some in my Scrap Users System). I made a maternity dress from it that I wore through all 3 of my pregnancies (my kids were born in 1987, 1989, and 1991).
What a coincidence! I worked at Fabricland just as it was bought out. And I had that print in my stash too! It's so challenging to find good wool, silk, etc. since they were bought out. I still have some striped silk in my stash.
I love your "Pinwheel Party" you are currently making. Great scrappiness. Yes, pinning is annoyingly droll, but produces such lovely results, we keep doing it, and as Hazel commands with those eyes, those beautiful eyes!
I really do enjoy reading your blog and look forward to having your company for a little while every day. Your foundation pieced triangle project is coming along at a fast pace (Well, it probably doesn't seem like it to you.) and is quite lovely. Isn't it fun to revisit all those memories as we cuddle with our quilts? You continually amaze me with the creativity of each new project and how they are so different from one another.
I have been searching on Facebook for the Open Group you mentioned, but I have been unable to find it. Would you kindly post the link when you get a moment? Thank you so much for being there for us and sharing all you do!
