Runaway Friday!

It was a day of "Out And About" for everyone that decided to go - leaving only a few behind to hold down the fort.

I had a haircut at 11:30 - much needed!

Friend Martha and I ride share to haircuts - and as it goes when you live out this far, when you are "out and about" you do ALL the things.

And of course lunch!

While we were out running errands, we got a call that the well pump that Martha had ordered (And desperately needed) was in.  Would I mind if we went further afield and picked it up in Bristol?

We were already in Chilhowie which is more than half way there from home, so it was the commonsensical thing to do.

Meanwhile - Judy's Stitchers were on their own out and about to Galax to visit Quilts on Main and to also get lunch and shop around a while.

We LITERALLY got back to the retreat at the same time!

To make matters a bit more disconnected - I had left my phone on the charger in my office so I had nothing to take photos with.  It was, however kind of nice to be disconnected for a while.

Maximum project organization!

I love seeing other quilter's projects in progress - pieces laid out just so.  Aren't they pretty?

A;pmg wotj tje Jewel Box blocks - we've got a confluxion of holidays happening.

Cute cute cute!

This one is part of the Spooky & Sweet Mystery by Fat Quarter shop.

The Christmas Tree is from a Corey Yoder design called Cuddle Up Sampler.

Some more on the opposite design wall.

Adorable! I love the sheep!

Connie finished her Rivanna runner!

AND is ready for the binding on her rainbow Rivanna quilt!

I love all the cute things she has put in here.

The most fun part of all is in this video. Click to Play:

What are some of your must-haves while on quilt retreat?
Here are some answers for first-time retreaters from the Mississippi Quilters!

Can you think of anything else that isn't covered here?

Lola, refusing to give up the hoop so I could quilt last night.

Mabel Mae, showing me where I need to quilt next!

There are only 14 blocks left to quilt, so I am giving myself approximately 3 weeks to call it done.

But what will be in my hoop next?

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

It's the downside to human nature, and it sucks sometimes. ⁣
Keep following your bliss to your own happiness.⁣
Surround yourself with those who encourage and lift others.⁣
And be determined enough to do the same.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

When I go on retreat, I make sure I've got a variety of new needles for my sewing machine packed.

Thanks for sharing ideas of things to Not forget to bring to a Retreat. Fun to hear from the Quilters on Retreat. Your Evening quilting is looking good. I think laying it out when you move the Hoop is a good idea. Of course the Furbabies claim ownership sometimes. Keep on quilting! Today, I'm reading about some Quilt retreaters and Elm Creek friends. I love that my favorite quilty/historical book author wrote another Elm Creek Quilters book. It's a good read!

You can add the following to bring to retreat: extra rotary cutter blades, extra needles, container to collect the dull/nicked blades and no longer sharp needles, power cord and charger for phones/tablets, skinny mechanical pencil (for drawing those diagonal lines or other lines), iron cleaner/clean towel, thread snips, thread catcher (I love silicone cupcake cups), the rotating seat cushion (a must), hand stitch supplies, small shallow basket or other container (to herd your tools next to your machine).

And our group also has a designated ruler holder (wooden block with slits for the rulers) for personal rulers that get left at the cutting station. It helps to get them up from the table when they get inadvertently left there.

Plan to dress in layers because what is too warm for some is too cool for others, and visa versa. There is no one temp that is perfect for everyone. Bring a sweater, just in case. haha

Yesterday's hand quilting project is from the book 'Juniper and Mistletoe' by Barbara Brackman and Karla Menaugh. Peggy

I have a mini-repair kit of small screwdriver and cleaning brushes that I bring with me as I travel with my featherweight machine. If the retreat is longer than 3 days, I take a second sewing machine - just in case…

I laughed what I saw "A;pmg wotj tje". Things like that get written here when the cat decides to walk across the laptop keyboard. LOL

I would add extra machine needles to the "must have" list.

Enjoyed the “what to bring in retreat” video. Your clothes is something I would add! Went on retreat with a friend who packed all her sewing supplies and projects, loaded the car the night before, and left the bag with her clothes in it at home! Thank goodness there is always a Walmart nearby! 🤣

Wonderful little video. Sure miss Quiltcam, but understand the reasons why you are unable to do it.

I take a mini first aid kit when I travel. Never know when someone will need a band-aid, antibiotic cream, or bee string spray. I also carry a set of 4 different tweezers, and hemostats. You'd be amazed at how useful they can be. Glad to see Lola is as "helpful" as my kitty. Thanks for sharing.
