This is when happiness comes in a stuffed to the brim priority mail envelope - all the way from Alaska!
There MUST be another fully scrappy kind of string quilt happening soon because this fluffed up pile of color and variety is just begging to be sewn up into something.
As in - Do not pass go, do not get sorted and contained by color family, but sewn into something riotous with scrappy happiness.
I mean - check out this 1980s calico!
I remember buying this same print in a different colorway when I was first learning to quilt circa 1980-something.
As my sons would say "You mean, back in the 1900s, mom?"
Yep. What a journey. I still love this little print. It needs to be saved in a quilt of some sort.
After finishing the current Brookgreen project (I'm down to only needing 20 or so blocks....so I'll be putting that together fairly rapidly.) I need a string project full of color to brighten the darkest days of our upcoming winter.
I'll be thinking up some ideas. I can't wait to dive in.
But first...other things are on the arm-of-the-couch lists.
I was waiting for the "right" silver/grey thread that would show up enough against the off-white Essex linen I am using as background for my latest stitchery project.
I had gone as far as I could go - all that was missing was that RIGHT grey. Now let's just say that I have an abundance of WRONG greys that will likely find a place in other projects...and the correct one finally was found, a bit darker than I thought - but it can't fade out against the background.
It took a couple of evenings to stitch grey where grey goes...and then I was ready to do a washout of the overlay.
It all looked great!
Rinsing the Sulky Stick n Stitch out is the fun part.
Pretty soon it was all dissolved in the spray of the kitchen faucet.
OR SO I THOUGHT!!
I missed one little space that the red sewing thread ran through...ooops!
Last evening I sat, rethreaded my needle and took 10 minutes to free-hand the little thread guide thing and called it a day.
Now that I can compare these two close up photos of what was supposed to be there, and what I did from memory to replace it, I see it's not exact. Do I care? NOPE!
What's next? Borders of some sort.
And I'm thinking....do I want to go black/red as the colors of the embroidery suggest? Or go riotous with color as the piles of strings at the top of this post hint at?
I'm not sure. But I'll be playing with these ideas over the next little bit.
Today the Muddy Creek Misfits are arriving - there are some touch ups to do to make everything ready at the inn.
I've still got some deskwork ahead of me today as some email replies came in and I need to now get into the next step.
I also got in some quilt photography in the morning:
Yes, there will be a Gift-Away and I'll be drawing for 2 winners who will each receive a Lahinch PDF pattern from me and a fabric color roll from Cotton to Quilts.
It's a busy month, so the Gift-Away will wind up with winners being drawn on 10/27 so we can release mystery colors on 10/31!
I might look like a swan gliding effortlessly on the surface, but believe me - there is a whole lot of furious paddling going on beneath the surface.
What's up for your Wednesday?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Let go of things that prevent you from having the time for things that matter.
It sounds so much easier than it is, but it is worth it!
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

I have that same green 1980's calico in my scraps and I love it! It has gone in 2 scrap quilts already. It was a piece from my mom's stash after she passed and I only have about a 10" piece left, but I love the memories every time I see it. Can't wait to see what you do with your new pile of scraps. Thanks for sharing your journey and the memories!
It was the green on pale green Makower Petals that caught my eye. I loved that fabric and used it in so many places! It is great to revisit fabrics in string quilts.
What a happy mail package to receive! I think October is the perfect time to release Lahinch! I absolutely adore that one. Another day down for us, we are still waiting for that first full blast of cool air. We got a little rain, but it only stirred the dust up. Happy stitching!
