It's Still Here!

The snow and the ice is still here.

More snow on top of the ice.

I had so many asking me "What about Flash???" that I thought I better take some photos as proof of life.

We are still parking at the bottom of our drive-hill, and using either the RZR with chains on, or the 4WD pickup with chains on to shuttle us to the bottom where the Subaru is parked because that's the only way of navigating our drive.

Hubster Dave re-shoveling the walk on Saturday after the night's snow fall.

Flash, always waiting for us to arrive and provide him dinner.

Here's the thing for all of the "What about Flash?!?!" people.

I love animals. There is no doubt.  I feel for them. I want them fed and happy.

But Flash is SUPER FERAL, even when eating.

If you make a move, he skedaddles. There is likely ZERO chance of taming this one, so I am doing what I can.

He has food.  He has a warm headed and insulated cat house should he wish to use it.

But I am not going to feel bad for him over "What is he going to do without Tula now?"

I can feed.  I can keep a heated water dish. I can provide shelter.  But he is FERAL.  End of story.

If he moved on to another life somewhere else, I'd honestly wish him well.

This one is settling in, however!

We've been giving her out-of-the-bathroom breaks when we can shut Ivy in the bedroom, and Lola in the basement and let Tula out to roam a bit and get some exercise.

I wish they could just all GET ALONG, but I'm not risking introducing either of the other cats to her at this point as she is still healing.

Tula doesn't even care about the dogs as long as they don't get to close.  So who knows.

But look who is in my lap!  This happened last night and I held my breath the whole time, trying not to startle her.

I'm not sure she will ever be a willing lap cat, but as long as the pets and scratches continued, this was progress.

So how did I spend my mostly-snowed-in weekend?

String piecing!

At this point I'm just covering phone book pages.

And cutting them into strips.

I have a plan!

I saved the de-papering for evening time while watching TV.

Okay.  This will be fun.

I'll be back to working on more of these today. And likely have to be pulling strips out from under Lola as she thinks I put this bin here just for her.

Can't wait for this to get here!

Just one of the items from the Quiltville Zazzle Store  that Forest Jane has added with our Lupine & Laughter Logos!

I like a big mug and this one is 15 oz. It's gorgeous!  She does such a great job and the proceeds help her purchase the supplies she needs for the sewing classes she is teaching at her local library to those in need.

You can view the smaller mug HERE.

And you can always add our logo to t shirts, bags, hats, keychains, anything!

One thing that went out of mind while dealing with Tula's eye and her surgery was to share more information on what the proceeds from  Quiltville Zazzle Store purchases fund.

Forest Jane teachers free sewing classes at her local library and the proceeds from Zazzle sales allow her to purchase the supplies (especially the hardware) her students need to complete their projects.

She writes;

I'm teaching more and more of these, even getting invited to other libraries to do one there.  I also still teach crocheting classes, so my schedule is full!

My classes got so popular that I'm now teaching one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  I figured as long as I have the sewing machines out, I'd rather do two classes of 15 than one large class of 20 or 30.

What a great way to share our love of sewing with others!

Look at these siles!

We all know that sense of accomplishment when we make something that we didn't think we could.

This is a smile of confidence!

Planting the seeds of sewing love!

Cute fabric wallet!

So many skills learned in one little item.

Well done!

Great job, ladies!

What's your next project going to be?

I love that even the littles are getting into the act and learning how to sew.

If you'd like to support this project, please head over to the Quiltville Zazzle Store knowing that your purchase of a mug, a magnet, or other item is helping Forest Jane keep her classes going.

The classes for students are free.  Your purchase helps fund the notions and items that students need to compete their project at no cost to them.

We are one by one building a community of sewists and makers!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

Don't throw in the towel!⁣

If the project seems overwhelming, see if you can break it down into smaller units and parts!

What seems impossible can be made possible when we take it one step at a time!

With a new seam ripper.

Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!

I admire your recognition of what's possible and what's not with Flash. I'm working to keep that perspective in many aspects of my life!
I loved the pictures of Forest Jane's students and their projects! I'm going to purchase a travel mug from the store now. Would she be comfortable sharing where she lives (just city and/or state)? It's wonderful to see people of all ages and backgrounds finding joy in sewing.

Each and every person had such a beautiful smile, really shows how much they enjoyed themselves! Warms my heart so much! Glad Tula is doing better and, wow, you got a lap cozy from her! Just shows how much she trusts and loves you! Bravo to you and your hubby for the great effort it takes to make it out to the inn when you're snowed in, I know mainly to take care of feral Flash. You are an animal hero for taking strays into your heart and for taking care of them as much as they'll let you. Stay warm and happy quilting! It's pretty cold here in Central Florida, we haven't had temps this cold since 1938 (at least that's what they say on the news). Should warm up a bit for the AQS Quilt show in Daytona Beach in a few weeks. Can't wait. Taking 3 classes this year!
